Pancakeswap is built on the Binance blockchain, which allows you to quickly swap coins on the Binance blockchain. Pancakeswap is distinct due to its minimal transaction fee, and Binance blockchain transactions are simple and quick.
I just read in the news that some scammers took the time to construct a bogus app on Google Play with the sole intention of scamming individuals using the app. Which I also examined, and I'm convinced it's a fraudulent app based on user's reviews. Scammers will be able to see your private key whenever you download the fake app and try to steal your fund. Seriously, we just have to be very careful about the App we download now, and the websites we visit, because scammers are trying everything they can to defraud people. Quote Three Fake PancakeSwap Apps Flood Google Play Store With 12K+ Downloads A Redditor has drawn the attention of the crypto community to three fake mobile apps for Binance Smart Chain-based decentralized exchange PancakeSwap mobile applications found on the Google Play Store. The Redditor named u/R_PH noted that he came across the applications on the popular Android app store while checking some updates. Shocked that he may have missed the official release of the mobile version of the popular BSC-based exchange, the Redditor did research, which showed that scammers had created the apps in order to steal unsuspecting victims’ private keys. Fake PancakeSwap App Gaining Traction A quick search on Google Play Store confirmed that three fake PancakeSwap apps have been live on the platform and are gradually gaining traction. The hackers succeeded in stealing users funds through their private keys. The reviews contain different horrible tales of users complaining that they lost thousands of dollars a few minutes after providing their private keys. u/R_PH has called on the cryptocurrency community on Reddit to join other users in reporting the application as a scam, before it wrecks more havoc. It is worth noting that PancakeSwap does not yet have a mobile application and all its functions are still web-based. Fake Crypto Apps Becoming Popular The practice of scammers creating cryptocurrency-related applications and uploading them on popular app stores is becoming more common these days. Coinfomania reported a similar development about popular Ethereum-based decentralized exchange Uniswap late last year. Per the report, hackers had uploaded their version of the exchanges’ app, stealing users’ keys and gaining unrestricted access to their funds. Similarly, a crypto user said that he lost 17.1 Bitcoin (BTC) to a fake Trezor wallet application he downloaded from the Apple Store. Google is Not Helping Matters The unfortunate incident caused many people to wonder how the malefactors were able to pass through Google’s advance security procedures to have the app listed for weeks, while continuing to cause users’ losses. Despite calls by users to take down the app, the application is still relaxing comfortably on the platform, with its number of downloads increasing by the day. Staying Safe While it is not in users’ power to stop these illicit applications from finding their way to popular app stores, users are advised to take adequate measures to keep themselves safe. Before downloading crypto-related applications, it is advisable you conduct due diligence, including researching whether there is an app for the service you want to use. You should also take note of the number of downloads the app has gathered so far, as well as what existing users are saying about the application via the review section. I use Pancakeswap but I do trade on it through Trust Wallet by connecting on the DApp. I should think that's the easiest way to go about trading on Pancakeswap. These shortcuts are legit and do not take you away from the main site. Again, anyone trying to download an exchange or token app should always (I mean, always) go through the coinmarketapp/Coingecko site to get the authentic website of the project and route through that. They were using without even talked to the someone who know more than those people who got scammer. It must be careful for beginners never download the pancakeswap application except by accessing the original URL site. We can't do anything to those people who got scammed since they don't really do their own research first and I believe they just heard this pancakeswap to someone or must have read it somewhere. Of course, scammers would use this opportunity since pancakeswap had been widely used nowadays. But newbies will easily be fooled by these if they don't know anything. It becomes much more easier for scammers to promote fake domains using google by just paying few pennies for ads then they will automatically appear in top of the first page google search. How many times should users report fake links to google? Does there any way to report the automated Google's algorithm itself? If it continues in this way, i won't be surprised see more victims in addition to the appearance of more scammers as well.Fortunately, that fake website was down after several reports from users who was victims connecting their wallets to it. I think the blind trust thing is the bigger issue here. I was in that blind trust category before. Until last year I thought every app on Playstore was screened and found to be genuine. I could imagine if one of those two fake domains appears in the top 1st page google search as a mirror for official PancakeSwap platform, how many victims you expect to have in just one or two days? there are some certain principles i have set for myself before engaging into any DEX to swap any token listed on it, first i only trade on pancakeswap using my Trustapp to connect to pancakeswap directly, then also if swapping from poocoin i connect to it through trustapp as well. Sad to inform you that by checking the info page for the fake app, there are thousands of downloads. It's always (in most of cases) an issue with Google standards which doesn't just allow hackers to list fake apps in Google Play store, but they are also able to promote it in Google Search first page by just paying the fees. There are no worries with apple store as they have a solid security policy, however we should always check and verify because even we trust app store, we still don't know how the hackers can compromise the system. A rule of the thumb I follow whenever I want to download any app is to go through their official website. If it's not listed there, then it most likely does not exist. In case I have a doubt, I ask through their official social media handles. This should help anyone, especially a newbie. Just using it or opening it through browsing in the chrome or any of the legit browser anyway. This is too risky and one mistake all your assets can be steal for sure in the end.
