Title: Exchanges went down
Post by: GreatArkansas on May 20, 2021, 03:49:47 AM
As we all know in the recent dump of the cryptocurrency market, we saw a lot of exchanges went down or offline in a short period of time at the time of the dumps.
For example are popular exchanges with got huge trading volumes like Binance, Coinbase, and other exchanges.

Is this really a normal thing? Or maybe some insider like exchanges will first the ones who will buy those dips or sells the top before its users?
It is totally 100% server issue on exchanges or there could be some manipulation that happened during these times?

Unless someone from inside reveal the secret (if there is any), we will never know but from normal look it seems excessive traffic cause the issue. I am not much into panic trading or don't hold much crypto in exchanges so never had this experience since I do not visit the exchanges all the time.

The exchanges need very high-end dedicated servers I guess which I am not sure why they don't have it. Facebook, Google kind of service goes down once in a moon.

If you are oriented towards conspiracy theories, you'll always find some.
Imho it's only server issue. The software and hardware is not designed for such huge traffic and they don't invest in it just because of a couple of such days.
Just imagine:
who to buy from if the users cannot place sell orders?
who to sell to if the users cannot place buy orders?
and more important: don't you think that the trade fees in this kind of days would be huge, probably bigger than playing inside games, (and with 0 risk) if the platform would work properly?
