Title: Hey crypto miners with Nvidia GPUs on HiveOS, wake up! Too many bad OC settings!
Post by: Didz on June 18, 2021, 07:27:27 PM
Hey guys,

In HiveOS when you OC your graphic card you can go see the popular presets for the overclocking. From there you see for instance for the RTX 3070, how many users on HiveOS overclock their card with a specific settings (CORE, MEM, PL).

Unless there's something I don't understand, sooooo many people on HiveOS don't use the new core frequency locking function offered from HiveOS.

In other words, it allows you to significantly reduce the power consumption of your rig without losing hash rate.

If you have one of these Nvidia graphic cards: 1660s, 2060s, 2070, 2070s, 2080, 2080s, 3060Ti, 3070, 3080, A6000, 3090 running on HiveOS simply adjust the Core Clock to block the core frequency, here's the table from HiveOS to apply the good Core Clock for each GPU:

I'm letting you know because I don't understand why people would prefer to run their GPUs with higher power consumption for the same hash rate they could get if they apply the core frequency locking function from HiveOS with a lower power consumption.

Less power consumption = more profitability!

Here's the link from HiveOS explaining more in details their new core frequency locking function for Nvidia GPUs.

Thank you very much, but I'm already so used to working with a minus sign.
I'm waiting for funny questions, like I set the value to 600 and my video card does not mine :)
For old video cards, I think this will be a useless update, because you can't customize them better. And for new video cards, maybe yes.

Yea it's for GPUs with the latest Nvidia graphics processors, Turing or Ampere.
I couldn't believe it when I first used that new function, my RTX 3070 went from 140W (If I remember well) to 114W with the same 62.37 MH/s.

There is nothing magical about this because I'm able to get 61MH per 3070 with 117watts power draw I believe it all depends on your many times you are willing to find the best spot for your GPU using OC softwares, anyways HiveOS just makes the work alot easier

lowering the core power consumption means lowering its heat, therefore it will also lower the temps of those gddr6x of the 3080, 3080ti and 3090.

the core and vrams is using the same heatsink and board, they are very close to each other.

gddr6x is notoriously hotter than gddr6 so if you own those cards, yeah cool down your cores! it is a must!

HiveOS is definitely the best. Especially if you want to try doing dual mining.

Naaaa I hate HiveOS, but i have also 2 Rigs running on HiveOS. It is not the best and every miner has his own preferences and please no battle about windows or linux

I use windows with Awesomeminer and i set fixed core voltages on nvidia now for 3 years, so this is nothing new.  ;)

I've talked about it for a while but nobody was interested. I set fixed vcore - powerlimit 100% (for stable coreclock) and adjust it + or - core clock. You can also set fixed clocks / voltages over nvidia smi
