Title: Page Views..
Post by: ChiBitCTy on August 13, 2021, 02:11:44 AM
Real simple question, and I apologize if this has been answered here before.. when it comes to page views of your own thread, does you looking at it ever count as a view?  Seems like at times it does but at others it does not.  Just curious.  Thx in advanced.

If I'm correct, it counts when the thread has a new reply and you visit thread. Without a new reply, if you visit the thread more than one, it should count 1 view only. This is what I have understood from my service thread.
An old discussion but not satisfactory as well- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4385465.0

I remembered visiting some of my threads and the view counts increase by 1. But it's not like it happens each time I refresh, but rather I visit it now, 10 minutes later I come back for another visit.

Page views are not based on unique visitors.

As far as I can tell, this is the only condition required to increase a thread's view count by 1: if you visit the thread for the first time, or visit a new thread and return to it, the count increases. Perhaps it's more general in that any forum "action" counts as a reset - people can spade for the technicalities if they choose.

Visiting a thread everytime will increase the count by one and I think its same like how login time calculated.

If you create a thread and refresh it immediately then it will give 1 view and after a minute if you click back and then click the thread again will increase by one and so on.

Page views are not based on unique visitors.

It kind of is... not really unique visitors but session keys, so it would count recurring visitors also.

When you open a new thread and click on Post it will take you to the newly created thread and your first view will be counted.

After that all that matters is the session (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_(web_analytics)). If you visit a thread multiple times the views will not be counted, only if you open it after a 10-15 period of inactivity after your session expires.

There's no time limit if you visit a separate thread: try it.

Check the view count on this thread right now, visit another thread, then come back. (It also increases on new replies)

Actions must be the viewing of "pseudo-new" threads, replies, and decay after some duration.

(but not edits nor private messages)

Confirmed! This makes it trivially easy to increase the Read-counter on a topic.
