Title: Question about solomine ETC
Post by: TheMimic1 on July 30, 2021, 09:56:56 AM
I heard that one can still solo mine ETC with about 500MH to 1GH and get block solved every 7 days and if you are lucky you can solve two or even three blocks a week which ultimately means you earn more profits this way, how true is this? Anyone into solomining here ?

It's a no for me because solo mining is based on luck, I would only do this if I have a gigantic mining farm or if I've already made back my ROI, to me ROI comes first then I start trying out new things or probably keep mining a particular coin and hold for long term.

The network difficulty have increased a lot since the times where an Ethereum Classic costed just a bit more than 5 dollars.Back at that time November 2020 you could do this with 500 Mhsh and get about 2 blocks with 6.30 Ethereum Classic each.I don't think it is now possible at 300 TH network difficulty,at that time the difficulty was ridiculously low compared to 300 TH that it is now.You can try for one week and see for yourself if you have at least 1 GH or more in processing power, the maximum you will lose is one week of electricity in the worst case scenario,if you can afford this by all means give it a try otherwise just mine the most profitable coin as everybody else is doing.

If you look at the pools that offer solo mining you will find that 0.5~1.0ghs is no where near enough and what they are earning is far less than you would make on a pool in a week with that hash rate.

Luck is always great...but in the end it will be a loss at those hash rates.    Last year that was possible...but network was way smaller.

It's a complete waste of time, I advice to keep mining and getting paid every hour instead of trying to do solomining, this only makes sense if the coin or project is a brand new one, meaning difficulty will be very low and chance of solving a block will be high

Look at the statistics of miners on solo pools. These statistics are public. I tried mining, but my greed defeated me after a failure, and I stopped mining on solo pools.
Maybe you're in luck.
Ethereum classic has few block fees, so it is not as interesting for solo mining as Ethereum
