Title: Best OS for Vega build
Post by: Stanlo on August 02, 2021, 02:20:09 PM
I am trying to find the best Mining OS for my 7x Vega 56 rig and hiveOS have a separate OS for Vega cards only, have anyone give this a try? Any Vega miner on here? How is the performance compare to MMPOS ?

I think you'll get the same performance. The main thing here is which interface is more convenient for you.
Since I have been using Hive OS and RaveOS for a long time, I do not need to learn MMPOS

Mmpos is the best OS for Vega cards because the OS is well optimized for these cards and you don't have to work much on timing and memtweak like you must do when using HiveOS, also you get less energy consumption easily compare to hiveOS, even if you have the hynix Vega cards which many are avoiding mmpos got you covered

I run Hive OS with my Vega for a long time. It's perfect
My brother prefer mmPOS, both works great

The important thing is to be able to tune the memory timing, wich can be made with UI on mmPOS
Or with command on Hive OS

For Vega cards stick with hiveOS everyother miners sucks in performance rate most especially if you have the hynix version of Vega cards, they are the most stubborn to set for high performance

All mining OS are almost the same, they have same settings and tweaking the oy different here is their looks (interface) yea interface can make things more complicated and it takes time to get used to them, I personally like hiveOS more and one time that I try to see how MMPOS works I ran back to hiveOS, raveOS has the most ugly Interface though

;D i'm still using windows for my 8 vegas, easy to config when using hwinfo, as you know every gpu wont always same clock settings, and realtime hw info to figure out right clock is the only way to make stable config
and yeah more flexible using linux, is hard to find vega these day

Miners usually use the same clock settings for all video cards. If one farm, then it does not matter which operating system to use. The same hive os is very convenient when you have more than 10 mining farms, because Windows is not very convenient to administer such a number of PCs. It's cheaper to pay $ 3 a month to buy Hive OS.

Mem clock settings aren't always the same with windows OS and hive OS, I don't know why, for example I have a gtx1660 super mining ETH in windows to achieve 30MH I have to use 1400 in windows but in hiveOS you need to insert more than 1400 nearly double this number using HiveOS
