Title: No One Can Shut Down Bitcoin
Post by: ConnerDalfino on May 28, 2021, 08:52:22 AM
Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao said it’s impossible for a single entity to kill bitcoin and its underlying blockchain technology. “I don’t think anyone can shut it down now, given that this technology, this concept, is in 500 million people's heads,” he added. Binance is the biggest cryptocurrency exchange by volume.

Theoretically, this is true, but governments and regulatory bodies can severely restrict access to and redemption of bitcoin. While the network will always be accessible through an internet connection, and Bitcoin will always have value, it is another issue if BTC use and custody are heavily regulated or outlawed due to Governmental fear of losing their monopoly on the money supply.

Your opinion?

Pretty much. They can outlaw it, but they can't ban it.

And yes, a country's government making the ownership of bitcoin illegal would definitely be unfortunate, but let's be honest here: how successful are governments going to be in banning digital things? They can't even ban digital piracy and drug usage, what more with a freakin decentralized asset?

It's not impossible but it would take a coordinated effort from governments and companies of different countries to attack/control the network then completely shut it down. It looks impossible because I doubt that anyone would spend billions/trillions/quadrillions of dollars for this. Why would they when they can easily benefit from it through regulations (taxes)?.

Again, bitcoin is decentralized, so how entities are going to bring it down. There could be coordinated attacks from governments, but i highly doubt that they will do it. What will be their point to bringing it down? There could be one compelling reason for them to collude with each other, ban mining, trading and everything about crypto. But so far countries are still divided with regards to crypto and bitcoin and we have more crypto friendly nation on our side.

They tried to scare us off it, but they couldn't. Now it's unstoppable. They obviously can't do much about it anymore, so they're coming up with various excuaes to try scaring us off it again. Energy consumption, terrorism funding, illicit activity in general, money laundering.. these aren't real reasons but just excuses, and a fair amount of people do take the bait!

If the governments of the whole world can come together to ban it, they will be successful, but the governments of the world can not have the same say over cryptocurrencies, which is the reason bitcoin can not be banned. As one country will ban cryptocurrencies, the other countries will not ban but support cryptocurrencies as an opportunity. Also as some countries ban cryptocurrencies, some will later decide to legacy it back. Cryptocurrencies are difficult to ban which makes bitcoin hard to ban, in fact, bitcoin in this sense can not be banned.

There are studies with reputative researchers that it is nearly impossible to shutdown bitcoin unless the community shut their nodes and I remember that space X has bitcoin node on one of their satelite. No institutions or government can shut bitcoin down. Only the community can kill bitcoin, still impossible IMO.

There isn't anything to be shut down. That's why you can't shut down Bitcoin. Because it's a network of computers running a certain protocol. Shutting down Bitcoin is as wrong as saying that someone can shut down emailing.

It's not impossible but it would take a coordinated effort from governments and companies of different countries to attack/control the network then completely shut it down.
You shouldn't forget that if a government wants to shut it down, then another one may find the chance to protect it! It's beneficial to protect what others want shut down. Governments know the importance of Bitcoin and I'm pretty sure that they'll sooner or later play by the rules. They can illegalize its use temporally, but in the long term, they'll have to accept their “defeat” upon this. So no. I don't believe that every government will agree with each other for any purpose, not just for Bitcoin.

We have been talking about this for a very long time and yeah, there is nobody who can simply shut down Bitcoin. Things don't work that way. As you indicated, governments can only restrict the usage of cryptocurrencies. But they cannot stand in their way.

Actually there is, that would probably be the Internet consortium that has seven members that are spread around the world and they have the rings that is going to access a backdoor for Internet that they use to have a maintenance for the Internet to keep it running for 3 more months so yeah there is an entity that can shut down bitcoin.

While I consider the statement of him true to a lot of extent, but as much as crypto concept has been in people's head, so did increase the government's eyes on it and I'm sure the government of different countries have frequent group talks about how to eradicate or fight against crypto/Bitcoin because this surely harms their monopoly and control a lot. So, in the near future am sure they will use everyway possible to tackle and the outcome is very hard to predicate.

While the network will always be accessible through an internet connection
Nobody can directly shutdown Bitcoin, but they sure can for sure shutdown internet for some time and that could greatly affect how Bitcoin network is working and it would create big changes in hashrate.
Before I was thinking this is impossible to happen but I see that some crazy people like Claus Schwab (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtBGjr0X9nk) from World Economic Forum are preparing for this scenario and they are training and preparing for this.
They are calling this event cyber pandemic (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0oZA1B3ooI) or cyber polygon (https://cyberpolygon.com/) and they claim it will have much bigger effect than corona pandemic.
Russian hackers could be blamed again, like we saw with Colonial Pipeline, and I even saw that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was part of this cyberpolygon show in 2020.
Purpose for this would be to have full control over internet (only place to  find some free information) and I think this can have big impact on Bitcoin and everything else.

Different nations have different laws and regulations. The world is complex enough to find a consensus for all nations to ban Bitcoin mining. The entities they can ban are Bitcoin mining farms, not individual miners.

With the growth of Bitcoin, and if People's Republic of China (PRC) ban all Bitcoin mining and ASIC production, other nations will open the gate for it. What governments want are taxes from their people. Bitcoin mining and ASIC production can bring them money.

