Title: Brave Rewards and Uphold.com Exchange: A Terrible Combination
Post by: StarKay on November 18, 2021, 03:36:10 AM
I started using Brave browser early last year to earn few BAT which I consider as passive income, I was not worried about withdrawal since Brave browser rewards is in Cryptocurrency and I assumed that I would withdraw by simply transferring the earnings someday to my own wallet when I get to the minimum withdrawal.

Now, after over a year of using Brave browser to both browse and also watch ads, it's time to withdraw and I was told to verify my wallet which will require me to open an account with https://wallet.uphold.com an exchange that is so unpopular that I have never heard of until this point.

I went to their platform to open an account since my BAT is now worth over $40, account was easily opened but verification was required to carry out any transaction. I had to submit pictures of my international passport, selfie and also details of my employment to be verified.

I got a mail that I have been verified and another mail that "We can't continue to over you an Account" after taking my personal information without specifying any reason for that.
I contacted support and their response was "Having carefully considered your appeal, we regret to inform you that your account remains closed. Please be aware that any new accounts you create may also be closed. Given we’re unable to disclose the reason for these reviews, or their outcome."

I hold Brave team responsible for this, how much is the earnings that AML/KYC is required and they claimed to be a privacy compliant company. The Brave team benefits for my work and refused to even have a support where community voice matters.

After a year of watching ads, Brave team got paid while I got nothing despite spending my money and time on their browser, that's unfair.

I am also a Brave browser though I have not yet opened any Uphold account since I still have to pass the minimum BAT needed to be able to withdraw money to the wallet by Uphold. Have you tried to reach Brave on this matter? Sad to see that the verification failed and there is no reason provided for their refusal to have you verified. Now, the best thing to do is maybe get someone in your household or even a friend and hand him/her your Brave account so that a new verification under a new name can be started with Uphold. Let's hope not many Brave users can have the same bad experience.

Brave doesn't really have customer support, they only have a community where no one bears responsibility.

Sad to see that the verification failed and there is no reason provided for their refusal to have you verified.
Actually the verification was successful, they sent an email to that effect. They just decided to withdraw there service without specifying the reason after stealing/collecting my personal information.

Let's hope not many Brave users can have the same bad experience.
Sadly many users have the same experience hence their poor ratings on trustpilot. I decided to make this post to create an awareness about this unfair practices from a supposedly reputable company.

It's unfortunatley you want to reveal a very personal identity which is quite risky for only $40.
As far as I know, there's been a lot of discussion about Brave browser and uphold which works really badly.
I think you should forget about your balance, because if brave browser really cares about its users they will also provide the option of withdrawing to a private wallet without having to use other parties like uphold.

I was not expecting a complaint because it's been a long time when the KYC requirement to receive BAT rewards has been announced and implemented. Did you not know that before you started? AFAIK, they later started to block users from certain countries and yours is probably one of them.

I'm not also sure why you suddenly have a problem with their privacy claim when you enabled the brave rewards. You know those ads paying you could be tracking your online activity too.

I had no problem, I checked my wallet before the withdrawal, they were lightning fast, it gave me satisfaction, but do you support the ads with a tip? Often the tip exceeds the profit but the tokens continue to grow smoothly..PS. I have already made a withdrawal more than once

If they made it clear to users before they start using the browser that kyc will be required before withdrawal, then I would blame those agree to the terms. That doesn't mean what the company did was OK. I believe that people should only use crypto in privacy-friendly manner, whether kyc is required or not. There is a Safe KYC system that was proposed on this forum, I don't still recommend it to be used unnecessarily even though it's way better than the current traditional method.  The way people private data are collected on the internet and even physically is actually worrisome. They are exposing lots of people to big risk. It's a gamble
