For the past few years I've organised betting pools for the English Premier League (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4479837.0) along with the Champions League (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4919683.msg44289685#msg44289685) and the World Cup (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4130568.msg38157956#msg38157956) and now I'm starting one for the upcoming European Championships which starts on the 11th of June and runs for a month until 11 July.

We will be using the www.superbru.com website again for both tournaments where you get 3 points for predicting an exact score, 1 point for a correct outcome (win/lose/draw) and 1.5 for a close prediction with correct outcome and the winner will be the person who gets the most points at the end of it. The fee to join will be around £25-35 in bitcoin but I will probably keep the fee to BTC0.001 which is currently £27.90. All the money paid into the pool will be split amongst the winner(s). Depending on how many people play will depend on how many places are paid out. If there's only around ten then it'll likely just be the first place, but if there's 20-30 users it will likely be top 5, and if we get 30-50 I may do top ten like we are currently doing for the Premier League pool. I won't be collecting the money in until about a week before the pool so don't worry if you can't make the payment straight away.

you can count me in, it will be an interesting competition, and I do not have a fan bias problem, since Serbia is not competing, Scotland beat us out from the EURO

hopefully, will be better than in other two competitions, where I am nearing the bottom in CL, and middle table mediocre in Premier league pool

Hopefully, but the Euros/World Cups don't seem to be as popular as the PL, and the pot won't be anywhere as big and that was a big draw for the current PL pool. I thought more people would have signed up already.

I think we had 20 players in last World Cup pool, so I don't see any reasons why we can't reach similar number for this torunament. So far there is few signups, but I miss several people who usually participate in almost all pools.

I was waiting for this opportunity. Do you know when next year's EPL pool will be opened too?

I guess the registration process will start in a few weeks, maybe even earlier ... if the new Premier League season starts on August 14th, (two months should be enough for everyone to join). In addition, for some reason it seems to me that hilarious&co will notify everyone about this, (everyone who joined the current and new pools under his leadership).

I'll probably do it this week sometime but won't be taking payments in until nearer the start. Just keep an eye on either Games and Rounds and/or the PL Discussion thread.

hilariousandco, this is not like EPL which lasts for several months, you will certainly have a shorter deadline and it may be better to define the access time to the pool as soon as possible. Also and there must be a shorter payment deadline. After the first three rounds, half of the teams will finish the competition and there it will be much less game to play.
someone will easily lose motivation after a few bad predictions. We don't want to have a pool with just a few active players.

By the way, can we arrange a small vote? I would prefer to increase the entry fee to at least 0.002 BTC.

It will be tough to push something like that trough. There is a lot of people that consider even current fee as too big.

If you want more action there is always a possibility of side bets and additional pool. I believe we had additional pool one year where 5 of us paid more and winner took all money. I am also having side bets with various participants in almost every pool.

I can put up another 0.002BTC to cover the difference for two participants who would otherwise be on the fence if it were to increase (so another 0.001BTCx2).

I am not sure about raising fees, also think that the best is to organize side pool with smaller number of participants with higher fee
IMO, it is better to have more participants, than higher fee and few participants

it is up to hilariousandco to decide, but even with smaller chances to win, it is more interesting to fight more participants in the pool

What does everyone think of potentially using the official UEFA predictor website?

They have two. One where you predict how the teams will finish in the group stage and progress through the tournament and then another that is like superbru but you get extra points for things like which team scores first and what player scores first:

You can try the first one out without singing up so check it out. We could do both and combine the points at the end of it for the overall winner. Or use the regular superbru and then the tournament predictor and combine the points. I'd like to combine them in some capacity as I think it makes it a bit more interesting.

I like the Superbru one simply because I participate in the Copa predictor as well and it will send me reminders for both. Usually I log on to Superbru regularly, I'd probably miss some of the games if we used another one.

Still, not a valid argument not to use a different one, especially since it provides a bit of extra competition as well. I like the goalscorers idea, but then we'd have to put predictions in only after seeing the lineups.

You can always pay later or just stick a little in a mobile wallet to send for the pool. I'd rather take everyone's money in at roughly the same time just in case the price suddenly fluctuates. I guess just keeping it to 0.001 is a nice enough number though. Can you hold on until tomorrow?

I haven’t been using my phone for about three years, so the installation of a mobile wallet is out of the question (besides, I don’t understand how exchange rate fluctuations can be related to given the fixed cost of the contribution in bitcoin). In addition, I can't tomorrow ... but I can do it later (I won't go into details, but I only have access to my wallet on weekends).

