Title: Bitcoin Transaction Shows Two Outputs
Post by: amsjai on May 16, 2021, 03:28:57 AM
Hello,

I sent 0.008917 bitcoin (about $450 US) from my Bitcoin.com wallet to my Atomic Wallet. Only about $90 was received by my Atomic wallet. When I click on the bitcoin transaction, the blockchain shows two outputs. The other output is a random bitcoin wallet address that I've never seen. When I google it, some people say it has something to do with "change address". How do I get this bitcoin returned, or sent to the Atomic wallet as initially attempted?

Here is the transaction number:
c1fe9a5e07b0e1663fbaac996f31465b05109b29c4b7b004842de40cf4f7e0d5

Thanks,
Anthony

If it is your change address, then you shouldn't have only received 0.00185387BTC. The change address is used for the remainder after subtracting the value of the inputs with the amount sent and the fees. Is the balance in your Bitcoin.com wallet correct or is it missing the 0.00706326BTC as well?

Here is the transaction number:
c1fe9a5e07b0e1663fbaac996f31465b05109b29c4b7b004842de40cf4f7e0d5
The transaction is already confirmed: c1fe9a5e07b0e1663fbaac996f31465b05109b29c4b7b004842de40cf4f7e0d5 (https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/c1fe9a5e07b0e1663fbaac996f31465b05109b29c4b7b004842de40cf4f7e0d5)
There's no way for your to reverse it.

Now, if 1JMW9BuQrAPpvqRyBAcLE37ePQxaXsR7SJ is your "change address", the rest of the balance (0.00706326 BTC) should be added back your bitcoin.com wallet balance because the change address is used by your wallet to receive the excess amount of the transaction.

Only the smaller amount was transferred to the right wallet address. I have no idea what or where that other wallet address came from.

What is the balance showing as in your "bitcoin.com" wallet? ???

That address is most likely a "change" address that is controlled by your wallet... However, unfortunately, the bitcoin.com wallet (a truly terrible wallet, btw :-\) does not give you an easy way to "see" your change addresses.

One option would be to take the 12 word recovery phrase for your BTC wallet and import it into a wallet like Electrum (you need to use the "BIP39 seed" option in Electrum) and then check the addresses shown in Electrum. If you can see the "1JMW9B..." address listed as a "change" address, then you're fine... you can still access the coins.

Alternatively, you can just check the current balance in your bitcoin.com wallet... does it look like the full 0.008917 BTC amount was deducted from the balance BEFORE you sent the transaction? Or has your balance only reduced by 0.00185387 BTC? ???

Also, to learn more about "change", how and why it exists... you can refer here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Change

Thanks HCP...your suggestion worked great.

For those who may have the same problem, I followed the steps using this site:

I suggest you stop using blockchain.com. There are a ton of alternatives out there with better features and reliability. Check out the bitcoin.org website if you want to take a look.
