Last night when my phone turned on my metamask showed no coins on the BNB side.  This happened to me once before and I am totally dejected.  I was donating blood just to have a life savings and I could be out on the street.  I put the addy in Bscan and the coins still show.  I didn't click on any scam site.  The BNB says 50 cents or whatever but the many little coins I have doesn't show at all!! emailng metamask is useless.  I am totally deflated.  Please tell me someone recognizes this and has a fix to it.  I shouldn't have to add custom coins backs manually every time metamask decided to upgrade? I don't know any other reason this happened.  thank you

Well first off,  you have to be sure the network of those tokens is added to metamask network by going to setting on metamask mobile (if you are using mobile) then click add network, like if it is smart chain, matic mainnet, avalanche  network or which other network the project may belong, then you have to add Token by adding the contract address of the token, if you have done this basic step and the problem still persist then you need more technical help.

In the first place mate, do you really know 100% of how to use Metamask app? Second, did you double check the mainnet
of the Metamask if it is set into BSC, due to there are some option where you can set it up at the Metamask like Matic, Ethereum,
Avalanche and etc. And did you add the coins you are talking about at the Metamask in the custom? if not, you won't see it for real
of course.

Try using Metamask on a PC or other device such as a Laptop which you then insert the wallet into, and see if the same thing still appears or already has the changes you want, because honestly, I've never had a problem with metamask since I used it and I've been using Metamask for a long time, so it looks a little weird to me.

First you need to check whether the address have the balance or not by entering your address on any explorer then if you found the balance is still there but now showing in the meta mask then its due to sync error or if your balance is missing then someone accessed your address by phishing attack.

I think it's just a bug of metamask, you don't need to worry as long as your token is still visible in BSCScan.
My advice is to import your private key into a trustwallet or other wallet that supports multiple tokens without having to manually add custom tokens.

What you said is also a good solution for the OP to try, because as long as the coins and assets in the bscscan are still there, no problems will occur and there is no need to create unnecessary panic because the assets are also not lost.

If you have checked it on BSCscan and your coins were still in your wallet and then you must not feel worry. You can try to add custom manually. metamask needs to be added manually because it's no the same like the mobile wallet which already supported all of coins in the binance chain without needed to add custom contract manually. Just try to get the contract of your tokens from the bscscan and then you will be seeing it. You can also try to check it again on bscscan to make sure whether you coin was still in your wallet or not.
I hope that you can use this and then you will able to see your coin again. metamask can't load custom contract automatically and you must need to add it manually.

If your coins are still on that address when you check it on any BSC explorer, you don't have to worry at all. Just be calm because it's not gone.

That's what I always do when my tokens are not appearing on the list.

If you see it on Bscan than you are fine. Metamask is just an app that helps you manage your assets but its not the place where your tokens are stored. So if blockcian says your funds are here, means they are here.

1- check if you are on correnct network
2- check if your tokens are imported

If it does not work, make sure that you have your seed (private key) stored in safe place and reinstal metamask and do step 1 and 2 once again.

There must be something wrong if you upgraded the app and your unlisted token get removed on the list. I think you need to file a report or ask an inquires to them about your case.

I believe what can you do as of now to mitigate that is to try activate the Token Detection feature. You can see what it is about here (https://metamask.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015489031-How-to-add-unlisted-tokens-custom-tokens-in-MetaMask). Since you are using mobile wallet, you just need to simply go to the menu > Experimental > tick the Token Detection button.

calm down ,I often experience problems like that on mobilephones check the internet network ,restart your mobilephone ,check the playstore maybe there is the latest update regarding the metamask application ,if everything has been done carefully and it's still like that then login on your pc ,metamask mobile application crashes frequently

You could track it on BSC scan, where your assets go. It could be you use the wrong network so the tokens not showing, or other reason. But you could track the transaction history from your BSC scan. It's not going anywhere as long as no one transfer it to another wallet account, you just have to find the way how to show the token.

First, i have added hundreds of custom coins on two diffrent accounts on the Eth and bnb side.
i know how to add the bsc smart chain and custom tokesn.  made many, many trades.

I have an iphone 10 and mac laptop twoyears old.

Should I use firefox for the browser to those in the know? either on the phone or laptop?

As long as my seed phrase and password were not taking together, nobody can get these coins, yes?

I see both lists on the bscan right now, though I can't access them.  I just got up after the phone crashed last night.  Thank you for helping me guys :)

I've never had any issue with metamask wallet on my android phone, make sure your APN settings has no IP and port active though, this disturbs syncing on my phone and removing them makes the wallet and other apps on my phone works better

Please stay calm and share more information about your problem here, maybe someone will give you good advice if there is any mistake from you.
But in my opinion, this should be considered as a warning to you when you have left all your money on a place where you are not sure if they are safe. My experience with using personal wallets is not to use them for too long after a while.

