Title: Are indivisible coins a good idea?
Post by: tanks4playing on October 19, 2021, 02:08:03 PM
When we designed the tokenomics for the TANKS token, we wanted to do something different and fun.
We wanted the TANKS token to be like an arcade token, indivisible and with a finite supply. Would this make the token more valuable??
The more we spoke to people about it the less we were able to defend the choice.

In this medium article, we break down the considerations for divisibility of a currency and concluded it makes more sense to have a token which is divisible.

We'd really appreciate the views of the community here.

Is there any value in having an indivisible token - particularly a utility token where it's used to play a game.

I don't think it makes much of a difference since Bitcoin has "satoshi" to represent the smallest decimal. Even if it attracts users, I'm pretty sure there are a lot of similar coins out there with 2, 1, or 0 decimal places, for example, ecash (https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-cash-abc-rebrands-to-ecash-embraces-proof-of-stake-and-2-decimal-places). Some BTC wallet also have the option to display bits instead of the whole BTC.

Therefore, if you want to create token that can attract people, indivisibility or decimal places aren't something that you can sell/promote. It's not new, not interesting, thus you need something better than just numbering.
