Title: Starting fresh: "used" antminer for Bitcoin or brand new asic for Nervos ?
Post by: jereshi on October 27, 2021, 07:11:31 PM
So my business is almost dead and I have some capital unused, deciding to get into mining (I did some low scale GPU rig mining before)

I have a limited capital, around 8K. Electricity cost is 0.07$ here.

I can not make a final decision whether better of starting with two "used" S17, T17, or similar hashrate asics, overclock them and mine bitcoin
or
Get one new Goldshell CK5 and mine Nervos , this one with import taxes will end up 9000k

thanks for the advice!

If you take a look at the Mining Support (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=40.0) and the Hardware  (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=76.0)areas here you will see that the S17's are a piece of shit. Many folks have over 25% failure rates on them and over clocking them -- hell, over clocking ANY miner -- will just make them die faster.

Wrong area to ask about altcoin gear -- use the altcoin area of the Forum for that.

Im aware of S17 issue... but what if using immersion cooling method for it, would they function OK?
What about T17? Do they have same issues?

What about S19j pro? Does it worth the investment?

Hello OP, I'm kind of in the same boat, one of my businesses is on it's last legs so I'm liquidating some of the assets and with some left over equipment I will build an immersion cooling system and start a small farm. Right now I'm in an area where people are getting used miners direct from China and they are pretty inexpensive. My plan is to buy 20 S9's to start and the seller is willing to verify with me that they all work, I will immerse them and overclock, If one dies I will replace it. Sorry for the long post just letting you know I'm on the same path and wish you all the luck. I will probably start my own post to document my journey, and I will follow yours.

Maybe look for some s15 units they are more reliable.

I would think they will do well with good cooling.

I have three s15 units all working.
