Title: Should I grade these?
Post by: Abiky on November 19, 2021, 02:29:42 PM
I own two crypto collectibles that have grown in value over the past years. One of them is the "1k Bits BTCC Mint Poker Chip" and the other is the "Satori Pre-Fork Poker Chip". I want to grade these collectibles from a reputable entity like "PCGS" in order to know their condition. But I'm not so sure. Apparently, crypto collectibles are worth more money when they're graded.

I want to know your advice on this. Is it worth grading the aforementioned poker chips? Or am I better off leaving them ungraded? Any suggestions or recommendations will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

Is that a yellow Satori chip? Or are my eyes deceiving me? Can I please see a pic of the front?

i strongly assume that this color difference comes from the photo flash and the Satori chip has the normal orange color ;)

And here I was getting all excited on some new error discovery to be part of my hunt!  :D

Though I do have a pink one  ;)

It's an orange Satori chip. The phone's camera and the room's lighting appeared to change the color when taking the picture.  :P

Here's another pic without the lighting:

ICG will slab and authenticate them, but not grade as they are clay. I always suggest slabbing for long term protection, and the value of each will be impacted in a positive way vs ungraded (in my experience).

Thanks for the tip. I just want to preserve these collectibles as much as possible. Slabbing them now might make them more valuable in the long run. I will try my luck with ICG.  :)

PCGS likely wont grade these.  ICG is your best bet.  I don't know if I would have the Satori authenticated, but the BTCC perhaps.

I wouldn't waste money grading them, but to each their own.  I know some people like to have their collection in slabs and have storage methods setup to accommodate these holders.  As far as resale or authentication goes though, I doubt you'd get your money back.  You never know though.  Mostly I would say that it's your collectible in your collection, so do you want to see it in a graded slab, or do you like it in it's more original clothes.  In the end that's really all that matters.  If you aren't planning on keeping it though, like I said, I doubt you'd recover the funds you spend grading it, and if it came back with a low grade it might even hurt it's value.

Noted. I'm planning on keeping both chips for the foreseeable future, so I think I'll send them for grading. It's more of a personal preference, as I like to see all of my collectibles in pristine condition. I already have a graded Moonbits poker chip, so grading the other ones would make my collection look much nicer.

I'd like to thank everyone for your advice. It's been of great help to me.  :)
