Title: Copper Membership
Post by: mevsmyself on May 01, 2021, 08:10:58 PM
Hello All,

I am new to the forum and have received my copper membership and am wearing it. My question is, when will I get the permissions of the membership?  I am trying to send private messages and get a message that I have exceeded my 2 a day allowance and need to purchase a copper membership.
In general the membership listed things will be automatic, but does anyone know how long it will take to get the privileges that come with it?

Thanks in advance!

You should have read this thread made by theymos about the copper membership and why theymos implemented it. I will quote it for you and read it. As you can see, the main purpose of thw copper membership is that the newbied are not like member rank which have the same capacity of signature space and can post images which a normal newbie can't post yet.

By popular demand, newbies can now pay to have some of their restrictions lifted. If you pay the fee, you become a Copper Member, and you can post images. That's the main point of this: allowing newbies to post images. Additionally (and these might change depending on how things go), Copper Members currently have these bonuses:

- Some of the same permissions as Member-rank members, such as reduced signature styling restrictions. (But none of the PM-related restrictions are currently lifted, such as the style limit or per-hour PM limit.)
- Your "you must wait ____ seconds between ___" counter is reduced by 75%. So if you're naturally of Newbie rank, you only have to wait 360-75% = 90 seconds.

If you paid an "evil IP" registration fee, then whatever you paid (in BTC terms) is subtracted from the upgrade fee. If you paid a registration fee a long time ago, you might even get a free Copper Membership due to the increase in BTC price. Just visit the link at the bottom of this post to check whether you have it already.

I am aware that for most people the benefits of this membership are pretty lame. This membership is only intended to fill a specific niche; if you don't need it, don't buy it. It is not intended to be the lower-cost Donator/VIP alternative which I've talked about before as a possibility.

I wrote the system so that I can easily add additional paid memberships in the future, but I might not ever do so. Not sure.

You can buy it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote

It should be instant but maybe there is a few hours wait or something. Check back after a few hours.

He should enjoy some benefit that a member rank enjoys so I think his demand makes sense. As far as I know copper membership also allow to send PM without much restriction.

To know more about copper membership, read these theymos posts to know the benefits: Know that PM restriction is not lifted.

Newbies can now pay a small fee to enable images (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2385104.msg24371150#msg24371150)
Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030366.0)

As far as I know copper membership also allow to send PM without much restriction.
Check the bolded part. The PM restriction is not lifted for copper members.

- Some of the same permissions as Member-rank members, such as reduced signature styling restrictions. (But none of the PM-related restrictions are currently lifted, such as the style limit or per-hour PM limit.)

My bad! I surely need specsavers 🤣

By the way all those days I thought that copper membership also lifts PM restriction and some other restrictions like enjoying signature space as much as a member rank user.

According to the post you quoted (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2385104.msg24371150#msg24371150), you are right. The PM restrictions shouldn't be lifted.

But theymos has stated something else in the topic below.
New PM limits (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2536728)

You are automatically whitelisted if you buy a copper membership (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote).

For a whitelisted user with activity of below 15, max PMs per hour and max PMs per day are 40 and 120 respectively.

The topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2385104.msg24371150#msg24371150) saying PM restrictions are not lifted has been made on November 10, 2017.
The topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2536728) saying the maximim limit of PMs is increased if whitelisted has been made on December 06, 2017 and should be the valid one.

theymos should edit one of these two topics? or I am missing something here?

I am missing something here?
I do not think you are. Buying copper membership gets one automatically whitelisted and thus lifts some of the restrictions on posting or sending personal messages.

Copper members are also exempt from the Newbie PM opt in (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2728840.msg27932988#msg27932988) option, so they are considered for a different rank when it comes to personal messages;
In response to the annoying PM spam, you now have to opt into receiving PMs from newbies. The option is in your PM preferences (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;sa=pmprefs). You also can't send PMs to newbies if you haven't opted in. Copper members are exempt, but only if you're wearing the copper membership.

@OP, the delay could be due to cache delays, try giving it a bit of time and trying again.
