Title: WTS 0.1 Casascius silver 2013, loaded, ungraded
Post by: tritonus on November 17, 2021, 03:18:58 PM
Hello everyone!

What's the current going price for a loaded 2013 0.1 silver?

Condition is good, it's still in the small plastic bag it came in.

I know this is a newbie account, so escrow would be a must. Is OgNasty still around here? I'm located in western europe.

Just trying to get a rough ballpark, will try to post pictures later. Who's interested?

I can't recall a loaded 0.1 being sold recently on the forum, but I could be wrong

There are a few threads for redeemed coins being sold recently, that's all I can find.

Interested also to see how much you get for this, good luck!

They were selling with quite a high premium, but aren't often offered here. If I remember correctly, there was a graded one sold a couple of months back for about 0.4BTC? Maybe somebody is better with the forum search than I am and can actually find the thread  ;)

For an ungraded one you could get about 0.2BTC if I had to guess..  ???

coco23 is right - one or the other cas silver coin has been sold here in the forum before
i bought my 0.1 cas silver coin here personally at an auction of minerjones - but these coins are very rare, that's right ;)

This is one of the most desirable Casascius, and as such they fetch a higher premium than any other.

They have sold for ~0.4 BTC pretty consistently. Given BTC is near its ATH, I’d expect the premium to perhaps even be more given the .5 and 1 BTC Casascius are simply out of reach financially for most collectors. This is very quickly becoming the only Casascius that even a die hard collector can remotely afford.

Highest premium of all the Cas' due to affordability and desirability.

This one went for 0.32 in 2018
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4537195.20

A user tried for 0.35 this year but no bidders.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5314268.0

You could auction at face value and find out what the current market value is. (I guess 2-2.5x)

Hey tritonus. Indeed I am still around here. The beauty of being passionate about something is that you can’t be torn away from it. :) Good luck with your sale and let me know if there’s anything I can do to assist you in the process.

Thank you everyone for your posts and dms, sorry if I didn't answer to everyone yet.

I think I'll go for an auction starting at 0.2 BTC. This could turn out pretty well I guess.

But first, some pictures. Took it out of the little plastic for the photos. I'll try to clean off the dust and fingerprints and post some high res pics in the coming days.

Please do not clean the coin... just use compressed air to blow off any artifacts.

Good suggestion, will try it, thank you.

I bought it from an online shop but can't find out which one.. did Mike himself have an online shop back in the days?

Ah good, yes I'll come back to your service once I want to start the auction. What are your fees?

I remember using your service with an old account of mine, sold some mining hardware in 2014 😊.

Sorry, my initial response was rude. The topic of valuations has come up many times over the years and this forum is the only place on earth where coin collectors discuss value in terms of multiples of face value. It’s weird and it never made sense. Do it if you like but… it doesn’t make sense!

IMO with fingerprints on it, the auction would be better off starting at 0.1 BTC, but I’ll be watching with interest to see how this goes regardless

Still the same 1% (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303281.0) as the last time you used me probably and welcome back.  :)
You should also leave feedback once you make deals on this forum so that you can easily find and point to past deals.  This will help ease concern amongst buyers.

You mean to tell me 1 BTC does not equal 1 BTC and the collector's value of these coins is based in USD?  Be careful, I've gotten negative trust feedback from ibminer for even suggesting such a thing.

I wouldn't start the auction at 0.1 BTC.  I think the last 2 of these coins I sold (somewhat recently) went for between 0.27-0.31 BTC if memory serves correctly.

I am less worried about my trust ratings since WoodCollector and his sock army flooded me with negative trust  ;D

IMO auctions with high starting bids are risky because they can damage the value of the coins on the resale market if no bids are received. Low starting bid leads to true price discovery. Just IMO  8)

These typically bring some of the highest premiums in the physical world. This coin would go for north of .3 I’m sure in an auction, or right at that. The higher loaded denom items are now priced out of the average Joe’s wallet affordability as Blue notes, which will drive the price and demand up for .1 tenths and lower denoms. High graded ones MS69-MS70 fetched around .4ish give or take in private sales I know of. Good luck with the sale!

100% agree with this, I try to always start loaded items at face value.  This also creates excitement and attention with early bids.  When someone bids once at a low price they are more likely to continue bidding.

Also, fingerprints and smudges.

Thanks again everyone for the replies.

I'm torn between starting an auction here, or on ebay..

I'm currently waiting for some compressed air, a capsule, and a case to arrive.

Ebay no longer allows the sale of loaded items as of 9/21, or around that timeframe. If you list there the listing will be removed and your account may be suspended  :-\

I would personally peel or keep it tbh… although 0.1 is probably also the only denom I would feel safe mailing anymore at current exchange rates.

Could you ban this user @Cyrus ?

Jeez - scams seem to be increasing rapidly. Report the post to admin - bottom right corner of message. Well done for spotting it too  ;)

Ah, thank you! Reported.

Yeah, on mobile the linktext looks correct, and when you follow the link, the suspicious part isn't really visible in the address bar. I noticed only after clicking, have to pay more attention.

Keep yeah…peel No!
Although you would make the few remaining more rarer, I would highly suggest you sell for a premium over peeling

Peeling a 0.1 BTC Casascius coin would be bordering on insanity. If there is one coin that still demands a hefty premium of more then 100%, it’s been shown to be this one. I wouldn’t even consider offers or even a listing price below 0.2 BTC. There’s just no reason for it.

Agree completely. I do understand peeling a brass Cas, but NOT a 0.1 BTC silver. You'll triple your BTC or more by not peeling.

Absolutely.

I'll start an auction on this sub as soon as I have the capsule and case (this or next week). The auction will last a week and start at 0.1 BTC. I would like to use OgNasty's escrow service. I'm a bit excited to see how high the connaisseurs are willing to bid.

Stay tuned.
