Title: Transferring from wallet to vault on Coinbase..
Post by: Dr.Ona on May 25, 2021, 01:01:53 AM
Hello,
Coinbase help is one of the worst ever... so I have a question I'm hoping members here will have an answer.

I currently have a Coinbase account and only use the wallet feature.
If I set up the Vault feature, is there a fee for moving my small amount of BTC from my wallet to my vault?
Example..
I transfer $100 for BTC from Coinbase wallet to Coinbase vault.
Is there a fee for that?

Thanks for the info... couldn't find that info anywhere and I'm sure there are members here that know.

Is there a fee for using vault storage?

None at all. Coinbase vaults are free to use, just like your wallet.

The only fee you're going to pay is the transaction fee from the external wallet/exchange, to Coinbase Vault (assuming the funds aren't going to come from Coinbase).

Also, I suggest taking a look at this: https://NotYourKeys.org

In addition to all the usual reasons you shouldn't store your bitcoin long term with a third party (hacks, scams, insolvency, shut downs, frozen accounts, loss of keys, governments restricting access, privacy concerns, the list is endless), with Coinbase Vaults there is yet another reason to add to the list.

Coinbase ran a multisig vault service for a few years, until they shut down that particular service. There was a user on here a few months ago looking for help on how to access coins he was storing in a vault when they shut it down. As far as I am aware, he never managed to regain access to those coins. You can read the thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5316286.0

There is nothing to say that Coinbase won't do the same again in the future and discontinue this service.

~snip~

Take note of what o_e_l_e_o said above and take note about the email because they need two emails.

Quote from:
Users can also choose to split ownership between multiple users and email accounts, requiring these users to approve of a transaction before it can be completed.

Most of the complaints here on the forum they forgot the 2nd email and can't able to withdraw their funds from Vault without the confirmation from 2nd email. So make sure that you have access to both two emails for future withdrawal. If you don't have a 2nd email there is no way to recover them based on what Coinbase support said.
