Title: GGG will have a fight this year! (BOXING)
Post by: Rufsilf on September 23, 2021, 06:27:59 AM
Looks like we can still see Gennadiy Golovkin fighting this year.

https://i.imgur.com/dRYaVdb.png

This is the article that says he is going to fight this year.

Gennadiy Golovkin and Ryota Murata agree to December 28th unification in Japan
16

Golovkin holds the IBF middleweight title, Murata the WBA (https://www.badlefthook.com/2021/9/22/22688408/gennadiy-golovkin-next-fight-ryota-murata-agree-december-28-unification-japan-boxing-news- 2021)

Quote
Gennadiy Golovkin’s long-brewing unification match with Ryota Murata is right at the finish line. Mike Coppinger reports that the pair have agreed to meet on December 28th in Kobe, Japan “and are simply waiting for DAZN to sign off on the bout.”

Per Coppinger, Golovkin’s (41-1-1, 36 KO) long stretch of inactivity came about due to “a battle with the platform connected to its expectation that [Canelo] Alvarez and Golovkin would fight a third time.” “GGG” has fought just twice in the last 24 months, narrowly edging out Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the IBF middleweight title and subsequently defending it with a December 2020 rout of Kamil Szeremeta.

WBA champion Murata (16-2, 13 KO) is coming up on two years out of the ring himself. His 2019 campaign saw him decisively avenge a loss to Rob Brant with a two-round mauling and beat down Canada’s Steven Butler soon after.

GGG fought last year, so in this scheduled fight if it happen, he will be inactive for over a year.
I hope this is not his last fight, as though is not getting any younger, many are still hoping he would fight Canelo Alvarez one more time.

Ryota Murata is not a popular boxer, only had 16 fights (https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/657422) while he loses of that fights.

This fight will be in Japan, so it's good for Ryota Murata as he is in his home-court advantage, but I doubt it will help him win because GGG will not make him last 12 rounds, most probably a KO win by GGG will be witnessed in the fight day.

I'm just impressed by the promoter of the fight as they also consider bringing the fight to Japan and Asians would be happy with that.

This reminds me Floyd Mayweather vs Tenshin Nasukawa fight, were Floyd just flew to Japan to have an exhibition fight, that more looks like a sparing. That evening Floyd has earned 9 millions for 2 minute boxing against a kickboxer. GGG fight is going to be the same - it is all about money.

This is different because it's a professional fight, but we know who will win already since GGG is a great boxer and he could KO a boxer that is not on his level. I don't know about his opponent as he is not popular, I was thinking that at this point of GGG's career, he should be fighting big fights.

Just make a good show and I won't mind that it's all for money, I mean that's been the thing for boxing for a long time and I think that the money that they get from this, they deserve it as much because they've worked hard to go to the top.

I think that kind of inactivity is what could make or break the career again. Like how it will become a momentum to get back at being one of the biggest stars in boxing. He is going 40 years old next year so I think he really needs to have a fight soon. Who ever wins this next fight would have a great opportunity the following year.

If GGG don't want to have pauses in his career, why don't he pick someone stronger than Murata. He could fight same fighters Canelo has beaten recently. Like Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders or Daniel Jacobs. These guys are on top places in the boxing ratings, while Murata is not in the rating at all.

Hmm also i am happy and grateful for every opportunity to see GGG fight again i also have to say that i am pretty sure that the main reason for this fight is the money. The japanese will probably pay a huge amount to GGG and his team to come to japan and fight one of their fighters. Looking at murata and his stats i think that would have been way stronger fighters out there that could have tested GGG way harder than murata. On the other hand, Golovkin is already 39 years old and i can't really blame him if he wants to make some nice money at the end of his career. I wonder though if this also indicates that he will not go for some big fights in the future anymore?

GGG is still undefeated. I wish they would wipe that "loss" and "no contest" to Canelo off his record.