Have you ever thought PRC will ban all Bitcoin mining and ASIC production? They will be mad if they implement such policy.

I'm agree. Some countries can ban it but if you want you'll find a way to buy it. They can't just destroy the blockchain.

It needs coordinated attack before we can see this happening but the question is do they really want to ban bitcoins completely? I think no because this is billion or maybe we can call it now a trillion dollar industry and for sure they cannot erase the one who can give them a possible dollar income, although we can say that government that but those big entities who's joining the cryptocurrency for sure their influence will play a big role here.

Maybe some countries can shut down bitcoin in their own way of law like disabling cryptocurrencies in their government. But to kill bitcoin it is imposible to do it, bitcoin now is like immortal and keeps changing peoples lives day by day with its overwhelming value. That is why many countries do not want cashless society and being ignorant about cryptocurrencies.

While the network will always be accessible through an internet connection,
Even though they will cut down the internet connection worldwide (which is also impossible), we can still access Bitcoin without an internet provider/connection we had always alternative for that.  We can still send Bitcoin through Radio and Circumvent network censorship.

Even SEC commissioner Hester Peirce on the Tweet (https://twitter.com/MWietersheim/status/1381184035469283331) admitted that government banning Bitcoin is a "foolish thing".  How the government can seize the code on the internet that anyone can access pseudonymously?

However, they can regulate those exchanges under their jurisdiction to have slow adoption on Bitcoin but it doesn't it will stop using Bitcoin, there are too many alternative ways that you can buy and sell Bitcoin online.

Quantum computing posed a threat on cryptocurrency way back in 2018 article that I've read if I'm not mistakes because it could control the Blockchain technology and the Private keys are at risks as well, but recent article that was published by forbes last December 2020 says that it will be no longer made that way, and to ensure Bitcoin and cryptocurrency safety, they will make a soft fork on Bitcoin  to ensure private keys from post quantum encryption (https://www.forbes.com/sites/rogerhuang/2020/12/21/heres-why-quantum-computing-will-not-break-cryptocurrencies/?sh=258692f7167b).

Very well said. I don't think governments will be successful if in case they decided to totally ban the usage of bitcoin. They have also other pressing matters to ban instead of focusing their resources to ban bitcoin. Because with this technology, I don't think they can attain success of totally prohibiting the use of it. As long as people have access of internet, they can basically do what needs to be done in terms of crypto transactions.

shutting down the  internet will also affect  the entire financial system since everything today is dependent to the internet. thats not the option they see. regulating the miners seem to be the path they take. its the only way they can make sure because the physical aspect of mining gears/farms can be seized. if they can successfully do this. BTC might not be desirable to new investors.

still shutting down BTC will be impossible.

Bitcoin  will continue existing no matter which restrictions are imposed, but the community and the price can change very seriously if a big (in terms of global economy) country made using it a criminal offense, for instance. However, many influential countries are democratic, so something like this wouldn't go through or would be protested against later. China is a big exception and can clearly do a lot of damage, but even they don't seem to be working towards a complete ban, and even such a big country as China cannot cause irreparable damage to the Bitcoin market, I think.

This is correct, but it's not the whole story. If Bitcoin was properly banned by major governments (the US, EU, China, Japan), it would have a tiny fraction of today's adoption, and today's adoption is already very low. Very few merchants would want to accept illegal money if they don't do illegal business, generally it only happens in countries with hyperinflation or other economic problems. So, let's not get cocky here, Bitcoin ban is a serious threat. And from a point of view of investing, it can easily wipe 90%+ of its value.

Restriction is different from ban, government have been trying so hard to ban btc and they couldn't so they have resulted to restricting citizens from accessing btc, even so they are not very successful  in this attempt, cz is right, it is not possible to a single or more than one entity to shut btc down completely, and that is the power btc have over other assets.

It is true that it is impossible to shut down Bitcoin.  They can make it illegal but they can never make it cease to exist.  Being decentralized is the strongest point of Bitcoin to make it impossible for the government to shut it down let alone control it.  Just like how they fail to censor file sharing on the internet.

It is difficult to turn off bitcoin, because many people who adopt bitcoin, even from the middle to upper class, already know about bitcoin, bitcoin has been developing for about 12 years, so stopping bitcoin that has been operating for 12 years is a bit difficult. .

Even if it will be regulated by any "regulatory bodies" that you're mentioning, the network itself is unstoppable.
VPN still exists these days and people can still browse anonymously with the use of Tor browser which are used by others also to explore the deep web.
P2P transactions are there as well. :)

For such a heavily decentralised market there is not much any government can do, whatever they do they can't stop people from using it now that they got a taste of the financial freedom they can get, and to be fair the crypto market is a trustless market where anybody can access so why go back to traditional?

No need for middlemen, exclusions etc. So even if some governments ban BTC or other cryptos there will still be places that welcome it. At this point it is fair to say that unless something catastrophic happens nobody can stop crypto.

Bitcoin started more as an enemy of governments rather than a promising alternative technology. Attempts were actually made to shut down Bitcoin, but then there is nothing governments can do about it. They are classifying Bitcoin as an underground currency preferred by criminals and drug dealers. At the end of the day, their motives did not prevail.