@hilariousandco, usually I participate in such tournaments on UEFA.com website, so I wouldn't be against using it for this pool. Though, I'm fine with Superbru too. Superbru advantage is that they send reminders if you forgot to leave pick. While UEFA.com predictor have some interesting things like underdog bonus or once per matchday you can use 2x booster which will double your points. Let's see what others think about it.
Yeah, they enable this prediction just 1 hour become the game, so, for lazy people it's not best thing because it gives some extra work for you before every game.

That is big no no for me than. There will be several matches per day and it is unrealistic that most of us would be able to fill out predictions one hour before the game.

Other than that, don't really care. I will play no matter what gets implemented but I have a feeling it is better to keep it simple and have max amount of participants.

What I meant is that you'd have better chance to guess correctly only after seeing the lineups. In that way it still seemed fine to me because most of the lineups are already known.

If it is the way you said (that it allows you to pick only after the lineups are out), I'd be against it too because that means that you have to remember to (and be able to) log on before every game and make your pick.

Still, even if we go that way I'm in. I'm playing this mostly for fun anyway.

from my point of view, Superbru is the best option, it requires some time to figure out exact scores, and you do not have to check when they enable something to put new scores, which is kind-a-hard thing, and requires you to be able to put your picks before each match, which is not realistic

nevertheless, I will probably take part whatever the platform is, although with UEFA it would be less fun and more job-to-do

For the league competitions like the EPL pool superbru works. But here I am all for the bracket one. In tournaments like this I think its way more fun. Something like the 'march madness' where the more your correct pick teams progress the more points you got.

If bitcoin fell or rose by 50% then the payment would likely change. I'll allow people to pay up to a week or so after the tournament starts but those who don't can just be removed.


Well there's games almost every day if not every day for the group stages so you're going to have to be on point, but I guess we can stick with superbru for the scores and combine it with the UEFA tournament predictor which only requires you to input it once and only takes a minute to fill out.

I would love superbru as the main way to post scores,I had a lot of fun in the EPL prediction pool so I am looking to find the same here.I have no problems even if we use others though.I will pay in Bitcoin at a maximum within 1 week after the tournaments starts.

It is always difficult to collect money after the competition started. There will be some with bad results who loose interest. In my experience it is better to collect money up front and leave a way for a couple of stragglers to pay on latter day.

I don't think you can create leagues there, but it gives you a link to share with your predictions and also an option to share them via an image and hopefully it updates with the points. It only takes only a minute or two or so to sign up and fill out but make sure you do them before the tournament starts as it won't let you change them after.

The UEFA match predictor (not the tournament predictor that everyone's posting here) is bugging me to fill in all my scores for match round 1. Does anyone know if all the matches in that round are going to lock at once when kickoff begins in a few hours or is it like Superbru's "lock as the matches begin" way?

I paid and filled out my picks on Superbru yesterday morning so thats all good, but I missed the deadline on the Uefa site (Thought only Superbru points counted and was to lazy to create account and fill out on Uefa right away, then later forgot about it).
From the Uefa FAQ: What happens if I miss the first matchday? If you start playing once the tournament kicks off, you can still save your predictions – you just won’t be able to score any points.

I guess just to add a bit more of a variance to the game and for any player to have somewhat more chances to win.I won Italy yesterday just like many of us I believe and today I had Switzerland to win which is a loss.
I cannot see the standings yet as I have yet to pay,but tomorrow night is the end of the wait for me as I will send my fee in and see how everyone is doing.It motivates me more to see others as well rather than playing alone as I am doing right now.

Christian Eriksen just collapsed on the pitch during the Denmark match. It's really not looking good. He was out for well over ten minutes and they were trying to restart his heart for most of it.


Well they're different competitions and I thought it would be nice to mix it up a bit. Predicting how the tournament will unfold is a lot different than just picking the scores. Just consider the UEFA one as bonus points.

Denmark vs Finland ended 0-1, and not a single person in the pool predicted Finland to win. Stuff happens  :(

A real bad start for me I have mistakenly put Italy to lose against Turkey yesterday 2-1 instead of them winning and Lukaku late goal made correct prediction fall.
And no one predicted Finland to win because its their first ever major competition they participate in.
Denmark almost losing Eriksen for good didn't help, the moral of players have been touched I hope we will get to see Eriksen back in the pitch soon after those horrifying couple of minutes.

