Especially for short term investing purposes, it's going to totally depend on what the direction you're expecting(or hoping) the market moves towards. Altcoins mostly(obviously not 100% of the time) moves up higher than bitcoin when prices in general are going up; whereas bitcoin tends to get hurt quite less when the markets in general are down.

It would be altcoins if not Bitcoin since most of them hodl their Bitcoin instead of dumping when there's a dip. You should buyback what you have sold from getting profit but if you are only looking for a crypto that would make a quick profit in short term then Bitcoin is not the one since it fluctuate unexpectedly. Choose altcoins that you think would make a move if the bull started such as ETH and BNB but if you want to try the other coin make sure you do your own research to avoid sudden losses.

Look mostly for altcoins that were pumping right before the dip.

Right now the hype is on "Ethereum Killers" Like Solana, Avalanche, etc. Keep an eye on them and the numbers like percentage increase in the last Month, 3 months, 6 Months etc. Obviously, the strategy is for only short term gains. By the time the hype dies down, You must have exited

It depends on what is what you want to achieve, if you have realistic expectations of what you can get out of this market then I think the most important metric is volume, a healthy volume is going to tell you if there is real interest on the coin or if everything is just hype.

Now if you still decide to invest in the coins that are mostly hype then you need to be extremely careful as the volume can evaporate in an instant and you could end up being the one holding the bag and have no way to sell those coins.

Right now, the market came into a dump.

And that's the right time for you to buy and start with bitcoin and next to it. That's a good pattern that you can look at and you don't have to browse a lot in the next pages of these market cap websites.

You start with the top.

This is something that cant be answered. Why? because no matter how hard you do set out those indicators, the price would always be that independent or free to move. There's no such thing about precise

predictions or could able to determine if its already the right time to buy or not.If you do consider on getting in when there -5 - -10% decline then its your choice but be mindful that not all the times

you would really see these rates but if you do then its up for you to risk on and not other peoples advices for you to listen of.

Price and Volume.

These things I considered most when I choose for investment either it was for long-term or short-term. Well, of course, I look first at the leading coins as they are more potentials. And since you are talking about during the dip, choosing those on hyped projects is really risky, never think about trying them if you care about your funds as most of them don't make to recover from the dip but they mostly continued to decline.

Sorry but it's hard to answer, but to tell you frankly, stick on Bitcoin which is considering a safe investment among altcoins.

Maybe NFT projects will give you a profit but this won't have a guarantee, maybe you can do further your own research and don't rely upon other's suggestions because that is your money.  We're talking about financial risk here and I think it's good if you can manage your own risk.

You start with the top.
I tend to agree, go with the top at least on top 20, it might be there's a chance to get profit in there.
But I would stick to Bitcoin if I were you.

Since it’s for short term your best bet is to see which alts are either neutral or bullish when there is a nasty bearish day.

Pull up coin market cap and see if you can find a green alt and find out why it’s green. If it’s because of some positive development then it might be a good short term investment when the market recovers. Because if Bitcoin recovers the alt should pump even more since it’s market cap is smaller and the gains are bigger.

For my short term trades I put emphasis on how profitable they could be in the long run assuming the short term wasn't as profitable as I expected or wasn't profitable at all  I don't just buy coins because they're trending as majority don't usually recover with the market as they get dumped for other trending coin. It's quite easy to spot a project focusing more on development than price speculations observe the team behind the project and what they're more focused on.

I noticed a trend about the Ethereum killers, they don't do so well in the long run, that means if you were to invest with wrong timing for a short term profits and you didn't get that, it means you won't be profitable in the long run so I don't pick those.

Well for short trades I'd go for those that dipped and I'm expecting a quick recover. Though in general, I'd recommend coins that even if they don't get a quick recover, would still do so in the medium to long term, just so that you don't actually lose out on anything. Trying to find a quick short trade most of the time just ends up in the investment crashing down due to it being a shitcoin most of the time anyway. Any of the top coins out there would actually work imo, just that if it fails in the short term, wait it out for a bit more before deciding whether to take the loss.

when it comes shorting i prefer to trade with some alts that very active in the market especially  on this current situation, wherein sometimes i choose those trending projects in coinmarketcap sections because on that way i can really get quick profits, it requires more efforts honestly , i mean you need to picked at least for coins everyday and you need to keep monitoring each of every graph in order to get the real trend, but after all it is all worth it base on my experience.

