Post by: lee0052 on June 09, 2021, 09:53:06 PM
Hi guys ;)
Can you please tell me which cold wallet is best for storing my altcoins?
And what wallets do you use? ???

I suggest you use a hardware wallet. But first, check whether the coin you are going to store is supported by the hardware wallet or not.
I use the Trezor T and Nano X.

For further discussion about wallets, please go to the Wallet software (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=37.0) board.
Or you can also read the guide on one of the following links to choose a wallet that meet your needs: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet (https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet).

Husna QA already mentioned it. Nothing beats a hardware wallet. I am using Ledger for a couple of altcoins. The rest I am keeping in an exchange wallet as I am simply playing with them to increase my Bitcoin. Having said that, the best wallet is that which suits your circumstances. What are your specific altcoins? What are they for? Are they for long term hodling? Are they for trading?

If you intend to HODL your altcoins and if they are supported by either Trezor or Ledger, then go for either of the two.

You might as well answer the questions given by other members to narrow down the choices and to carefully choose which wallet that suits your needs.

Personally, though, since I am just holding few altcoins for a long-term hold, I decided to just use Ledger Nano S because I really don't need a large amount of storage space to keep my altcoins away from a custodial wallet. If you are talking about storing ERC-20 tokens, then you can just integrate your Ledger Device with an external wallet like MyEtherWallet or MyCrypto in managing them. Anyhow, here is the full list of supported[1] coins and tokens of Ledger.

If your not in a mood to spend money on a hardware wallet (hardware wallet highly recommended) then use a desktop wallet. Ensure that the desktop in not often connected to the internet. There are many non custodial multi cryptocurrency wallet out their for free and most of them have desktop version.

I will suggest you go for "Trezor Model T" cold wallet, because "Trezor Model T" is an advance cryptocurrency hardware wallet that supports more than 1200 coins, which is designed to store and encrypt your bitcoin public keys, password and other digital tokens with confidence.

And here are some advantage of using Trezor Model T:
1. It supports more than 1200 coins
2. It is a simple to use cold wallet for securing your digital assets.
3. It gives you ability to take ownership of your data.
4. It protect your cryptocurrencies, password and other digital keys from hackers and theft.
5. It has a great customer service team available 24hours of the day, ready to solve your difficulties.

So, I think with my detailed explanation, I guess I have been able to answer your question? 🤔🤔... Alright..

And secondly, before I forget, you can get Trezor Model T cold wallet at a small price of $200..

So thank you.

Check your altcoins if they are supported by Ledger or Trezor. Since the link for Ledger has been already given, this is for Trezor.

https://trezor.io/coins/

They're the best wallet that you can use for cold storage. It's been tested and very recommended by everyone who have tried it including me.

Depends on what coins you are thinking of storing. There are some shitcoins which aren’t supported by any of the known hardware wallet. However, apart from Ledger and trezor (both of these are the best option), you can also check with safepal.

As an alternative to a modified hardware wallet using offline device, you can use a live OS such as Linux and run your wallet from there. There's a lot of interesting stuff such as persistent drive, etc which should help with the security. Obviously you need to spend more effort by storing your device on a secure place, etc. It's a cheap solution if you can't buy a HW. Don't expect the security to be the same though.

In the first place dude, may I know what altcoins are you planning to store it at the cold wallet?
Because so far the only wallet in which I used now was MEW, and Trust wallet and Metamask, and
I had been using this wallet for a couple of years now, and so far so good I didn't encounter any
problems while using it and keeping all the altcoins that's been there for a years now.

For me it's useless to keep shitcoins only in a cold wallet if for the long term except for some of the top 10 coins at CMC it may still be worth holding on for longer.

Will the OP keep the shitcoins longer or do they want tighter security? I think what is mentioned above is already the best recommendation for choosing a cold wallet (Trezor and Nano Ledger)

If you only store altcoins for daily use, then I think trustwallet is also much safer and easier to use.

You certainly weren't paying attention during the time =https://qz.com/1261540/mew-ethereum-hack-the-internets-infrastructure-was-compromised-to-target-myetherwallet/myetherwallet's DNS servers where temporarily hijacked (http://=https://qz.com/1261540/mew-ethereum-hack-the-internets-infrastructure-was-compromised-to-target-myetherwallet/myetherwallet's DNS servers where temporarily hijacked)
People lost money and it's one of the reason why web wallets are not encouraged

Software wallets should also be used when storing small amounts of coins. One of the best options for a cold wallet is a hardware wallet. Most hardware wallets support multiple cryptocurrencies.

Tronlink mobile is the best
But that just focuses on TRXs economy.

Those coins are only made from the Tron network so if OP got some other coins. He's not able to deposit it on that mobile. Correct me if I'm wrong since I haven't used it but it's mainly focused to its own network other than making itself as a multi-currency wallet.

For me it's useless to keep shitcoins only in a cold wallet if for the long term except for some of the top 10 coins at CMC it may still be worth holding on for longer.
Maybe OP got some good altcoins such as Ethereum and other than out of the top 10 from the Coinmarketcap.

If you are going to store multiple coin then I suggest you to go with a hardware wallet like Ledger Nano X, but if you are going to store the tokens like ERC20 then paper wallet would be enough in my opinion which is literally free and safe as hardware wallet but only concern is you need to keep the private keys safe.

MEW(myetherwallet), or Trust wallet, or Atomic wallet, or TRX apps something like that.
Keep in mind that those wallets are not designed for cold storage. Unless you install it on a closed system that never gets connected to the internet. But even if that's true, the security and features are definitely not the best. Might as well focus on creating an encrypted paper wallet or USB device instead.