I'm starting to get frustrated with Superbru as I had England vs Croatia 2-1 yesterday, but I changed it to 1-1 a few minutes ago, locked it to see what everyone else is picking (after making sure that the confirmation screen read 1-1) and now when I go to the leaderboards I see that my old 2-1 pick is still locked in there with no way to change it. I'm suspecting connection lag never actually updated the score on its servers.

I guess I'll just commit with 2-1 anyway now that I see that's what most of you are going along with, surprised to see how few people are backing a 1-1 draw. But please just be careful when changing your Superbru picks and make sure you give them ~10 minutes for them to save before you lock them.

Superbru is usually updating those changes instantly. You just have to get used to doing all that in the mornings. After last game of the day ends there is always rush of people to the site and it gets to the brink of breaking down.

That is especially bad on Sunday evening during regular season. When premier league, La liga and Serie A all finish their match days. No point in even trying then.

Finally I hit the first perfect score of the tournament,great feeling for me,exactly 1-0 for England and it ended just like that way.I am waiting Binance to release my frozen funds to send to hilariousandco tonight or a bit earlier.

Just had a little check on Superbru.

27 of us in the pool, nice. Makes it more interesting having 5 paid spots. I lose interest if i have no chance of winning money :D

So far only yesterday games were surprise results in the EURO,at least for me.The pool is going well in term of points,from 9th to 19th just 2 points of difference.Portugal had a difficult game tonight but they managed to score 3 goals in last 10 minutes or so.They were a bit lucky in the first goal which gave them the three points.I choose Germany for tonight but they are losing up to now with 25 minutes to go.Overall a good EURO so far.

I've never been so nervous for a first game in an Euro. The fact that I'm french and that I predicted 1-0 for France helped :). I didn't know if I should be happy or angry about the 2 goals refused for offside.

I am wondering, why we did not see the first revoked goal with the analysis, and why VAR was not consulted?
we watched in PL and Champions League where every millimetre was measured. it seems to me that the VAR in EURO is used much less than we are used to.

There are definitely some new rules implemented for VAR and referees in general. Lots of challenges are not deemed as fouls and it seems to me that referees got the order to let the play continue as much as possible. Handballs are not penalties any more unless you do something really stupid and obviously intentional. If Italy hasn't gotten a single penalty in that game against Turkey, there is slim chances to see much penalties at this tournament.

obviously, there will be less pressure to watch VAR. I didn't follow well where all the matches will be played, not all stadiums may have VAR capability. However, it is a European championship and some quality should exist.
I certainly think Mbappe's goal had to be checked, it is very possible that it is a regular goal. fortunately, it was not decisive for the result.

That should not be a problem. There are mobile VAR rooms built inside truck which UEFA already owns and uses on Champions Leagues matches when home team does not have their own.

Offcourse there is VAR in every game of EURO. It would be difficult to imagine different situation. I think all stadiums have VAR capability, after all, it's UEFA A category stadiums. But I read somewhere that in all games VAR referees are working from UEFA office in Switzerland.

I got Sweden correct score today yet I am extremely mad at myself because I had Croatia 1-1 all the time and then I changed to Croatia 2-0 just 5 minutes before the game started.I started reading some newspaper articles and saw everyone was predicting an easy win for Croatia so I changed based on those opinions.Lesson learned for me,only believe yourself.I am happy though for the performance of these two last days so far bringing me up 7 positions from 21 to 14th so far.I have England 2-0 but I think they will win a narrow one at 1-0 in this game based on what I saw in the first half.

How reliable is Superbru’s score counting? They haven’t given me my slam point for 6-7 correct outcomes in round 3.

I looked at the pool & others with 6 correct outcomes in round 3 so far have 1 slam point but I don’t & I have SEVEN correct outcomes so far.

I’ve emailed them any way, see what happens.

1 point could be the difference between a paid finish & not.

For example below is hayhay in round 3. He has six correct outcomes but has his 1 slam point. I don’t but I have SEVEN correct outcomes. The game rules stipulate 6-7 correct outcomes = 1 slam point.

yeah I think that since we are about to the middle of the competition the ones didn't pay yet should get their payments sent ASAP, not making accusations but they can exploit what they achieved in these first rounds,
If they are close to the top then they would pay the entee fee.
If they are far from making a comeback they would just say  they cannot pay the entry fee.

