Title: Up $175k on stake. Would like to spend/treat myself with BTC direct...any ideas?
Post by: thundercatshoo on September 19, 2021, 09:06:20 AM
I've already bought 4 super rep watches from China for about $2,000 total all via BTC transactions...

I'm at a loss on how to spend more without converting to USD...best idea gets $20 in BTC

I would keep most of it in Bitcoin in hopes that Bitcoin continues to rise in a couple of years you could be holding on to more than 500k worth in usd. If you are not in a rush and you do not know what to spend it on I say taking the risk of holding it for better returns would be the responsible thing to do instead of wasting it on watches and luxury items. You are in a better position than 99% of people and I think it would be best to try and secure your wealth for your lifetime.

I am worried I will keep gambling since I am up so much if I don't do anything with the gains to make it feel real. I am HODLING the 3.3 I purchased years ago.

Also I'm only talking about spending like 5-10k as a treat.

OK I think it is always good to treat yourself have you thought about a vacation instead of buying physical items? Because you are worried spending the money I would recommend putting it in a offline wallet which takes longer to take money out of. I would not recommend keep gambling when you are up 175k that is a huge amount of money. I have never come close to that amount in my life. I have never held onto that money in all the years I have worked. That is a life changing amount and I recommend trying to do everything possible to make sure you do not use it  for gambling. You have won at life winning that amount.

I've never had more than 20k usd in my bank account if it makes you feel any better lol. Surprisingly though it's not really "life changing" amount for me despite only having 20k usd. I have to worry about taxes if I cash it out. I could pay off my car but not my house, if I sell everything I still have to work....doesn't really change anything day to day for me which is why I mean it's not life changing. Now if my latest plinko ball on $2400 had dropped into the 1000x instead of the 26x we'd be talking another story for me 🤣🤣

That is crazy! I have never bet that much in my life you must have been sweating very hard putting that bet on. You could turn that not life changing amount into life changing if Bitcoin continues to go up in price which history has shown that it does since it has been created. If Bitcoin doubled you could be looking after paying off your house and car. I am not saying that it will do that but I think it is better odds than betting on Plinko though you are the professional winning 175k :D

- Try lending
There are wallets with really good offers right now, you can set the time till which you want to invest or lend then get the amount after that.
- Invest in other cryptocurrencies as well, not just bitcoins
- transfer the amount in a hardware wallet and lock it away for a while
- do encash some for the emergencies beforehand.
It's really good that you were able to win that much, but the wise thing would be to keep it stable, to keep it there, therefore I do think that it would be better to invest in something and control your urges to gamble for a while. It can all go so wrong so soon.
- you can also invest in startups right now but I would rather bet against them.

They only have good offers because the risk is high I could not recommend lending especially when you are storing your funds on a external website because that is insecure and double the risk because you have the risk of the website exit scamming and you have the risk of the people you are lending to running away with your money. I think the hardware wallet advice is the better option at least the risk is little then.

- Invest in other cryptocurrencies as well, not just bitcoins
Bitcoin will always be the safest and easiest to earn a profit with altcoins are risky and I guess OP does not care about a little risk but altcoins are very unpredictable and if he was to invest a large amount into them it could make other investors dump. He would be a whale in most altcoins in Bitcoin his investment is a drop in the ocean.

That's why I wrote - try lending on good wallets.
There are wallets like Zebpay that I have been using since years and the lending option is actually not only safe, but is also under the legislation therefore there is no way that one can scam you in that sector, that would be equivalent to lending money since to even use that wallet you have to submit every single one of your document.

Secondly, it's always a good option to spread out some amount in other cryptos as well, since it's not always about competition rather there are some cryptos like ETH which usually have a synergistic relationship with Bitcoins, when the bitcoins rises, we sometimes see rise in other Altcoins as well, therefore you would be able to make double profits, if done Right. Ofc it would need research but at the end of the day that works out for a lot of people.

So you like to spend Bitcoin you've won why not visit this section

Marketplace for Bitcoin (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=51.0)

spending Bitcoin is the easiest to do because there are so many merchants that accept Bitcoin don't flaunt your winning you could get outrageous offers or people sending you messages to ask for donations which you cannot verify if it's legit.