Mostly I pay attention to what was on hype recently, mentioned in mass media often or which altcoin was spotted more often in unread posts in bitcointalk.org. I get a list of about 10 alts and start checking what they intend to do or promised to achieve during last months, what they have done already and try to imagine if they can really do it. After crossing out those who cant and ticking those who can, I simply check who has lost most in price, make my purchase and wait for profit.

you will buy the cryptos you certainly believe would go up. for short-term investment just get BTC. nothing goes up faster than BTC. one altcoin that grow fast i saw in the past few months was SOL. i guess that's the one that you should have by now. it's not however sure if that will still be the case after this dip.

or the ethereum killers that the shills are saying. ADA isn't really dipping faster so you kind of expect that there will be lots of buyers of it because they did a smartcontract update just this month.

Before buying a cryptocurrency at the time of dip, you would like try to marketing research and know the updated information within the market we like to specialise in verifying when a project is coming to plug and the way reliable it. Bitcoin may be a good long term investment but an honest time to shop for into dip ETH into altcoin these currencies don't got to be tested, they more valuable than other currencies the market will survive for several days.

For short term? Buy United States Dollars! YES, a HODLer suggests you do it, BUT ONLY IF you’re looking for a SHORT TERM investment. Then use this to buy Bitcoin’s dip, and HODL. They are both currencies, aren’t they? Invest in one, HODL the other.

Yes, I agree with ADA, because the price movement of ADA is currently hype and it is likely that many investors will FOMO with this coin because it is predicted to be the next Ethereum killer, and especially now that developers are focusing on developing smart contract features on the platform, this is would certainly be a very good positive sentiment for cardano and potentially help raise the price of ADA in the short term.

You didn't give a timeframe for the short term you're envisaging, at least that would've put it in proper context as words are relative in meaning. However, if by short term you meant a week to a month then I think you might be caught in a crossfire between pump and dump. Three to six months is my range of a short term. I like to look at cryptos with usecase when investing, except on a few instances that I threw a few cents to satisfy my curiosity about certain projects.

Now, what I normally do is to check those cryptos I liked but whose prices got out of my reach. I wait for them to dip and then I buy in and forget it until a few months later. I don't just buy trending cryptos except there's something irresistible it's offering.

For a short time profit, I think it is better to consider coins that are getting hyped and that is because just as you are making the buy, other investors are buying also and that keeps increasing volume and profit. For a long time hodling , I wouldn't look at hype but a real project that has already been established like etheruem and bitcoin.

For short-term profit, I think that it's a good option for us to buy cryptocurrencies that have the potential to go up when it dips and if I can buy more than one or two of those crypto, I might buy them and hodl for the long-term, you probably need to have a lot of money to buy those dips though, you don't want to skimp out.

The problem is that the movement of these cryptocurrencies are hard to predict. You may not know when that specific crypto will pump or dump. It’s just that you only invest or trade an amount that you can afford to lose. If you are looking for short term profits, go for the ones that are getting hyped right now like meme coins.

While price and volume are good factors to consider in investing in altcoin, it is also good to consider how volatile the prices are. This will help to determine if they dip how fast they will recover. A coin like that is BNB.

This really depends on me, besides technical analysis, you can do fundamental analysis too.
Speaking of technical analysis, first I will identify the strong support, like using higher timeframes and plotting support and resistance, especially previous was resistance and becomes support or vice versa.

But buying the dip is still risky like you will not know when the dip will stop, some are waiting for the bounce from a dip or breaking particular support before buying.

Joining the hype unattended is highly dangerous to your investment because anytime it will going to drop so if you see some coins being hyped up it would be best to sell as early as possible since most of the hyped coins will end up dropping soon. If you are in this market for a long time you sure knows a lot of coins that tends to drop after being hyped up and Bitcoin is not an exception every coins has their chance to shine although it depends to who's hyping the coins. And yes, that's right, it's best to focus only on a established project that has a long history in the market.

binance coin is a centralized coin, that's the reason why it can recover quickly...

centralized coins however keep abreast of price changes that occur in bitcoin. bnb and ethereum are examples of centralized coins whose prices change with bitcoin. I think almost all the coins that enter the top 10 are worth buying during the dip, but not for the meme coin.

