Because you don't have enough merit. To be a full member, you need to have 100 merits. It has been a quite long time since merit has been introduced in the forum but you aren't aware of that at all. Quite strange! You can find more information here-

Don't try to farm merit. That is frowned upon around here.

You should put effort into your posts, and make interesting posts. If you do, you should receive merit over time.

I hope OP is just a gamer and is using a gamer phrase.  Is that the case, OP?  PrimeNumber7 is right, you can't "farm" merit here, only earn it by making posts that stand out amongst all the crap.

Why is it important to you to rank up, anyway?  Your signature doesn't look like it's advertising, so are you looking to get into a campaign or something?

Probably but the main thing I can think of is avatar. I recalled I have different feeling when I can wear an avatar.

Another time I got good feeling when I ranked up from Full member to Senior Member and can wear a signature code with different effect. From Sr. member to Hero and Legendary member, I don't have such feeling because signature display is almost the same.

Yeah, my tip to you is – Just keep writing the way you did to get the few merits you got to this point and you will get more. Merit farming is frowned at here. Keep off it.

Op, your question though is valid but appears artificial to me. You have been in the forum since January. So, I refuse to believe that you are aware that a user requires 120 activities to rank up to full member and yet not aware that the user also requires 100 merits.

wow, it looks like I have to farm merit now.

any tips?
While some people are advising you not to farm merits, I am yet to understand what merit farming is and how it is done.
Is it by creating alt accounts? If yes, that is account farming. Also, how will creating more accounts accumulate merits to the existing account?

The way I understand it, a user creates multiple alt accounts and can send merits back and forth between them.
Imagine a scenario where I was on the forum before the launch of the merit system and I got airdropped merits on at least 2 of my accounts, I can create other alt accounts and send merit between them to raise the rank of all of them.

User A, B and C are part of a merit farm;
A sends 10 merits to B who now has 5 smerits that they can send to C, C now has 2.5 smerits to send and continue the cycle. If they are not merits sources and they did not have multiple legendary accounts at the start of the merit system, they would in out in no time.

I got the clue, but as you also noted that it would be possible only if the user received initial merit airdrop. I have heard about the merit airdrop, when it happened, did it also come with the expected smerits? Like if you are airdropped 200 merits, will you automatically have 100 smerits? If no, it means it cannot farm the merit.

Again, I think the merit farm will only work for a merit source as you noted. Someone that has 100+ activities but below 50 merits will find it more difficult to come up with quality posts if created another account. Infact the more account he creates the more shit his posts will become.

No. When the merit system was kicked off, merit and smerit distributions are different. It does not work with the ratio of 1 merit : 0.5 smerit like we see per rules of the merit system. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0)

All Legendary members got 1000 Merit but none of them got 500 sMerit (airdropped) and the max sMerit they got is 400.

Please see the formula given by theymos
The exact formula was:

Code:
yearActivity = activity in the last ~year, max 378
freeMerit = the merit (not sMerit) you started with
modifier =
  0.1 if member
  0.2 if full member
  0.25 if sr member
  0.35 if hero
  0.4 if legendary

return (yearActivity/378) * modifier * freeMerit

So the most you could get is if you were a Legendary who maxed out your activity points in the last year, in which case you would get 1 * 0.4 * 1000 = 400 sMerit.

Note that I later made an adjustment giving 500 extra merit to some hero members, but no extra sMerit was given here.

I'll probably publish a dump of the initial sMerit at some point.

other members might find it off-putting when you said you'll have to "farm merits now". anyway, you could "farm"(earn) merits if you can consistently post high-quality posts where other members find them useful or informative. you'll have to put at least an effort into what you do if you want to increase your rank here in the forum.

I did not state that. Not all farmers are shit posters, some contribute to the forum constructively and get merits for that, they can now circulate that merit around their several alt accounts .

Again, I think the merit farm will only work for a merit source ad you noted. Someone that has 100+ activities but below 50 merits will find it more difficult to come up with quality posts if created another account. Infact the more account he creates the more shit his posts will become.
Being a merit source would definitely be an added advantage, but it is not the only scenario this would work in.
Also, farms are not always run by the same person, it could be done by a group.

Merit farming can be considered as one of the abuse of the system that people will not like. The OP seems to get the right advice on how he should be able to earn merit I agree that he should make a post that stand out among the other crap post on the forum as mentioned by The Pharmacist. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5364313.msg58117248#msg58117248) I don't think that it will be difficult for him considering currently the OP has managed to get 39 merit since January. The OP also has a good reputation as a trader and maybe it can help him to grow faster if he has a lot of time on the forum.

The Merit system was designed to reduce spam. You look like a real user who uses this forum as it's intended, so I don't think you deserve to be held back by a lack of Merit.

I'll take this slightly out of context again:
undoubtedly some people got screwed by this, and if they have decent posts, by all means, give them the 250 or 500 merit that they need to rank-up.
I've Merited some of your posts.

At times when your activities reach or up to 120 activities per say and you have not  reach a full member, you don't have to worry about it, what you just needs is to make a two or three post's and after sometimes the position of new rank will display in your profile because all the ranks hierarchy is been programs with the merit earned and activities, so all combined together to carry on a same function in order to bring the current position out, i think we don't need to panic if it happens to time before reflection, because the statistics of ranks activities and merits of different positions has already implemented and program.

And now the OP has managed to move up the rank to become a full member after several merit source submitted merit in some of his post. Congratulation to the OP on his rating increase. Some of the board so far have been a bit neglected by merit source and users will have to be a bit more patient to get merit but it is still possible to make requests on existing thread if users want report good posts that don't get merit here [self-moderated] Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source. You seem to have a winning formula, so the next time you need merits for the next rank, try again to pretend you don't know how the system works. Congratulations on your promotion ;)

Other lower rank members might be thinking that's this formula is going to work again but it's not going to help you too so work hard on your posts  ;D. This magic works once in long time or say in rare cases.

But these 2 days were lucky for the @OP as he gained 68 merits(64% of total) in these two days from high rank members and helped him to push the rank aside from 32 merits in the @OP post and it is because he has some quality posts also on his side.

So now keep in mind how the merit system works because now you know it and congratulations on your full member rank.

Not being a shitposter is not enough to earn Merit: your posts also need to be read by someone with sMerit.

it is because he has some quality posts also on his side.
No magic involved :)

It may or may not take some time to achieve new rank on the forum if you are quality poster and that's the true magic you have in your hand.Like the @Op has some effective posts on his side that pays him back in form of reaching full member and you sprinkle some merit shower on them which he deserves. The good posts will see merit magic on them.

Wow, Thanks Guys!

Congratulations on achieving your new rank and keep up the good work because increasing rank means some kind of responsibility on our side which is to make forum a better place for exchanging knowledge and bring up some healthy conversation.Best wishes man.
