While watching their team on TV during lockdown, fans of Southampton and Arsenal may have noticed a peculiar word on the billboards around the pitch alongside the adverts for airlines and sportswear brands.

“HODL!” forms part of the advertising for Sportsbet.io, a company that this month signed a record-breaking deal with Southampton, paying £7.5 million a year for their logo to feature on the club’s shirts.

The online gambling firm that pays for these adverts accepts payment in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, something no UK-based bookmakers tend to do because the gambling regulator says it carries significant risks of money laundering and illegal activity.

I do think this might have been a big move , since sportsbet.io just paid a huge sum to have been advertised on the billboards and at the same time they did get a huge deal with Southampton.

Plus they are the main club partner !! Not some small logo on the sides or the back here have a look !

I do think this is a very great deal for any gambling Company to have achieved this much. Not only that the players are going to get exclusive content and also limited time deals which I do think is really cool!!! Things like free bets , free jersey it's just going to make this advertising campaign every bit of a success.

What are your thoughts on this ?

Now the article states 'english football hidden links to gambling' but not so hidden anymore is it ?? I do think this is a good move to boost the site's popularity and at the same time to give players of Sportsbet.io amazing deals and opportunities to play forth!

This is a great news. Advert on the billboards inside one of the famous league is a huge step. Many people who are not interested in cryptocurrency have a chance to learn it.

Yes, you are right, I am also a Southampton fan, for now they can be said to be a professional team in English football, I've seen them play The Dell.

They have won the FA Cup, I am sure England have chosen Southampton in the right place, the FA knockout system is the oldest football event in England at this time.

For that Sportsbet.io is currently doing: Arsenal + Southampton Prediction Contest (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5333152.0), maybe someone wants to take part in the Contest organized by Sportsbet, good luck.

Not only that but what I liked was that the company did not just advertise for them they also advertised for bitcoins as a whole. They wrote HODL on the side and that's so cool , we all know that bitcoins need a little bit of support at this moment.

I do believe that both the team and ofcourse company sportsbet.io were really successful this year and guess what ? Check on YouTube they have videos regarding crypto education with Southampton!!. That's honestly incredible to make a deal with such company that is indeed so positive towards cryptos. They could not have gotten a better deal.

Plus the gambling regulations in the English countries are honestly very good Therefore I do believe that the company can get more players also.

It looks like Southampton will get a very large disbursement of funds with this collaboration with Sportbet, because as far as I know Sportbet is one of the gambling companies that is supervised by the Coingaming Group company which is well-known as a gambling company that is spread almost all over the world, especially in 2020 and then Southampton has decided cooperation contracts with their old sponsors, and now many world football clubs have started to be sponsored by gambling companies that adopt crypto in their game betting, besides southampton sportbet.io has been previously put their company brand on the watford fc football club.

I am more excited about cryptocurrency in general than about sportsbet company. They are predominantly a cryptocurrency casino even though fiat is also accepted. So when they are associated with big names like this (not the only one though) cryptocurrency gets a lot of visibility to a new segment of crowd. This is indeed great in general for the crypto market because the chance of adoption goes up and people from a different segment of society get awareness of cryptocurrency.

Sportsbet.io have been sponsoring Southampton F.C for a while now and this is just a renewal of their current contract, but it certainly shows that this bitcoin bookmaker is going strong. The fact that Southampton made it to the semi-finals last week was probably what sealed this sponsorship extension, they got so close to the final and lost in a 1-0 game to Leicester. I saw that Sportsbet also launched a new free prediction game paying recently, which I'd only seen on the biggest mainstream bookmakers up until now, it's called 4-3-Free and lets you win a $50 or $10 free bet (paid in bitcoin) for predicting 3/4 correct answers. I have to wonder if Sportsbet will renew the sponsorship deal with Arsenal after their recent ESL antics caused lots of bad publicity.

I doubt winning the semis is what convinced them, i'm guessing that it's a business decision because I remember Steve mentioned it a while back that they're only allowed to have one main sponsor so they have to choose between Southampton and Watford as they're guaranteed for promotion.

With their new Arsenal FC roulette they'll renew it for sure.

Can't take it away from the fans of the Football club and at the same time the betting site, they are excited for this and yes you are right but we can't be killjoy about this.

I think it was also sportsbet.io that sponsored the same team for a Bitcoin logo to be printed on its players' sleeve.

Advertisement such as this would not only promote the site itself but also cryptocurrency especially Bitcoin. There will be millions who will watch this team playing. Not only the Southampton fans but also the rest of football fans will notice the branding which also carries with it the name of cryptocurrency.