Mixed martial arts in japan exploded back when Kazushi Sakuraba was in his prime. They hosted events at saitama super arena that consistently drew crowds of around 50,000.

Japan has tried many times to promote another japanese combat sports star into being the next Sakuraba.

They did it with the Tenshin Nasukawa vs Floyd Mayweather "exhibition" fight. I guess they're trying again with Ryota Murata.

It is not only a business thing. Japan's population and birth rates are declining. There could be a concerned segment of the population that wants to encourage japan to be a little more manly. Who views combat sports as a path to accomplish this. Japan could also be threatened by china atm. And so they need to encourage the warrior spirit of their people to prepare for potential future conflicts and wars which could lurk past the horizon.

We don't know the reasons for pauses or hiatuses in his career but you're right, maybe a bout or two against some fighters that's famous right now to stay relevant and at the same time make some more money.

One of my favorite famous boxers GGG.
He is undefeated and considering a stronger boxer and he is a middleweight champion and ranks #7 on TBRB's pound-for-pound list.
But why his opponent is Murata seems a weak fighter to me challenging on the beast. Good luck Murata.

From his smile, GGG has its own characteristics. Despite the advantages he had, it was clear that his opponent would not really hold out. This is quite an entertaining event where we can watch the undefeated champion bounce back in the boxing ring. Maybe I bet that Murata only lasted 5 Rounds.

Not sure if you have seen the second fight between GGG and Canelo. But GGG lost that fight, although it is very controversial result.

I never heard of Murata, probably this is just a get busy fight for GGG, he has a contract and promoters need to honour this one to at least give him one fight a year. In any case, if Murata is coming out of a 2 year hiatus, then I don't expect him to pull an upset against GGG, even if GGG is nearing 40 years old.

The only fighter who beat GGG was Canelo but as you said, I agree that it's a controversial one as the result is in a split decision. His opponent now does not have a lot of experience in big fights, and at his age, GGG could still dominate here. I hope it will not look like an exhibition fight because he is just fighting an unknown boxer.

^ No one knows for me even though GGG is a good fighter but the chances are 50/50.
Just like what happened in Manny Pacquiao and Yordenis Ugas's fight, we thought that was easy for Pacquiao to fight Ugas but unfortunately, it is a victory for Ugas in the end which he is the underdog. The same on this fight, GGG probably has better odds but we cannot be sure that there is accuracy on the result that he will always win.

Comparing of with GGG official record of 41W(36KOs) - 1 Loss, then even them would really know on whose the advantage on here on just basing up with experience and skills.

Its true that Ryota isnt really that much that popular as a japanese fighter aside from Inoue but this would be a good sparring fight for GGG. :D

It thought or have that first impression that this has to be an another exhibition fight.

Looking at Murata's professional record, this shouldn't be ignored. But we're all for GGG, isn't it?

Everyone loves GGG and this is likely that we're all speculating that this match is for GGG already.

No, that's a very different case, Manny was supposedly planning to fight Errol Spence Jr, all his preparations are for that kind of fight. However, in the last minute, Spence had an injury and Ugas step up and was a replacement. So they are back to 0 training and preparing for Ugas and I think this is a big factor for a Manny lost.

But in GGG case, if he has an opponent already then all his mental and preparation will be in place so I'm not expecting any upset by Murata.

GGG deserves more than this. He deserves bigger fights with boxers with huge names if ever he's planning to quit. It's better to quit on his field when he has planted a good name and history. He's one of the favorites so I'm hoping that he would have more fights in the future.

Murata is very popular in Japan. They could easily sell out a stadium with this fight. It all depends on what Covid precautions will look like. They might have the fight in a smaller arena. The fight is around the New Year holiday which is when they have a lot of big fights in Japan.

I think this is an evenly matched fight. GGG is past his prime and gets hit a lot. Murata has the perfect style to go toe to toe and make it an exciting fight which I expect to be a war.