Today, Bitcoin is more acknowledged by many countries rather than banned. The threat of shutting down Bitcoin today is getting weaker and weaker.

Bitcoin is a decentralized asset that always make the government think hard to manage it in such a way. The government can prohibit bitcoin from being traded and can also prohibit people from using bitcoin as a mean of payment only if it doesn't benefit them at all. But on the other hand, government can also benefit from bitcoin (income tax) only if they regulate it without having to ban it. But I think we should worry too much about the future of bitcoin because as long as it's a win to win situation, the government will also try its best to take advantage of it. Bitcoin has provided benefit to all parties including the government.

bitcoins cannot be stopped as long as the internet still exists, bitcoins may be restricted, but there is always a way to access them and there are always bitcoin enthusiasts. Bitcoin is also one of the technologies worth looking at, slowly but surely the government is reviewing bitcoin, and finding a way for them to control it, have you heard of coins made by the government? I'm sure you've heard of it.

About accessible, even porn which get blocked in several countries, their people still can access it. I think as long they not shut down big bitcoin exchanges, we should not worry about that. Because what can government do is make strict law about exchanges which need their permission to open, but people still can access bitcoin wallet, etc.

The world have known bitcoin for so long and we've all seen it went through the toughest challenges but take a look at bitcoin, it is still dominating the market ever since. Bitcoin's blockchain technology has been very firm due to the foundations it was able to build all throughout the years. Even on Elon Musk's case, no matter how hard he try or no matter how many money he makes each year, he will never be able to shut down bitcoin. As time passes by, it will only keep on growing stronger so let us hold on to our investments because the only way bitcoin is going to is upwards no matter how many time it stumbles.

Those who have minimum knowledge about decentralization or blockchain technology, they know it's impossible to stop Bitcoin anymore. It's not possible to stop by any government or centralized organization, because we don't need them to operate the Bitcoin blockchain. How anyone can stop? For example, if you are holding a million-dollar worth Bitcoin then you will start mining in case all manners decide to stop mining. So just imagine how many big holders in Bitcoin and will resume mining node. They won't dump themselves. So it's quite impossible to stop Bitcoin anyone since it's impossible to trace who is mining currently.

They can do all those bans and prohibitions but that wont really be enough on getting rid with bitcoin since when it comes to accessibility then it cant really be stopped.
They can really give out influence when it comes to legal matter for those platforms whom do attached to it but remember we do have dex and p2p transactions
that cant still be done without any intervention into any platforms which simply shows that it cant really be controlled nor can be handled out
even how powerful or influential you are and this is what the community do see on it which did really get big support.

When was the last time you saw the governments of the world cooperate to fight something together? Even if we were attacked by an enemy from space they wouldn't be able to work together. I bet some countries would like to make a deal with the invaders while others would be fighting it.

For the people outside bitcoin, what banning means to them is just like banning it entirely on their jurisdictions. But they don't understand that there is no one that can stop its continuous mining operations from different parts of the world and its own blockchain will continue no matter how many mining farms they crack down and ban it solely, they can't shut down the whole network for bitcoin.

The government already tried its best to shut down bitcoin but they cannot do it, they are always fo something to take over decentralization because they know how good it is and they can't do something to benefit from it and the government hates that thing. Bitcoin is now unstoppable and I don't think that there is one thing that can shut it down unless we lose internet connection worldwide.
The best example here is China, how many times they had said that they ban bitcoin but until now, many people have their own bitcoin.

That's right, bitcoin is unstoppable and no one will stop it because it is decentralized and millions of people were holding bitcoin in different codes digitally. So it is impossible for them to shut down bitcoin.

I'm thinking what if they will also enforce to ban the bitcoin mining all over the world. We will become no miners, how bitcoin transaction will work in that way.

I agree that the switch that "turns off" bitcoin does not exist and there is no point in it. It is much easier to create trouble and drop the price of something to discourage many from wanting to do business with him. However, it is impossible to completely destroy this "genie" who has long escaped from the jug and lives its own life. By expelling him from one region of the world, you simply move him to another, this is all that the governments that are fighting against him can count on.

He's 100% right, Bitcoin can't be destroyed. Paradoxically, local restrictions in different countries may even lead to the increased price, because the hodlers won't be able to sell.
Also, people will always have access to Bitcoin through darknet or make transactions using hardware wallets. The only thing the govs can actually affect is exchanges, so this limits the ability to withdraw. I think such bans will lead to the emergence and spread of underground exchanges. Bitcoin will live!

^ I have heard many countries had been banning BTC but until people there can still access BTC or even have a trading activity on cryptocurrency.
Most of them are in Islamic countries or something in the middle east country. So until when they are banning BTC? Until they come at the point looking for a way how to shut it down, there is no way to shut it down BTC and no one will do that. Governments are always doing that but still, BTC will always exist. Why they are afraid of this technology, this is even don't have a threat to the whole financial system. Instead, accepting the innovation of technology through BTC is a great idea.

Government had long time ago trying out to ban bitcoin and now that its already getting some recognition and adoption is on the rise which makes them more worry.

