Title: 59% of Bangladeshi are interested to see Bitcoin legal here
Post by: Little Mouse on September 05, 2021, 02:57:12 PM
Someone on r/bangladesh had created a poll on Bangladeshi people's perspective on legalization of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency. Although the sample size is too small, 59% people think that Bitcoin should be legalized in the country. On the other hand, 29% people think that it shouldn’t be legalized  while the rest ~12% don't even know what the heck is Bitcoin.
Though sample size is small, still it represents a certain amount of people from which 59% want to see Bitcoin as legal. This is somewhat good in my opinion.

All underdeveloped countryes / governments have something against Bitcoin and cryptos in general for various reasons.

no it still can not be a benchmark. The sample taken does not have qualifications because it cannot be verified. it is possible for one person to create multiple accounts to vote. if you want to do a survey, doesn't the offline method have a higher level of accuracy. so we can know what bangladesh really want with bitcoin.

Developing country like Bangladesh should take the advantages of Bitcoin. People don't know about Bitcoin in details and that's the reason they mark it as a illegal coin. If we think positively, Bitcoin can boost the economic condition. Government should take necessary steps to legalize it.

if you want to do a survey~
It's a poll, not a survey! it's great to get an insight for the active subreddit Bangladesh users toward bitcoin. But in order to get more elaborative insight or get better results its surely need to conduct a survey on a well-established enough samples.

Bangladesh has a population of around 167M people (https://countrymeters.info/en/Bangladesh) (other sources place a few million less). Out of those, something like 108M are 15 years old, or above. Most sample size calculators (https://www.surveymonkey.com/mp/sample-size-calculator/) will point to needing around 1K participants in a poll/survey for it to be relatively significant (95% confidence, 3% error) on that population.

The poll on Reddit bears only 127 votes, which should in any case be non-biased, fairly distributed amongst the population (age, education, geography, etc.), being a lone thread on Reddit likely not to comply with these factors, besides falling very short in terms of sample size.

Nothing can thus really be concluded. At best, it can be seen as a hint to further investigate in more adequate sample conditions.

Bangladeshis who work in this bitcoin forum are all getting bitcoin legalization in the country. But the government of Bangladesh is not giving it legitimacy.I think Bangladesh should be given the legitimacy of this trial. Because many people in Bangladesh work on this bitcoin.Bangladesh is a least developed country with a large population. It is not possible for the government to provide employment to all. So there are many unemployed young women who work in bitcoin and run their own families. So I think in order to solve the problem of unemployment in Bangladesh, Bangladeshi scientists must be given legitimacy

Honestly yes but at the same time these are the countries who can actually afford to try things like bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies as well. They have a scope and at the same time survey or no the government needs to get involved and at the same time encourage the general public as well.

I do think that the 12% are the people who are more involved with the traditional investments. At the same time there are people who are living in extreme poverty who am pretty sure did not even take the survey and therefore I do think that the figures will be quite different as compared to what we are seeing right now.

I thought there's an official announcement that comes from the Bangladesh government that Bitcoin is legal.

IMO, I don't think this is possible.  IIRC, the country of Bangladesh has a majority are Muslims and AFAIK, in Islamic law, they are still prohibited to use Bitcoin under their jurisdiction.  And the comment above was right, there are millions of people in Bangladesh but on the Reddit poll, only 127 users are out there that can be also there's a chance that the poll could be manipulated by them.  Let's have a better source before we believe.

Crypto should legalize, most of the countries in the world legalize crypto, even Islamic countries or poor, the corrupted country also adopt crypto. In many countries where the inflation rate is high, their peoples also adopted crypto. I don't know why Bangladesh still lag behind, where the ICT ministry develops high-tech parks and invested so much money, still they do not have enough peoples to regulate it.
I think, after 10 years, crypto will never legalize in this country. Some sources show that the police treat traders or holders as terrorists, criminals, and so on. And the media system is nothing but a useless medium for spreading fake news about crypto. They knew nothing, but they are still making news with wrong information. They playing a big role in all these miscommunications.

Maybe ~12% are primitive or tech-blind, they are people who don't know anything about crypto technology, the remaining 59%~60% this proves BTC has now become popular and accepted widely. A lot of people know, this is great news and good news for our crypto-loving community.

Since the sample size is low, the fun fact would be that 29% of the users does not even understand what Bitcoin is to begin with. They saw some tabs to click and they just clicked them for their satisfaction ;D. Another options is that they cannot understand the language and randomly clicked something. Anyone who is in the cryptocurrency market want the government to allow them to go about their business and not restrict them.

You can find same stats in developing countries of south Asia like India, Pakistan, Srilanka etc. Main problem is government of such countries are not willing to understand what BTC and crypto is, they are blindly following advisories from developed countries like USA, China etc.
In my opinion, no government of the world really want to accept crypto in its decentralized form.

