Title: Using two different mobo consumes more power
Post by: Gunday_07 on August 18, 2021, 09:12:59 AM
Is 750watt power supply enough for a gtx 1660, RTX3070ti and two Vega GPUs? Way too much or still good enough? I'm trying to reduce electricity consumption since I'm running a 3070ti and 1660 in a motherboard and the Vegas in a motherboard too

two Vega 56  300W
rtx3070ti  150W
1660  100W
MOBO 100W
-------
650 W
The Vega 56 can consume up to 200 watts if not properly configured.
Which power supply do you use?
If you have a good power supply unit Gold or Platinum from Corsair, Cougar and it has a minimum 5-year warranty, then you can try, but be sure to use a wattmeter.

Will not work.

Your 750 Watt PSU might handle all that power however you won't have enough PCIe connectors to power all that stuff. The Vega alone will require 2x PCIe so 4x will go towards the Vega's and most likely the PSU has no more than 4 connectors.

Don't use any of those splitters which take 1x pcie 8 pin into 2x pcie 8 pin because you will end up melting something. I would suggest either using another PSU and joining them together or get some larger >1200 Watt PSU and you should be all set.

And why buy a new power supply, if the author of the post has 2 of them. He needs to buy the power supply synchronizer

And then you need to think about how best to mine on a farm from mixed video cards. Use 2 miners for AMD and Nvidia or configure one.

You don't need a new power supply you need add2psu, I'm sure everyone has more than one 650-750 watt power supply at home this days so just connect them together, this even equals more power at your service

Check the power supply that you are using if that's true rated, we might encounter possible low performance when our power goes down badly and can't sustain the long hours operation.
Two mobos, somehow consumes a lot of energy compared to single running boards that's why we needed to ensure power supply capabilities will serve a certain purpose for our operation.

Lol no 750w only manage 2 Vegas + 1660, if you can buy 3070ti, shouldn't be problem buying 1k psu, better safe than sorry

And minimum is gold series psu, platinum is recommended for best buy, because quality component depend on that type

Two Vega 56 GPUs and two 1660 can work on 750watt power supply, Vega can consume 300 watts max and those two 1660 can take 160watts combine that's still 450watt out of 750watts, pretty safe I think

My Vega consumes 108 watt for mining ETH but from wall it's actual 130watt so yes 750 should be enough to power two Vega cards and two less power consuming graphic cards like 5500xt or 1660s or even the new 6600XT
