Title: Trying to get started...
Post by: UsingMyName on May 11, 2021, 06:01:47 PM
Can I mine with a hd 6870 1GB? Setup start_miner.bat but when I run start_miner command window reports no GPU available for mining. included -list in start_miner and nothing shows up. Thanks for any help.

What is the name of the mining software you are using?

(Also note this may have little to nothing to do with bitcoin and might fit better in the altcoins boards)

PhoenixMiner...my bad, but open to others if that would be better-just want to mine something.  :-\ EDIT: Swapped in a 560ti 1gb and it says "CUDA Version  9.0 Cuda Runtime 8.0 Can't use Cuda device 0: compute cap. 2.1 )at least 3.0 required". This card a no-go too?

Radeon HD 6870 is an AMD card and doesn't support CUDA.

GTX 560Ti has compute cap 2.1 which is too low for PhoenixMiner. You need at least a GTX 680 or somewhere in that family.

Are you going to mine only with that plate?
If so, have you considered using the NiceHash service?

Analyze my report, about mining only with a GPU:

Yeah, all I have unfortunately. will check into nicehash.  Found kryptex but the withdrawal fee is outrageous- 3 months of mining just to make a withdrawal at this  cpu-only rate.

Trying nicehash, but it doesn't seem to work with most of what I am trying it on. even tried the nicehash os which fails. ugh! Kryptex works but to receive payment it would take almost 10 months of mining to cover the withdrawal fee.

But when you install Nicehash, you first have to let it run tests, for the program to check which is the best mining configuration.
Basically, it is creating an account, installing and hoping, that he does everything himself.

Why do you say that Nicehash is not working?

1. Ryzen 5 1600 1% load error after it attempts to benchmark but " processor failed to execute"
2. AMD A10 7300 CPU mines but GPU (APU) error
3. AMD phenom II error
4, 2GB 940m GPU not recognized. loaded nicehash with the 940m GPU

My friend with 6870 and gtx560ti you could mine 8-9 years ago. now there no point to waste your time for them. Try some cpu mining.coin is xmr just for fun

It's a waste of time, many mining softwares today have abandoned the old graphic cards with compute 2.0 and 2.1 and Nvidia cards with old Cuda 7.5 and 8.0, it's better to sell that GPU for those that still plays low end games on PC

You can not mine ethash algo with 1GB. Epoch 0 on ethash need 1024mb vram. And really no coin is in Epoch 0 and your card has only 1024mb vram, and some of this ram is needed for Windows.

Try mining XHV. But i think the reward is to low for this old card.

Don't make fun of old computer hardware. You can still sell it and get a small amount of money in return.
If you want to mine, then buy video cards and memory of 4 GB or more and buy those video cards and analogs that you can find on this site