Some had banned it and some had tend to accept or adopt it just because they cant do anything about it even if they do try to get rid of it. Banning wont be enough

because it would continue to exists as long the community would mainly support it then there's no way that bitcoin could die or being shut down.

This has been known from the very beginning, governments can outlaw whatever they want and this of course includes bitcoin, but when the will of the people opposes the ban then they will have no other option but to take a step back and allow it, and we have many examples of this, alcohol was banned on the US but the demand for it was so huge and it enriched the mafia so much the US government did not had any option but to concede and make it legal again, the same is happening with cannabis and if they are dumb enough to do this to bitcoin the same will happen as the demand of bitcoin will do nothing more than to increase due to the outrageous amount of money governments are printing to pay for the costs of the pandemic.

So far what I have seen is the same pattern. They are the same countries that create bitcoin FUDs. It is no coincidence that just when the bullish race for bitcoin occurs, the bans begin, it is logical to think that governments and central banks observe people's interest in bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

It is a reality for all of us we are stopping using banking services because we prefer to invest in the crypto space.
For all that we have experienced, bitcoin will prevail forever, otherwise governments would be taking the freedom that we have won in the past and for which we hold on to bitcoin.

Exactly, no need to be worried about it. Although BTC has crashed the price into a very dip price, there are still others who will help Bitcoin to rise up. It is a matter of time and also market condition.

Actually, if all power and institution worldwide work together, Bitcoin can really day. In the condition of:
- Whales make dump sell of BTC at a very low rate
- Spreading FUD every day
- Government rules and regulations who are more strick,
- Many more bans

But, of course, they will not be willing to do this, and for what? That is why I also do believe that no one can shutdown BTC

Title: Re: No One Can Shut Down Bitcoin

The pros and cons of bitcoin will of course always be there. when the price of bitcoin is high enough and beats all digital assets, of course FUD will be scattered a lot, this will make bitcoin prices crash and the goal of making FUD is to make bitcoin fall again.
but to turn off bitcoin nothing will be able for now. Bitcoin is still the most valuable digital asset today. Even though bitcoin regulations in some countries are still illegal bitcoin still persists.
A real example is China which recently made bitcoin prices drop, because China expelled all bitcoin miners out of the country.
Bitcoin will survive as long as this community remains. Bitcoin will not be extinct, Bitcoin is a future technology that will be very promising.

Can the government shutdown or ban it? Nope they can't. To ban bitcoin they will have to ban everyone in their country. Like literally every people. Because all people together make the decentralized network. It would have been easier for the government to ban bitcoin if it was a centralized coin. All they had to do was to ban the central authority that would have controlled the network. But yeah, the government can indirectly ban the usage of crypto currencies or bitcoin through imposing very strict policies.

Turning off bitcoin is the same as turning off electricity and the internet network which is very influential to be able to use bitcoin and if both do not exist then bitcoin will not exist.
and bitcoin has spread throughout the world and cannot be stopped, Bitcoin is like the sky net in the Terminator movie, meaning Bitcoin transactions will not disappear as long as there is the internet.
So far only a few countries have tried to kill bitcoin and so far no one has been able to prove it, and can only ban but not kill it.

We only have to look at the countless examples of people in countries where Bitcoin is banned to see people continue using it. Or we could simply look to the decentralized P2P file-sharing network, BitTorrent, which continues to thrive despite it being illegal in many places. The other factor is there'd need to be a global, unified ban, which is unlikely, so there will always be regulatory/geographical arbitrage. Bitcoin the network and protocol are near impossible to stop.

agree, that as many countries continue to recognize bitcoin, at least there is recognition given that bitcoin is very important. because all cannot avoid technological advances that are constantly being updated, including being able to receive bitcoins in every transaction that may be needed. Bitcoin is certainly synonymous with technological advances and it is real and irrefutable.

Indeed, there are still some who have not accepted bitcoin as a legal medium of exchange because some things may still be an obstacle, because of the nature of bitcoin, no one controls and moves it. so that it will be difficult to predict if it is not given strict regulations, so that there will be no abuse which is still often feared by some countries. many countries are afraid because it is often used as a money laundering proceeds from corruption and drug trafficking.
where precisely the state must fight against it, so it must be patient in matters like this.

but very confident that in time there will be acknowledgment and at least can work to cover up the shortcomings, which fiat cannot do and bitcoin is there to be able to do that.

Yes, there is no way to shut down Bitcoin except shutting down the whole internet.  ;D  But it is an impossible thing to do of course. We always indicate that cryptocurrencies are not under anyone's control. Governments or people can manipulate the price, ban them, regulate them etc. . But when it comes to erasing them, they have nothing to do about it.

True that Bitcoin can't be shut down but its enemies are finding any possible way to make it less and less popular and usable. Technologically speaking I believe bitcoin is unbreakable given the current conditions while the only troubles can be find in the mining cartels (but they earn money from it so they were never be able to create fuss) and regulatory bodies which could use fear to make people afraid of BTC.

