Title: Creating a privacy coin?
Post by: dgaXdcboz on November 12, 2021, 12:20:14 PM
Is forking a coin like monero or bytecoin the only way to create a privacy coin? or is there some other blockchain? like erc-20 but for privacy coins

For example, check Crypton from Utopia P2P. I was especially surprised when it gained +50% to its value during 24 hours on inner decentralized no KYC exchange https://u.is/en/currencies.html It's a great addition that it can be mined in a green manner. And it's based on its own blockchain. I hadn't seen anything similar to that project yet.

If you can't create it yourself then forking is the way. But you aren't really "creating" anything of value, nor it should have value if you aren't bringing anything new to the table. Tokens on the blockchain aren't really privacy coins, they are just tokens. There aren't privacy smart contracts yet that allow creating natively private tokens, But Dusk Network is creating one. There's BEAM (https://beam.mw/) which as far as I've understood does what Ethereum does plus CryptoNote. That's probably what you're looking for.

Obviously not; the existence of those two reveals the opposite. One may make one from scratch.

There are probably lots, excluding the one I just mentioned.

You can get another privacy coin by forking monero and bytecoin, or any other privacy/ERC20 token as you have said.  But that’s not the only way that you can get a privacy coin. That these coins are existing is a proof that another privacy coin can also be created from scratch. So, it’s not a must that you have to fork any of these coins before you can get another new privacy coin.

Moreover, I believe that there are so many other privacy coins in the market, more than you would even imagine, but the thing is that most of them are not really that popular. Even monero and other ones like Zcash, you would hardly see anyone making use of any of these privacy coins these days. So it’s not really like people are going crazy for them or something like that.

You can create your own blockchain which can set to be completely anonymous and non traceable like Monero or Grin, for that all you need is enough knowledge about blockchain development and nodes but I want to express my opinion as well even the most reputed privacy coin isn't showing any sign of growth when other cryptos are going good so you can't expect a success in the short time like for next 3 years atleast.

Forking is a good way if you cannot do it yourself. However, I think you cannot make a valuable thing

I suggest making a dapp and having that dapp accept 0xMonero instead.

You can make even your bitcoin and other coins private as privacy is a feature that can be added to any blockchain. There are so called mixers that mix up all coins and it is not understandable then who is the owner of those coins. The most popular privacy platforms are  Tornado.Cash, Coinjoin. They break the correspondence of addresses at the entrance and exit of funds from the contract, and due to this, it is possible to achieve privacy.

no, if you want to create your own version of a privacy coin, you have to create it on a private blockchain. if you use a smart contract, it can't be called a privacy coin. it will just be an ordinary crypto coin. and it certainly requires a large development fund. but what are your goals for making privacy coins, such a concept is good but less popular if it's for a new project. So I figured without the funds, you wouldn't make it.