I just hope some media doesn't correlate this to the teams having bad habits such as gambling when in the first place, it isn't a bad one. Bad players just make it look bad. Good job from Sportsbet though, hope that they manage this advertisement well so that cryptocasinos could open up to a bigger population, especially since a lot of people like to watch Football. I just hope other countries actually look at this very good example just so that other gambling companies could open up to their local teams as well.

when it's related to sports, it's not often depicted as gambling. getting a big name on the jersey and BTC logo to it is a big promotion. its not the first time it happened in sports, i remember there was an LTC logo on the canvass of the MMA fight i can't remember which one but i believe it happened before but it wasn't noticed much since crypto isn't wide popularized yet. sportsbet is a big company and can pay big ads. it wouldn't be surprising that one day they will also get a slot on ABC sports on TV.

You are definitely right. It also show that company (bitcoin) can compete with big usual companies.
They can't say now that bitcoin is something that you can't use in big business.

It is just sponsorship at the end of the day, as long as they have proper age restrictions and allow people with a problem to self-exclude, then it seems like one of the last big money spinners for these clubs. They provide a decent stream of income which helps fund players, build up the facilities and we should not restrict every little piece of fun in life. The vast majority of people will only give these adverts a quick glance and see it as a simple  entertainment of choice. I hear that Sportsbet will also be renewing their sponsoring of Watford F.C soon. It's better that they spend their money on these smaller teams and do more for sports like IPL.

On the other hand, there can still be negative effects when gambling platforms sponsors a certain team. If a gambling platform would involve themselves in just a specific team to advertise them, there can be instances that some people would think that that team can play depending on a backdeal -- meaning that games can be scripted or biased. I'm not such people who thinks that, yet it is still possible to happen. Nonetheless, sportsbet can still advertise with just ad banners on games or commercials right? - which I think is way better.

Wow :o I don't know if this is really good for the crypto community, but one thing I can confirm, this is the first time I have seen a casino become an official partner for a football team. It's really surprising!
Football team need tremendous economic potential to thrive, how can a casino go so far. Now I truly believe that real casinos can make a lot of money  :-*
Fairly, they only promote their name, it has no effect on the anonymity of the user, this is irrelevant. No one will ever know if you join a certain crypto casino and make money there, the government can't. Anyway, I believe Sportbet.io is making really bold decisions, hopefully it will help them develop further.

In my opinion, sportsbet.io online casinos have made a very successful publicity stunt by becoming the main partner of the English football team.

Football is a universal value.  Football is the king of all sports.  All men and many women love to watch football.  Teenagers play football in the yard of their house.  Football is a cult sports game.

The sportsbet.io casino has linked its brand to English football.  This will contribute to the popularity of this casino as well as other online casinos.

In addition, it will help popularize cryptocurrencies.

Football fans will become interested in Bitcoin and alternative cryptocurrencies.

Wow :o I don't know if this is really good for the crypto community, but one thing I can confirm, this is the first time I have seen a casino become an official partner for a football team. It's really surprising!

It has actually been happening for a long time already. As a matter of fact, in the Premier League alone, "eight of the 20 clubs are sponsored by betting firms - Burnley, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Leeds, Newcastle, Southampton, West Ham and Wolves." And in the "Championship, which is title sponsored by SkyBet, it’s 12 clubs."[1] That is why there was a recent controversy when it was proposed in the UK that sponsorship on football shirts would ban gambling companies.

Even with Sportsbet.io, it is not the first time either. It is not a surprise at all. Sportsbet.io is actually an official partner of "Southampton FC in the English Premier League, Watford FC in the Championship, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and Rosario Central in the Superliga Argentina."[2]

As a matter of fact, the news of the partnership of Sportsbet.io and Southampton FC is already a contract extension. They were already partners since last year. It's an old news. It was in August last year when The Saints welcomed Sportsbet.io as the main club partner.[3]

Yes, already sportsbet have partnered with Southampton Club during the premier league. With the sponsoring they might've got good results in terms of traffic to the website as well as increase in the users. Further to make things work better now the promotion is made in a much open manner than the previous time.

There's probably a significant effect to the business since the partnership was entered to last year. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been extended with another 3 years and allotted a huge sponsorship payment of £7.5 million. Other than that, Sportsbet.io is still maintaining its sponsorship with three other football clubs in three different leagues. There must have been a great amount of growth in the site's figures attributed to these football club sponsorships.

Cool! You provided really useful information. Even the OP doesn't know about this information, right? I thought it was the first time they signed, but with this contract extension it means Sportbet.io got what they wanted through contract. Well, I don't think it is wrong to accept sponsorship from casinos, as long as gambling is not prohibited in those countries.

It is a proud moment for a crypto gambling site to once again banner its name on the shirt of a known football club. This promotion is not just about sportsbet, it is also about cryptocurrency in general. This is a promotion that will definitely make Bitcoin more popular as the site is the primary betting site in the world which accepts Bitcoin.

And the high cost for this also explains how a crypto gambling site is indeed profitable. This will suggest to businessmen that getting into a cryptocurrency-based business may provide them nice returns.