It is possible to shut down bitcoin if there will also an electricity collapsed and disabled all internet networks, but impossible for the big companies to do this because we are in a new generation using modern technology. Our life is not the same 100-300 years ago, where there is no internet and computers. If you can see, there's a lot of bad news about bitcoin everywhere, FUD, Government rules and regulations, banning of bitcoins in other countries, restrictions to use it, everything which can cause negative effect in bitcoin spread everywhere, but bitcoin is still alive with huge demand and the adoption of it keep on increasing. That is how strong bitcoin is.
If such a scenario happened then we will have a lot more problems than bitcoin not existing anymore, without the electric grid it will be impossible to maintain the number of people living on this earth so governments cannot really shut it down out of their own volition, so there are only two options there was some kind of human-made attack that disabled the electric grid or there was some kind of global disaster that did so, but except for scenarios like that bitcoin is basically unstoppable so there is no reason to worry about a ban or anything like that.

Why do the community need the CEO of Binance to say this before they believe. If you didn't know this until it came out of the mount of CZ then you don't understand the industry you're into. Nobody can stop a decentralized system expect the people abandon it. We own the power here and not the elite, their fud can't do much in the long term so they better enjoy it while they can.

If you notice unlike previously the fud this days aren't of much impact on the community. The market declines though but majority of that is due to the previous run and profits are been secured (that's a healthy market correction) and a buying opportunity which is why a rebound occurs almost instantaneous or within a short period of time.

I agree with him. The government has no authority over BTC so it's impossible for them to fully stop BTC from existing and even if they have the power to do that, it should be done before. Moreover, they could restrict the access of people on BTC but it's not enough to take down a decentralized network which runs for over a decade already.

Using math to create large numbers? Cryptography in general? The internet? Computers? Btw I can mine bitcoin with pencil and paper. Will they ban pencil and paper? I can use drums to transmit binary code. Will they ban drums? I can also shout. Will they ban my voice? Not gonna happen...

Bitcoin do not have centeral point of control or main server which can be shut down that's why it is decentralised currency which is running across different nodes around the globe on your computer. For joint efforts government can ban them but still there will be Bitcoin usage and no government is going to took that step jointly as many have regulated it and others are on the way.

Internet cannot be shut down in today's era because of digitalization and so is the case with Bitcoin and moreover 51% attack is also not possible due to huge investment and still the other miners will not validate the transactions. So in last we can say it cannot be shut down.

Even though it is prohibited, there will still be loopholes because after all the efforts of the government to prohibit this and make bitcoin illegal in various countries that have started to ban it, there will still be loopholes and I think it is not a small but very big gap, even in countries that prohibit it there is still a gap. many can access because of that gap.
and people who are in countries where bitcoin is banned must do anything to save their assets.
It's like an open secret just like the eradication of drugs and other crimes you say

It's not impossible but it would take a coordinated effort from governments and companies of different countries to attack/control the network then completely shut it down. It looks impossible because I doubt that anyone would spend billions/trillions/quadrillions of dollars for this. Why would they when they can easily benefit from it through regulations (taxes)?.
besides that here it will cause new crimes again, if the government bans bitcoin on a large scale it will certainly result in bitcoin becoming illegal, and this can lead to new crimes such as creating loopholes so that they can still access bitcoin even though it is prohibited besides that it's still everyone who has dabbling and disadvantaged will still do the action in bitcoin.
it is very difficult to prohibit this because bitcoin is like mushrooming and becoming a trend among young people and large companies.
besides that, investors who have a lot of money will certainly play behind the scenes like bribes etc. when bitcoin is prohibited so that they can run bitcoin even though it is prohibited.
It's really hard to ban this and I'm sure it won't be able to

From my point of view, Bitcoin can't be shut down. Because it is not controlled by one person, it operates on an decentralized method. Bitcoin is controlled by all Bitcoin users, so it literally impossible to shut down Bitcoin. Also the Government just have to embrace Bitcoin and understand that Cryptocurrency won't kill Government fiat currency. The more Government tried to shut it down, the more popular it gets.

I think that only people who do not understand at all what they are talking about are talking about "shutdown". Bitcoin is "Skynet" it cannot be turned off and the revolution has already taken place. It's just that many people and governments do not want to put up with reality and continue to try using old methods to regulate an essentially different economy, which is changing its outlines and participants more and more every day. Complication and progress are inevitable, just not everyone is ready to understand this today.

Well, I think of the same thing, bitcoin can't be turned off because it has a large community, like what binance's CEO says, that more than 500 million people currently hold bitcoin, how can bitcoin die if that many people hold it, and bitcoin is also the most profitable asset because it is a financial industry.

There are still lots of upcoming adoptions so we should expect the best instead of thinking about negative things that might happen.

Right now they are not banning, they are only regulating. It's going to be impossible to ban nor shutdown BTC and they realized this so they are only regulating. They are however overdoing it because there seem to be CLEAN BTC and UNCLEAN BTC which affect the fungibility of the coin. There isn't really a regulatory standard for Bitcoin, they just come up with this regulation at the protocol level that will undermine the fundamental property of BTC.