At 39, GGG has had such a stellar career and in my own opinion should be heading for retirement after his next fight for two reasons. First, any loss at this time will not look good on his over 20years of impressive boxing career record. Second, you don't wanna be in the ring when you are over 35 years. There's a strong inverse correlation between age and a boxer's health. Although, the middleweight division has some top fighters that are yearning to get in the ring with GGG at this time, i'd say he should just do a last get fight, get win as money retirement and move on to something else.

He has a good knock out percentage winning 13 of his 16 wins via knock out but I have not seen him fought a big name in boxing and because of this he'll have a hard time-fighting GGG's unorthodox style, he needs to come out with a Canelo like performance to keep up with GGG power and speed, it's very unfortunate that while Canelo is fighting top fighters, GGG is not getting a huge fight so he can prepare himself in case there's a trilogy between him and Canelo.

While Ryota Murata is a decent fighter on his own merit, I don't think there will be much contest when he's matched against Golovkin. Not to disrespect Murata or anything, but I think his experience isn't enough to outclass and outmatch Golovkin's tenure on the ring. Still, this could be a fight that we're waiting to watch. A refresher, I must say, as we will see a relatively-new fighter square it off against an experienced warrior in the ring. It's exciting to see how Murata will handle himself against the likes of GGG.

Not to disrespect, of course, you are just telling the truth I also have the opinion that Murata's experience is not enough to counter GGG experience and power, Golovkin still has what it takes to beat anyone in the ring, promoters should give Golovkin to fight Canelo again, they are the only fight of both fighters that challenge their boxing skill, Canelo has been beating champions while Golovkin is facing unknown fighters, where's the justice here.

This is good news, the pandemic has been terrible for everyone but athletes that were at the end of their careers are really suffering, after all GGG is not getting any younger and even if I think he is still quite good at the same time there is no denial that some of his abilities are slowly diminishing due to his age and the brutal nature of the sport, just as you I wish this is not his last fight, but if it is I hope he gets to walk away from boxing with a victory.

This should not be a problem for GGG, the quality of his opponent below the quality of the opponents he beat in his previous fight. We all long to see a trilogy of GGG and Canelo, but I think this will not happen anymore as eventually, GGG will retire soon, at 39 years old, he is already good to retire if he will not get big fights after this fight.

I agree with your opinion, Pacquiao I don't think he can be compared, GGG has been loved for a long time and apart is always a favorite, whoever he can fight with can give a great show, I do not deny that a fight against Pacquiao would give him a great leap to life. fame and he would return to the ring with all his strength, especially if he achieves a victory, I hope the promoter manages to take advantage of this moment, many of us are happy to see GGG again, but we want high-level fights.

But since there's already an agreement, fans will be excited again to see him in the ring.

I'm hoping too for one last time that he will face again Canelo. Should be done quickly by next year.

Not familiar with the Japanese guy but experienced-wise, GGG has the upper hand. Their age is not that gap so we should not take age as one of their disadvantages. They are now in their post-prime but still thinking they will give us action like playing on their prime especially Golovkin.

It's already confirmed that he will fight Murata I think the title should be changed now and put the name of the challenger which is Murata.

Yes, I agree with that as a proper format for any boxing match threads here.

Somehow a fair treatment for both parties and not just because GGG will return to the ring. :)

Perhaps the middleweight division is not laden with talents as compare to 168 lbs wherein Canelo has a lot of good challengers. As far as I know, the only good name in 160 lbs is one of the Charlo brothers, so hopefully we might see a unification bout between him and GGG. However, Murata although not a household name is a good boxer as well. And it seems that GGG will travel to Japan to bring the fight to Murata's hometown? So let's see how good GGG is against fighting in "unruly" crowd.

Many boxing fans are hoping that the match between Canelo and GG will push, many people feel it's an unfinished business, GGG should move up to challenge Canelo I don't think Canelo will go down to challenge GGG, Canelo is lording the Super middleweight while GGG only has the IBF version of the middleweight, he should unify all belts to show that he is still the best in the middleweight.
I expect Golovkin to beat Murata, I hope GGG will not suffer like what Joshua suffered on this fight.