If you have a lot of tokens, I believe using Metamask on your laptop is way a better option since it's easy to manage. And I believe keeping your fund on a mobile phone is more prone to be compromised.

I didn't quite get what you mean by "not taking together", but, yes, as long as your seed phrased didn't somehow get compromised, nobody can control your wallet.

Use it on your cellphone and on your laptop, it protects you from time to time if you experience the same thing when your cellphone falls and can't access the Wallet. So by backing it up is the best way so as not to lose your money. As my experience is to back up my wallet. Then keep the seed phrase in a non online record. Don't ever underestimate a seed phrase just because you remember it. I have lost $3000 worth of assets a few months ago because of this mistake. Always stay calm and don't panic. There will be many people here to help you.

the numbers just reloaded! apparently, metamask may have made an update? I am just letting people took it took almost 12 hours for the coins to be added back on, they were first zero, and then they came back on when the numbers loaded.  just a heads up that this happens, I am deeply releived.  thank you for the responses! :)

Glad you have your coins back safely,  perhaps metamask was doing an update during this period your coins disappear that's why they were not showing up, although I have not experience such but it is probably an update thing, problem shared is a problem solved (or half solved) they say, now that am aware of this, I won't be freaking out when I come across such in metamask.

YES! I did that out of respect because I know many people online one even emailed me he was ready to commit suicide because his coins disappeared.  I have many tiny coins so it may have taken longer for mine to reload but let others know this happens and it may not be a problem. :)

So are you saying that usually use MetaMask browser version and you logged into your mobile MetaMask and you were not able to view the coin that you already added. It is not a big deal, the problem is that you need to add the coins once again in the mobile version because the the coins you custom added in the browser version will not be automatically visible in the mobile version. As long as you have the coins while you search your wallet address in explorer everything is fine.

Actually, it also happens to me, but usually, I face this on polygon when Metamask sends me a message that there are some problems with showing a balance. But I don't worry as I know that it will be fixed within time. What is more, I can connect additional networks that have the same key of access, but you are to change the name of it like Polygon 2 when adding to your Metamask. I am not sure, but maybe it is possible also on BSC that you can switch to another chain in case of setback, just check chain link.

Don't worry, transactions in the wallet are open, if there are no transactions in BSCScan then all tokens will be safe, the easiest thing we do is try to exit and then log in again, usually the device memory is too full so we can't load the tokens we have, this is I have experienced when opening a wallet on an Trustwallet for Android.

For those who are commenting after, do endeavour to read through post before dropping your opinion, op already find a solution from his post above, it seems to be an update thing and now everything is back to normal, no need to quote the first post to make your comment.

The thing about metamask is it hosts other chains on it's platform so it's possible it could have reverted back to the Ethereum blockchain(should be the default chain), if not then it's just a matter of adding contract details of the coins you are expecting to find. And just to be certain your coins are there use a block explorer https://bscscan.com/ to check if your coins are there.

my advice, try to clean up the scam project that is linked to your BSC wallet address at
https://www.beefy.finance here you can check what transactions you have done and delete the transaction
if you don't feel like doing it.
secondly you can check on the bsc scan whether your bsc number still stores the tokens you have.
if you have made sure of all that, please add the smart contract manually in metamask. add sc airdrop or token you saved.

Metamask is too complicated for normal people to use. I suggest trading and using DeFi on Ref Finance on NEAR protocol. It's account based like Ethereum and BSC but it doesn't require metamask. All you have to do to use it is to log into your browser, just like how you log into gmail.

Just calm down,mate. Just make sure you are connected to the right contract address of those tokens on the binance smart chain. Do this for all the tokens and see if they appear on the metamask wallet. To get the correct contract address, just check the token page on bscscan and you will see it there or their website. I think OP's panic because he can't see his asset really teaches us that we need to be calm since metamask wallet isn't a 'real' wallet. Always make sure you have other means to check your balance like block explorer or something similar just to be sure. Cause if you don't have other means and are in panic mode, you will easily commit mistakes.

That's the thing about metamask, you are not really using it to make any changes, as long as you have your seed phrases that means that you could use the same thing somewhere else as well, you just need to put it in another place and you would be able to use that.

Your account on metamask doesn't mean that it is the only way that you could reach to your coins, if it looks on the scans then it means it is there and if you want to move it to somewhere else, the same exact thing could be open in MeW or some other place so that you could reach them, metamask is just the interface, it is not the actual wallet. People need to learn this so that they do not get scared when they can't reach it.

It's important that we don't panic right away, we can always check what's inside our wallet by simply checking the address in https://etherscan.io/, then the next step would be to access our account and if we are able to access it, then there should be no problem to worry about.