If you run a Bitcoin poll in this forum either Bangladesh citizens like Bitcoin legalization or not then what will happen? Isn't most of the votes will go on behalf of Bitcoin? The same happens in Reddit, for those who have been using Reddit most of them somehow related to Bitcoin. So definitely most votes will go on behalf of Bitcoin. So this percentage is just limited in Reddit. This vote isn't for overall netizens. I think you would find 5% of the total population in Bangladesh knows about Bitcoin. So no hope for Bangladeshi citizens about Bitcoin legalization near future. Most probably when 75% of countries accept Bitcoin then Bangladesh would move forward. Otherwise, it would remain the same as now.

I also want Bitcoin to be legalised. But the corruption here !! It’ll be used wholly for corruption. I fear some may sell the assets of Bangladesh.

You should not take a reddit poll and try to superimpose it on to the population of an entire country. There are many Bangladeshi's who will not even have internet and are struggling to simply survive day to day - they don't have any care for some virtual currency. I remember an actual poll, taken recently in a proper professional manner, that something like 68% of El Salvadorean's have zero interest in Bitcoin becoming one of their two official currencies. For one, there is no restriction on who can vote for such a poll - anyone around the world can pretend to be from that country to influence the results and two, a tech savvy community (who are much more likely to have Bitcoin already and want the price to rise further) are much more likely to vote for such an outcome. You have been totally biased and presented a dismally poor lie.

Oh come on! The sample size is hell too small not even 0.1% of the Bangladeshi population, moreover it's posted on Reddit which isn't a popular social networking site among common folks in Asia, only tech enthusiasts use it a lot. This poll was created by Bangladeshi tech freaks and answered by the tech freaks too. I am surprised the yes proportion is so less despite it being posted by "Dottothemoon" type of username, only a real referendum sort of thing could tell what people of Bangladesh actually desire, but unfortunately, referendums aren't allowed as per many Asian constitutions which means the will of the government would prevail no matter what people want.

From what I understand reading on some news sites I doubt that even if 5 years go by Bangladesh will not legalize bitcoin unless it is clear that the majority of the population is not just listening and complying with everything the government says without questioning and without seeking use of democracy and freedom, countries under the influence of Islam or with positions of religious extremism seem to have problems with bitcoin

actually it is still lacking to determine the percentage of sample benchmarks. it is supposed to determine the sample should be measured from a few percent of the population of bangladesh to be more accurate. For example, Bangladesh's population of 1 million people, to reach a minimum of 20% of the total population in order to be more accessible. but even so, i see there is already a small group of people in bangladesh giving their opinion on bitcoin, and this could be the first step to being able to do a larger sample in bangladesh in the future.

Just to interject, Bangladesh government as far as bitcoin is concern is on the grey area, so meaning Bangladeshi can trade, own as it is not a crime per se.

But I think the survey is somewhat biased, the sample size is still small to get what Bangladeshi thinks of crypto. But I wouldn't be surprised though, if many of them are into crypto. I mean there are a lot of their neighbouring countries who is a safe haven for crypto already.

You may need to read this news, if Bangladesh Bank know your money came from cryptocurrency you will get jailed. It's tend too illegal rather grey area.

Bangladesh Bank has once again said today that it does not allow holding or trading of any kind of virtual coin or cryptocurrency in the country.

But in order to get more elaborative insight or get better results its surely need to conduct a survey on a well-established enough samples.
It's bad idea since you will get reported from your respondents since you doing a illegal survey, it will only make the surveyor in trouble. You will need to face legal law's on Bangladesh authorities.

If Bangladesh doesn't want to legalize Bitcoin it's okay, but at least make Bitcoin not illegal since it make Bangladesh citizens doesn't have a full freedom. I agree with @DdmrDdmr and @teosanru, the poll isn't accurate due to lack of participants with unpopular social media. Based on my perspective about Bangladesh citizens, seems they didn't want to legalize or doesn't care about Bitcoin. Most of third countries is poor and scared of Bitcoin volatility.

Mark my words! Bitcoin will not be legalized in Bangladesh anytime soon. Same will happen in few other Asian countries like India as well. These countries are underdeveloped for a reason and that is athe regressive mentality of their leaders and religious extremism. I have seen Bangladeshi youths were cheering after Taliban took over Afghanistan. What better you can expect from them!!!! So the poll result doesn't represent the mentality of Bangladeshi youths. It's just a couple of tech savy people voicing their opinion, must not be taken seriously!

The news doesn't mean anything. Bangladesh accounts for a small proportion of the encryption industry.

Bitcointalk = people interested in bitcoin and crypto in general.
r/bangladesh = people interested in Bangladesh.
There's a vast difference in between this two. Well, the population size is too low and selective because people with illiteracy and people who are not active in social media along with the people who are not okay with the internet, have not been counted. Majority of the people here in our local haven’t heard about reddit even.

The news doesn't mean anything. Bangladesh accounts for a small proportion of the encryption industry.
Your point is vague here. El Salvador is also a small proportion regarding the crypto sector but it has announced Bitcoin as legal tender. Don't you think that's an important announcement?
Also, I'm not sure which meaning you are looking for. That's not an important issue for you doesn’t mean not important for others too.