Choose coins that has huge believers, strong fundamentals and listed in top 100 in market cap, coins that shown a very strong potential in the last few days may bounce really strong once market recovers after this dip for example ADA, SOL, ETH.

Yeah same question came to my mind since yesterday crypto space is going down pretty amazingly. I think this is good news for the peeps who missed the train and wanted to grow the portfolio. I have already concluded few of the coins which I am going to consider this time. The primary one is ADA, MATIC, and BNB. All of these are almost 30-50% down than the original price. Crypto is solid for one thing, they always regain the ATH position no matter what. So yes add these coins first. After this I am thinking about my favourite low valued coin like RVN, FUN, WINK. I think these are enough for this period. I am also interested in someone’s review if they like above listed coins.  :)

For short-term profit, ideally choose alts that have already had a good uptrend and it are dumping because of the whole market.

These alts typically have had a strong run, have a reasonable market cap and this can go even higher, have updates like main-net announcements coming up etc. Obviously, if you are the kind of person with spare you can also take the chance to buy more BTC at a bit of a discount ;)

the safest is to choose top crypto. however, after a sharp drop, I'm pretty sure top cryptos like bitcoin, ethereum, BNB, UNI, and others will bounce, and they do. it can also be used for the short term. however, you need to know the cause of the price drop, and seek information on price analysis. This analysis can be a benchmark for you to choose which coins you need to have, and have a bounce that is strong enough to make you receive big profits.
Right now there is a pretty sharp drop in almost all cryptos, this is your chance to pick a top crypto, and there is no other coin I would recommend other than the top 5 popular coins (other than stable coins).

For a long time hodling , I wouldn't look at hype but a real project that has already been established like etheruem and bitcoin.

Why don't you do this for short term trades as well, as this will be more safer than chasing after hyped coins. Chaser of hyped projects are not better than those paying money, believing in some random channel telling them when to buy or sell a project.

Both parties are taking investment advice from those who they shouldn't be taking such advice from as those advice ase clouded with biased judgement. For instance, the reason behind a coins trending is due to hype from earlier buyers and fomo of noobs just coming into the industry. And before any coins been shared as investment choices in the pump channels, the admin of this groups has already bought some for themselves.

Just check the charts of each coins you're "planning" to invest. Most likely you'll have lower prices in altcoins during these dips, just don't end up buying a shitcoin. If you think that you're risking it "too much", stick with Bitcoin as what sheenshane mentioned.

I go with the top names, they rarely ever disappoint. I got a bit more BNB today for example, it felt like the right idea since I had some BUSD in my wallet already, so I swapped it to BNB and that's it. If I get some more money then I will get some more ETH and BTC as well. Those three are my biggest investments, I have other stuff as well but these three are the ones I am sure about for the future, I believe that all of them have the possibility of 10x in the very long run (10 years) so I will keep on investing into them.

Obviously you could make a decision based on the rank and the drop, like SOL and Dot had bigger falls than anything else in top 10 and they are still good enough to be top 10 so why not invest into those as well? I would understand that logic too, but I rather stay a little more careful and go with the top ones since I do not have a rush to make a profit.

You can diversify if you want to and buy as much as you can but everyone should put bitcoin at their priority before buying anything else.

Diversifying dont mean that you cant just focus on bitcoin because in the end of the day you would still make out conversions from alts to bitcoin because this is where people do really mind off on accumulating
the main crypto of this market and the rest would be just depending on users or investors preference since there are still people who are really very optimistic toward some altcoins in the market
which i cant really blame them off considering on how high those coins had able to progress out then its no surprise that they would really be having that impression.

Every time the market goes dip, I always buy the strongest coins/tokens because i believe they can survive any time and they can really rise again when the market recovers, this is the safest thing to do during the down trend, you buy good projects though you can’t say if the dip is for short term only at least you have the good coins in your wallet. If you can still see a good one, better to buy more Bitcoin.
That’s the safest place to be with during the crash moment of the market, we can’t just buy any shitcoins during the bear market because they can die easily and you might lose everything if you bought shitcoins.

Though Bitcoin is not the only option, you can also buy other top altcoins and hold until it rise again, many earns a lot of money from this strategy, when there’s  fear in the market many are still greedy to buy, so which side are you?

Diversifying is about expanding your money into several assets that you want. There are a lot that have been looking at the volatility of altcoins too because they look positive lately and there's more gain on those.

But it's still always better to be at the stable side by owning bitcoin too.