Actually there is, that would probably be the Internet consortium that has seven members that are spread around the world and they have the rings that is going to access a backdoor for Internet that they use to have a maintenance for the Internet to keep it running for 3 more months so yeah there is an entity that can shut down bitcoin.
I have heard of this and I think that they have an anonymous identity and they live in different countries, they're kind of like the Michelin food reviewers but less anonymous. That's pretty cool that the Internet can only run for 3 months before shutting down because that's such a short amount of time given how fast paced our world is. I think that electric grid companies are probably the other entity that cam shutdown bitcoin for good and only if there will be no electricity again.

The main reason why they do it is so that they do not do money laundering, but the same thing happens, those who use VPN and protect themselves very well, can access and make all kinds of transactions, in addition, OTP exchanges have more emergence, it is It is impossible that in the near future there will be countries with this type of vision, at some point they must retract.

Whenever possible internet disruptions happen, the concerns will definitely have to fix it immediately so that the damage won't be prolong. But in terms of bitcoin banning, a lot of countries have tried to ban bitcoin and their governments impose strict regulations towards bitcoin but it all ends that. No one is capable to shut down bitcoin and its blockchain no matter how they tried.

I got confused why they have to shut down bitcoin when in the fact they can possibly generate profits if they will adopt it? Government officials might fear of bitcoin's transparency and all illegal transactions might be definitely track. But having to use it and impose taxes will still give them the chance to make profits.

On the surface, countries can close some mines and prohibit their mining activities, but private transactions are unavoidable, and Bitcoin is scattered around the world, it is impossible to close it, not to mention the fact that blockchain technology does bring Come some technical updates, I think it will be helpful to humans.

Your opinion?
hello sir, yes i agree with you, however people look at bitcoin and want to destroy it, i don't think it will be able, even elon though, bitcoin has gone very, very long, and in it there is a network that will never even be cut off and if the government regulates or tighten the regulations in bitcoin, I think there will be a demo for it, the government may also change the regulation of bitcoin which is getting bigger and bigger

and we know that until now in some countries there are still differences of opinion and perception about bitcoin and this is what makes bitcoin continue to strengthen from year to year

It's a fact one.Because of this, the bitcoin had struggled over a 12 years. It's because of the fact of decentralized concept. The price of bitcoin also cannot be alter by any of the individual people. It purely the decentralized concept and people easily get profit by just holding it without selling it.

Bitcoin can be stopped if there is no longer internet and community, but it is impossible now. We see there are even billions of dollars in the bitcoin industry. That's also one of the factors why bitcoin can't be stopped. If, the internet and technology fade that's when bitcoin disappears.
technology is growing day by day as well as the existence of bitcoin making it something that is very much needed in an era like this. the need for bitcoin is clearly very much needed there is no way anyone can prevent it with the progress that is happening today. added days the progress of bitcoin is unstoppable and is urgently needed to facilitate transactions without any restrictions that can prevent it.

yes the internet plays an active role in the use of bitcoin because without the internet there is no benefit, so it is true that you say bitcoin will fade if the internet and technology no longer exist, but is it possible !!! Of course it will not happen, it will become an inseparable need.

fortunately, no one will stop using BTC. i doubt people and even companies will stop using BTC. the government will even adopt the cryptocurrencies including BTC regardless of how much they dislike it being decentralized. the regulations will be very tight one day for BTC since most of us had already submitted KYC documents to exchanges, many might really regret why they did this including me.

indeed no one can turn off bitcoin, but they the governments can ban it. because they feel they are not benefiting from bitcoin, so they forbid it. the other reason is hacking and criminal networks, that's the main reason they want to shut down bitcoin. all of that was a plan from the past, and crypto still exists today. maybe later the government will be interested and want to create their own digital currency that will compete in the cryptocurrency world.

I don't think anyone really wants to shut down BTC right now. Now there is a lot of different information on this matter, but most of it is just manipulation and large players specifically use this information and some media people to whip up the situation around Bitcoin. This is how I see it. Even at the time when BTC appeared, it could be stopped, but no one did it, and now, after several years have passed, BTC has become stronger and its use has become more, which means that the idea of closing it becomes even more unrealistic than it was at the time of it appearance. The emergence of blockchain and cryptocurrencies was not accidental, but planned to achieve certain goals. So BTC is now like the Internet, in order to stop them, you need to turn off all the power in the world, but no one can do this for sure.

It seems impossible to realize Bitcoin or crypto transactions offline, even I can't imagine how this can be done. Because all this time I know Bitcoin
in the online world, so the conclusion for me is that without internet Bitcoin will die, because people prefer to refocus on using fiat if there is
no internet connection. Therefore, in almost all countries now the internet is indeed a mandatory requirement, such as eating. So in other words
it is impossible for the internet to be turned off to be able to make Bitcoin die,  because surely the effects of the internet shutdown can be
very dangerous for the economy.

even though there is a prohibition by the state because of the uncontrollable nature of bitcoin and it is clear that individuals can still do it with access points from other countries. As technology advances, everything can be done if there is an intention to do it.

Obviously I agree that bitcoin can be banned but no country will be able to turn off transactions against bitcoin because they are clearly not decentralized which will be difficult to do anything with bitcoin. countries may prohibit by rules but bitcoin will continue to run by itself.