There's no question about GGG's desire for a rematch to Canelo. It's just that Canelo already put an end to the discussion that he is not interested in the rematch. If that's the case then fans won't be seeing a trilogy match. I don't know what Canelo is thinking but for me, a final fight against GGG is necessary to close their chapter.

But some analyst says that it's possible to happen next year: https://www.boxingnews24.com/2021/09/golovkin-returns-in-december-loeffler-says-canelo-vs-ggg-3-possible-in-2022/

Back to topic, currently browsing some of Murata's highlights. No offense but I don't know how he can keep up with the fighting phase of GGG.

Looks like we can still see Gennadiy Golovkin fighting this year.

GGG fought last year, so in this scheduled fight if it happen, he will be inactive for over a year.
I hope this is not his last fight, as though is not getting any younger, many are still hoping he would fight Canelo Alvarez one more time.
It is true that Gennady Golovkin is not getting younger as he is 39 years and i would like to see the trilogy between Canelo Álvarez and GGG because both the fights were beautiful and both the fights were really close and i liked the war and both Canelo and GGG are probably the best boxers out there in the world.

I would like to see him return this year and the opponent is rumored to be Ryota Murata, but we are yet to get the official announcement whether they signed the contract or not but the word out is that they will be probably fighting in Japan.

It's not an attractive fight to watch because of both fighter's inactivity, there's already an agreement but no contract signed yet, DAZN is not giving him a good fight lately just look at the fighters he fought under DAZN, they are nothing compared to what Canelo fought and will be fighting I guess Golovkin is into retirement he is taking easy fights now compared to the past.

Quote
Murata is essentially the same type of no-name opponent Golovkin has been fighting since he signed with DAZN in 2018. In three fights since inking with DAZN, Golovkin has fought these guys:

Steve Rolls
Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Kamil Szeremeta
Golovkin vs. Derevyanchenko turned out to be a good fight, but GGG’s matches with Rolls and Szeremeta were a waste of time.

I believe this match Ryota Murata will be a huge underdog here since he's not famous and less experience. Judging by his record, Ryota Murata is a hard worker person. He lose from Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam but the rematch he win, he also lose from Rob Brant but the next rematch he win, he's proving revenge is real.

No doubt IMO GGG will win in this match, if GGG's win... will there's a rematch and Ryota Murata repeat his history?

Two years ago, I would have loved to watch GGG fighting against Canelo. But now? Golovkin is getting near to his retirement and I don't think that he's in peak form as he was in 2017 and 2018 (when he had the two bouts against Canelo). On the other hand, Canelo is in peak form right now and for him there is no reason to agree to a fight against GGG. Maybe he'll wait for a couple of years and agree to the trilogy fight. Or maybe he will just ignore it. In brief, my guess is that even if there is a trilogy fight, that may not be competitive. Do we really want a lopsided fight?

that is, if GGG will agree a re-match if he wins. he's already 39, so in case the re-match will happen, he's already at 40. can he follow the steps of pacquiao, still actively fighting at the age of 40? because if he announces retirement after this fight with murata, then we may not see a re-match anymore. or another fight with canelo.
i guess, that is for us to see after his fight with murata.
and if this bout doesn't push thru, eubank jr is ready for GGG, according to this article (https://www.the-sun.com/sport/3668246/chris-eubank-jr-gennady-golovkin-saunders/). because for some unexpected events, covid reason is usually the culprit of postponing or cancelling a fight.

It depends on how this fight will go, if it will end in a controversial decision, then probably we will see some rematch, but if not, the GGG will have to move on as he will retire soon and he must get big fights before he retires. I'm not anymore expecting a trilogy fight with Canelo, but any fighter that could at least give a good challenge with GGG is fun to watch, can you suggest names?