He said by Monday so since it's Wednesday the deadline for new entries has technically passed. It's too late for them to get first place anyway.

I never change the outcomes of the games, I did it this week on Ukraine-Austria game and lost 15, points that would get me into 3rd spot. Never doing that again.

Glad it got sorted out and good luck getting that slam point tonight. I like Superbru and have no beef with the page except for lagging after the games finish. I just started using it exclusively in the morning to avoid hassle.

Very tight at the top of our pool this year. Few good results and anybody can get to paid positions. Position 1-10 are divided with less than 5 points.

Ok. So here are the prizes:

1st: 0.02
2nd: 0.015
3rd: 0.01
4th: 0.005
5th: Anything that is left over after fees

Bonus: 0.005 prize for the winner of the UEFA tournament predictor. Only the people who submitted theirs before the tournament started will be eligible for this. If it's showing that you have zero points then you didn't make it in time (or you're just really crappy at predictions  :D).

Hey guys, friendly reminder - Superbru is working with the result after 120 minutes (extra time included) in knockout stages. So be extra careful when picking draws. Pick them only if you expect match to finish on penalties. This is a bit different then all bookies so I am sure some of you did not expect it :)

Yes,Superbru indicated that right before the elimination stages were to begin.Yesterday I had Italy 2-0 and it is a close result because after extra time it ended 2-1.In a normal condition I would have gotten 0 points but thanks to this new rule I won 1.5 points.As Trofo said we have to be very careful with this one because it can screw you up or it can boost your points based on what happens in the extra time for games that end in a draw during regular time.

In case people are tied on points at the end we will issue prizes on how superbru officially orders them as they have a system for working it out. There's more likely to be people with the same points given it's a relatively short pool so if anyone is tied on the UEFA one we will go with whoever got the winner right. If that's also tied then it will be whoever got the most semi finalists correct and so on.

I think it is impossible for me to win the UEFA predictor although I am the only one to have Italy as winner of the competition.The fight in the Superbru is really intense with just three points dividing 5th place up to 11th place where I am right now.With just three games to go anything can happen but I think I will not be able to make it in the top 5 nor win the Uefa predictor,anyway I am very happy with my second pool and I have done better here than in the Premier League.Looking forward for the next Premier League pool which I think I will join again.

Well if anyone is 9 points or more away from the top 5 then it's impossible and even then you would need to get three correct scores and hope the people above you got next to zero. It's a shame superbru doesn't go by the 90 minutes result as it's very difficult to hold onto the draw right through extra time. Lost a couple of games that have been draws at full time only to lose them in the added time. It's almost not worth backing the draws due to this. I think tonight's game should be close but maybe Italy will edge it. I can see it going into extra time though.

I was top 3 before the knockouts, felt confident I'd be able to defend the position, but the Superbru format for these games doesn't really suit me.

A lot of games ended as draws in regular time but it is simply a bad option to go for them because Superbru calculates the score after ET so I missed a lot of games I would have guessed correctly in the 90 minutes.

PL starting soon, that's my favorite one anyway.

It's really good feeling to win, it's first time when I won 1st place in prediction pool (hope not last  8)). Scotland - Czech Republic match was game-changer for me when I'm only got exact prediction. Since then I haven't dropped below 2nd place and I got feeling that I can win something. I didn't had many exact predictions, but I was quite consistent getting 1.5-1 point. Congrats to everyone who got prize spots!
Short summary of tournament - after all, I think Italy was most deserving deam to win. This tournament will be remembered because of so many own goals and missed penalties. Also, it was so good to see almost full stadiums of spectators.

This was the first pool I ever played and even though my results was absolutely terrible I had a fun time and nice experience.
With some experience under my belt I am ready for the PL pool and hopefully my results will improve in that one too.

It  seems a bit unfair I only missed the opening gameweek for the Euro between Italy and Turkey but no point didn't register in the prediction for the other groups I had 16 correct predictions in groups stages if you scrap the 2 correct one from the first group stage for missing the first game I would have been left with 14correct predictions.
And I had 21 points from the elimination stages.
So 14*3+ 21 = 63 points.
Also joining late I was in a rush when I made the first prediction on Superbru Italy-Turkey I thought I had 2-1 for italy but I had a intentional mistake and put 2-1 for Turkey. Lost precious 1 point if I didn't make that mistake I would had 52.5points like the other guys.

For the next EPL pool I will make sure to get in early.
