Title: How good is the pcie extender
Post by: XUR_TIP on October 18, 2021, 08:36:41 PM
Have anyone used pcie extender with four usb to GPU connection? How active is it? Some are saying only two GPUs will work on the extender max, true or false?

You mean the 1 to 4 pcie splitters?
They work fine for me.

Have a couple of units with 2 of these for 8 gpus no issue.
Have seen others use 3 of them for 12 gpus.

it works great. now will you be able to use all the 4 slots ? depends mainly on your config cpu & motherboard. for what I understand it can be limited by the number of lanes still available in your system.

This depends entirely on your motherboard, for some they can only run two GPUs on a single pcie splitter and some can run 4 GPUs on them with no issues at all buh the splitter do works very well

Many miners speak very negatively about these splitters because they don't work on many motherboards.
Better to read about hardware compatibility before purchasing.
This splitter can be used on motherboards that have 6 Pci-e ports and only detect 4 or 5 video cards.

Strange 🤔 I know someone who used this splitter on a motherboard with just one 16x pcie slot and 1x pcie slot and the splitter works very well, he is able to use four cards on the motherboard

It varies…dpending on cpu and mobo chipset used.  But cost is low so i have several extra.  In most cases i can get to work no issue but i do have a couple of boards that simply refuse to see more gpus.  So it is one of those thing you have to actually try it in your specific setup.  Good news is no drivers or software to load. Either works or doesnt.

Some motherboards can be stubborn when trying to use pcie extender on them, they just won't work no matter what you do if you want to use them make sure your motherboard is new skool not old skool, few gaming mobo works well with pcie extender