Lol, it is very obvious to him that in this fight he is very underdog in this match, what do you think are the possible odds on this?
I know very well about GGG but in Ryota Murata, I dont know much about this dude and I think he is not even popular as we expected. But dont be too confident, by luck, what if Ryota Murata will win. Very exciting with this fight and we hope there is a schedule or announcements regarding them.

Being inactive for over a year is not really an issue. It's the usual rest period of a veteran boxer and we are in a pandemic situation that's why some fights are hard to arrange because of restrictions and event venue protocols. Before we think of a trilogy with Canelo, GGG should pass and defeat first Murata and see if his power is still there. Canelo is not looking forward to a rematch with GGG but in case we saw the latter still as explosive as before, he can call out Canelo once he won his upcoming fight in December.

Nice to see GGG again. That will be exciting to watch.

Yes the last two years many sporting events where delayed and some of the best fighters are not even fighting as they were not getting the opponents due to country restrictions and other sanctions imposed by respective governments to fly abroad and if not i am sure we would have already seen GGG fighting. I am a big fan of his fighting style and i would like to see him face Canelo once again before his retirement as he is getting older and my bet is on GGG when he faces Murata.

If in case there will be an upset, though the likelihood is low. Will GGG announce his retirement or will he ask for another fight before he retires? But I am guessing, GGG will be heavy favorite here once odds are out. But this year, we have seen several upsets and the latest was Joshua vs. Usyk.

Then there's probably a pattern in this one, either he has to lock on the fighter first and experience their power to gauge it but it's not enough in 1 match so he goes back for a 2nd match to get revenge, pretty cool fighter if you ask me, Murata is like a revenant. Regarding the fight, it's not unlikely that the rematch might go in favor with Murata but it can still go the other way, it's not like his record is half losses and half wins due to rematch wins.

Finally a fight for this great boxing talent. It has been a pretty long year since he last had a fight against the undefeated Szeremeta. I don't understand why Golovkin has to be kept inactive for a year. He is not getting any younger anymore. He is now approaching 40. He should be having at least a couple of fights in a year.

Against, Ryota Murata, I think Golovkin can easily make his way for a unified championship. After this, GGG and Canelo should be negotiated.

I thought the same but we cannot compare this guy to that fight because both of them are not the same due to their popularity. I think GGG will not get that much for this fight but I'm pretty sure he will dominate the unknown Japanese guy like he mostly did to his stronger opponent. I just wish not to see such kind of fight like that of Floyd where the drama was so obvious. It was not a fight rather is just some quick show as usual.

Keeping Golovkin inactive is not a good decision. I don't know if the decision is taken by the federation or Golovkin himself wanted to be out of fighting, but whatever it is, it is great news that he will be fighting again. He along with his fighting ages like a fine wine. He still fights like he is 25 or 30 years old. Although he is nearing the end of his career because he is already 39 years old, but hopefully we will get to see him fight for some more time before he really says goodbye to his gloves.

A trilogy that most fans love to see. Maybe now Alvarez will take the fight and again prove that he really earned that match.

GGG should have this chance since Alvarez technically wins against him once, if he managed to win just in case they meet again.
Probably a great way to have another match for the last time before ending his career for retirement, win or lose.

GGG is one of the few boxers that i do like not only on being a good boxer but also as a humble kind of fighter but could really give out good fight.Yeah just like Manny Pacquiao this guy do fight like not being an aged one.
I dont know in regarding on this fight if it was been a mandatory or it was a self decision but its good to see it back because its been a while to see him again on the canvass.
39 years of age is still that capable and it still soon that he would hang up his gloves.

I doubt it was Golovkin's decision himself that he will be away from the boxing ring for a year. It was probably due to one failed negotiation after another. That was really a poor strategy to have the guy waiting for a whole year.

I hope they will win in their respective matches and meet again. Both boxers deserve it. The whole fandom of boxing deserves it too. But if there's somebody who wishes to do away with a rematch, it would be Canelo.