Interesting fact that many people come from countries that have banned Bitcoin, but they can still own Bitcoin. This means that Bitcoin is
very difficult to shut down, and as long as there are people doing Bitcoin transactions, Bitcoin will not die. If the internet didn't exist,
of course Bitcoin could die, but that kind of problem wouldn't happen. Considering the internet has become an important part of human life,
because many activities have been carried out online. Humans are already very dependent on the internet for their lives, so it is impossible to
turn off the internet, which means as long as there is an internet Bitcoin will stay alive.

I can't agree more on this that no single individual and governing bodies can shut down bitcoin. Bitcoin has come a long way and we have seen many negative rises of bitcoin from governments of some countries here and there. In Nigeria, we witness one recently this year February but this can't stop bitcoin with internet access and miners doing their thing.

What you believe is right...
Bitcoin had come from nothing and a very questionable existence but it was a big surprise how the community adopts the system. This will just imply that Bitcoin will continue to grow instead of becoming dead.

We can see that some countries are banning Bitcoin/crypto, however, they are not enough to make it stop. And that is also because they don't have a reason why it should be done.

Yup, the guy is right, and this is nothing new. I believe that everyone who has been around here for a long time and has taken time learn about Bitcoin already knows by now it cannot be shut down by anyone, not even the government can shut it down. And moreover, they can’t stop people from making use of bitcoin.

Of course I do understand that they can place restrictions in some ways, but that’s enough to stop the people who have decided to be making use of bitcoin. Since it is a decentralized currency, people are going to make use of peer to peer methods, which is the original form of Bitcoin, to carry out transactions without a single restriction.

I agree with this. It would be hard for the government to stop cryptocurrencies from being used by the people. And we all know that not even a single programmer can remove the existence of it. Comparing it to piracy and drug usage. Drugs are tangible enough to be stopped but still, it stays alive. The industry is still there and winning. Unless all of the nodes are removed and the chance is only around .01%.
And also, sooner or later people would put the Bitcoin to the space. At that point it would be harder for them to stop it. That's the truth.

Currently, in an era that has advanced, the need for digital money is very important, plus it's time to reduce the use of fiat because it is indicated that fiat is one of the means of transmission from Covid-19.

so with bitcoin, this is an era that has made progress, of course it must be used, because apart from trading, bitcoin is very reliable for long-term investment and daily trading.

whether crypto can be lost, the possibility is always there if there are not many who use it and there are other alternatives, but we know that every time the use of bitcoin is increasing, it can be seen from the ever-increasing market cap which indicates that people actually need bitcoin.

That would require a united global approach because otherwise certain countries will take that opportunity and do the exact opposite: make it legal tender.

Let me ask you this: when in the history of planet earth did the countries around the world successfully collaborate in order to achieve one and the same goal collectively, in particular when money is involved?

Keep also in mind that old politicians are soon to leave and younger politicians with kids who are into crypto will follow. I have heard politicians talk about their kids and how they are into digital assets. Such an action would be of temporary success only, for sure.

True in theory, but regulatory bodies and governments can severely limit access to and redemption of Bitcoin for goods and services. While the network will always be usable through an internet connection, and Bitcoin will always have value, there is a question of what happens if the use and custody of BTC is heavily regulated or straight outlawed due to Governmental fear of losing their monopoly on the money supply. Sure at a fundamental level, governments and regulatory bodies cannot control who or what you send your bitcoins to, and from where you might receive them. However, it can be made extremely difficult logistically to spend your Bitcoin on goods and services which is ultimately what you will hve to spend it on if you’re going to live off of it.

Energy consumption, terrorism funding, illicit activity in general, money laundering.. these aren't real reasons but just excuses, and a fair amount of people do take the bait!
i agree with what you say , they just scare , only ban but they still can't stop its existence . Shutting down is a much bigger challenge; the worse I could think of is the idea of bitcoin losing its credibility due to manipulation.
No such information provided that killing BTC is possible.

And I really doubt btc can lose credibility over market manipulation, many people already know the reason why market is been manipulated, whales do this to create panic and weak hands will sell their coins away cheaply, this has nothing to do with btc reputation,
And as for government, they can only try to ban and that is as far as it goes, even when they ban trading still go on in the background, government can really do much because people will always find alternatives.

Anyone who participates in market with either trading or investing should know that manipulation is always part of the game in one form or another. It is what it is, whether it is crypto or gold or real estate or anything else, the markets are manipulated in some way. I don't think there is ever a solution to that. It's like a set in stone rule of the game.

the chances are very slim and i'm hardly sure btc will lose its credibility even if there is manipulation. we know some people have tried to manipulate with fud and bad news about btc. but until now btc is still going strong and still surviving no one doubts that.
from here we already know what the credibility is like and in the future I also think it will be like that, the credibility of tc will remain above and will not waver due to manipulation

A Bitcoin ban can only happen indirectly if there is a threat to the real economy. The threat potential depends on the size of the hype. Bitcoin has lost some of its attractiveness with some credit card providers. The reason is that credit cards are issued in someone else's name and are therefore suitable for converting money obtained through criminal activity into cash.

Pretty much. They can outlaw it, but they can't ban it.

