I was watching this unfold, I think this auction acts as a landmark auction.

the market has determined that price to be fair market value for the .1 silver cas.

on the other side, someone paid 2600 for a quarter ounce of silver and a broken sticker ...

Thx for the answer..

Saw someone posted here that 0.1 casascius silver is a bit hard to find, and quite rare compared to other casascius coin

Certainly there are people that value things this way and you can't fault them for it.  The trick is to find the goods that are the, "baby being thrown out with the bathwater" and take advantage of low valuations when you can during periods of low premiums.  That's for collectors looking to expand their collections at least.  I am glad to see people popping up here and beginning to value things based on USD, it's a step in the direction of reality as this market continues to mature.

Holy shit this sold for a lot!  In my opinion this coin isn't worth nearly that much peeled, but hey whatever a buyer is willing to pay is what something is worth right.  At this price however, this is typically what the 25 Casascius coin sells for.  I've never seen a peeled coin sell for this much I don't think tbh.  I've seen peeled silver 1 BTC Casascius coins sell before, but never for this much either.  Personally if I was buying a Casascius coin without any bits on it I'd be going after the St Petersburg Bitcoin Bowl Game coin.  I think you could get that for half the price.  Cool coin of course, don't get me wrong.

I am not one to peel or collect peeled coins but at least the casascius will have "some" value in 10 years unlike the fiat they exchanged for it.

You’d be surprised. My strong pulse based on recent private sales of peeled gold 25 is that they are actually selling for $8-10k with the holo attached and in good condition.

I would like to say I’m not here to make accusations, but I followed the auction closely, and noticed bids from people with zero feedback pushing up the price. Looks as though the final buyer had feedback and scored the coin. It doesn’t look like a fair auction to me personally but it is possible people that don’t normally use eBay registered to buy the coin or something like that possibly. I feel it is overpriced as well but to each their own! I hope premiums continue to rise as the years go by.

i think that the price range is quite okay, especially since this is a redeemed silver Casascius coin.
i am very lucky that i also have one that is not yet peeled. ;)
and if more time passes, the Bitcoin comes even more into the mainstream, and then even in time more Cas coins are redeemed, then the collector value also rises :)

Damn this is unfortunate.  I did not watch the auction nor do I even know who sold the coin, but I do know that there is often a ton of shill bidding going on in the eBay world.  I was actually going to post about a certain bitcoin coin (ruthenium covered American Eagle bitcoin coins) that was being shill bided like crazy every single auction.  So moral of that story is this is certainly nothing new...now I suppose it is possibly some new buyers but  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