It's quite easy. Just go to marketplace board and make a post on whatever you want to buy.
Use a trusted escrow from the forum and someone who is interested would buy that product for you.
You can then send him the bitcoins via escrow.  You will get your product and the buyer will get his bitcoins.
Also, there are many websites which let's you travel with bitcoins, buy gift cards, buy products online etc..

Have you heard about Decentralized Finance (DeFi)? There is already lof of platforms nowadays that you can make more money with your Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, like staking or yield farming but it's on other networks, like in Ethereum, Solana, or Avax, and many more.
So, it could be another alternative if you don't want to convert your assets to USD or other stablecoins.

Try defi platforms and make money out of the 175K you have. There is much more money to earn in lending money than just gambling which you know only depends on how much luck you have. Luxury items like watches are only for the old men today, the new generations are not very appreciative of watches actually, you'll find them starting more to their phones than what's hanging on your wrist. If it's me, I would buy BTC and the rest will be for yield farming or providing liquidity.

That could be the safest way to buy a product from here as he does not have to buy directly using an online account in the online store. But I think he needs to keep it in bitcoin and send it into another wallet and not convert the bitcoin in a large amount because that can make his banks suspicious. When the bitcoin price increase so high, he will make more money by selling his bitcoin. But investing in altcoin will not always be a good decision as the altcoin will follow where the price moves.

Depends on your hobbies, if i'm in your position i'd probably treat myself with a new keyboard since I enjoy watching people share their keyboards and collect different kinds. Others even go further with their keyboards as they buy different keycaps, switches and other possible options to customize a keyboard.

If you don't want to convert anything then I suggest checking the service section (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0), start your own thread there and find someone reputable that could take your request. I've seen others who've done it before and have successfully completed similar transactions.

So when you already have the money, why spend it on replicas and not on some original watch that is actually a long-term investment? As for paying directly with Bitcoin, it is possible to buy almost anything, you just need to know where to look, while always being careful that someone doesn't scam you ;)

Are you looking for ways to diversify your wealth or are do you just want to "waste" money for your own leisure, as your thread title implies?
If you're looking for answers for the second part of my question then I won't be able to help you on that one - I can't understand the need to spend money simply because one wants to spend money. That said, you are free to do whatever you want with the money since it's yours.

On the first part of my question, however, I think I could help you. Without going to deep - since I don't know if you're looking for this kind of information - you can always diversify your wealth into more "traditionalish" investment vehicles to guarantee that your portfolio is diversified enough to sustain drops in the market (the old philosophy of avoiding all eggs in the same basket). Out of my mind I can think of:
  • Exchanged Traded Funds - Not to be confused with mutual funds
  • Stocks - I had to mention this option, although I much prefer the previous one.
  • Real estate - You already have some businesses[1][2][3] that accept crypto as well[/b]
If you are interested in knowing more about these topics, just let me know and I'll gladly try to explain them to you.

what if I had that amount of money.

1. Buy $AST on Binance
2. Stake it all. (all the money gets locked for 4 months)
3. Earn protocol fees every month. Average $3k Month

Or Invest in some solid project where you think you can do at least 25x. Gambling is something I always avoid. If you keep gambling you will lose it all for sure.

Worried about spending it if you kept it in Bitcoin? Then buy a very nice, expensive, hardware wallet or even a collectible like one of those really old, funded coins from one of the users in this forum. You can search this section for Collectibles: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=217.0

These will be relatively "difficult" to spend once you have them (as you'll need to sweep the wallet or tamper with the coin), and they go up in value over time. Also look nice to show off =)

Just be careful to buy and/or use a forum escrow.

I decided to cash out 100k and just have it sit in my account in case of emergency, etc.

I bought a car from Japan, that is being shipped over to the USA.

And I will sit on my even 5.0 BTC for the next 5-10 years before selling anymore :)

I'd take this advice. It's good to spoil yourself but first ensure that you spend only a tiny fraction on luxury items and more of it in crypto or other assets. The value of luxury items depreciates over time when compared to Bitcoin.

The good news is I have 5 BTC with 0 USD of my money left invested by cashing out what I did. I get to enjoy a few things now as a reward for lucky gambling + being invested for years in BTC.

Even if BTC is worth 1mil coin in the future, 5million vs 6-7million is not a huge difference for a normal person, still a fuck ton of money. Don't forget to enjoy yourself in the present a little bit everyone.

That's likely selling bitcoin from $100k-$1M of each of it. Good deal.

Enjoy your car, your cash and holding.