And yes, a country's government making the ownership of bitcoin illegal would definitely be unfortunate, but let's be honest here: how successful are governments going to be in banning digital things? They can't even ban digital piracy and drug usage, what more with a freakin decentralized asset?
when the government banned bitcoin and made it illegal, its citizens did not necessarily follow such advice. there must be some of its residents who are still doing both trading, mining and trading here.
because yes, it is like you said, even though it is forbidden to trade drugs, it still exists and is rampant everywhere as well as bitcoin whose assets are decentralized and of course it is very difficult for countries to track and prohibit.
although it may sound like illegal and criminal to be on the other side (not allowed by the government) but I'm sure there are still some people in countries where bitcoin is banned still doing that

Theoretically, this is true, but governments and regulatory bodies can severely restrict access to and redemption of bitcoin.

Politicians rule their governments looking for votes all the time. At this moment they are testimonying this phenomenum called "Cryptocracy" and surely they won't want to loose the opportunity to advantage of it. This is the dangerous part for the crypto's success!

One thing is to let cryptocurrency be regulated in a decentralized way another thing is a government dictate its rules about. Specifically, Bitcoin has its own identity so it is a self protected coin against the old financial system but a non protected coin when exposed to the nonstop reinvented politics in hands of unscrupulous polticians. It could occur If, I say if, they monopolized Bitcoin, fact that is practically impossible!

Long live to the Cryptocracy!!!

Agree that no one can shut down Bitcoin from a technical standpoint. But it can fall out of favour just as fast as it fell in favour over the last few years. The price of Bitcoin is determined game-theroretically (it's valued by people according to what they think other people will value it). While some things can be dismissed as FUD when there is just a perceived threat, when the threat becomes reality eventually it well reflect in the game theory determined value.

if for some reason we get back to the stone age then btc may shut down. otherwise impossible, no matter what legal status. a revolution has taken place, too many are already in the boat. whether viewed technologically or historically. it is impossible.

I agree no one can turn off bitcoin now especially now that there are countries that have legalized bitcoin. This is one of the shocking news for the development of bitcoin so for now I don't think there is a loophole to shut down bitcoin.

The circulation of bitcoin between two people will always be available, it is here to stay, if it is legal or not, it should be a consideration in the background for those who are and those who want to join.

Until when(!?) that repetitive discourse on whether governments will accept bitcoin or if they will ban it, the important thing here is that new users of any type arrive, that the capitalization of bitcoin grows and that the volatility of bitcoin finally becomes an intrinsic characteristic of bitcoin that everyone uses as an investment technique and not to whine.

Truly no one can shutdown bitcoin, it has  grown beyond that space. Bitcoin is being held by many people all over the world and there truly believe in it and also so many big investors and companies has interest in bitcoin as well because of the profit there derive from it so no matter the situation no one can shut down bitcoin, in the past years bitcoin has faced so many challenges which it overcame so no matter the FUD created bitcoin will survive it's sure and certain.

Im so agree with this, back at 2017-2018 period theres so many country banned bitcoin or do something bad into BTC but BTC keep survive and become stronger and more stable every year. And this current situation (China) is just same like before, so we just need to chill and don't panic with this current situation.

I really agree with your opinion bro, to turn off bitcoin is now very unlikely, because bitcoin has been legalized by several countries, because the benefits of bitcoin have been felt by many people, bitcoin has lived for more than 10 years, if anyone says bitcoin will die, in my opinion it's not possible..

Bitcoin cannot be completely banned or banned from use by any government or group in any country is not possible. Bitcoin is a unique medium of exchange and is not controlled by anyone. Many people think that if the government bans it, it may not be possible to use or exchange it, but this is a completely wrong idea. Because it is not possible for the government of any country to completely ban or control the use of Bitcoin. It depends entirely on its users and the number of Bitcoin users is increasing day by day. So it can be said that no one can stop Bitcoin.

Yes no one can shut down bitcoin as long as there still a miner out there the Bitcoin cannot be shut down although the government can ban it they still can't stop it and monitor all of its citizen if one or few of them are still mining the government can only do is to ban it but it won't stop the person in receiving and sending Bitcoin as a mode of payment.
Unless all the government becomes like China, where every street corner has a camera or some form of surveillance., i think they will be able to suppress anything illegal not to mention that in small spaces, mines gets pretty hot so some neighbors will probably notice it.

I strongly concur with your point. No one can shut down the Bitcoin. It can only happen if their is no internet again and I don't think that can happen. Because even our government now depends on internet. Almost everyone uses internet now. Everything is been computerized now.bitcoin has been in existence for so long, it's a means of employment for many Nigerians. So nobody can close it because as a nation we are gaining from it.

A catastrophic dooms-day scenario on earth that shuts down the internet would be the only way the bitcoin network would be "shut down" but this is realistically outside the realm of possibility at this point.

Some have given a way but those are just possibilities if something really has to happen as such.

Yes, that's one possibility but the chances of it happening is below to zero point and a decimal percentage.

Bitcoin is lacking a fixed physical form and it has become a wall that the government cannot destroy, they cannot seize assets that are not in physical form, exactly as you say, the government can go to the mining sites and interact with the owners but they can't do it with all the people who are online, can't verify who is behind the addresses exchanging in bitcoin. The strongest is still our key, sometimes there are passwords that we can't remember and if we don't actively provide it, others can't access it either.
