Should bitcoin rebrand itself as "The People's Currency"?

It is, after all, created, by the people, for the people. :)

Perhaps it would make it more appealing for bureaucrats in the certain People's Republic...? Seriously, though, this is an important aspect of Bitcoin. Not only is it Open Source, but the infrastructure itself is decentralized, distributed, and open to any and all users. I'd be careful calling it People's Currency around people who suffer from socialistophobia, though.

given that it is used by a very small fraction of the People, why not the 0.001%'s currency ?

but it was created by people with the intention of becoming for the people.  in this sense i agree with the OP.

I think it does make sense to call it People's Currency. That's what it's supposed to be, essentially.

A government of the people, by the people, for the people is supposed to be democracy. I suppose that in communism the government is supposed to be the people (rather than of the people).

How about "A Peoples Currency?" Though non-english majors may still get confused...

The government is not the will of a collective. A collective doesn't even think feel nor have a will in the first place; only individuals do. Non-sequitur. Additionally, a recognized government isn't the only means to establish change. Remember, an action is only the result of the winning desire that overcomes all that oppose it.

The fact is Bitcoin benefits all people by allowing its price and distribution to be affected solely by the will of the people and not the whims of a powerful elite nor collusions in monopolies on power. It is the people's currency more than any other money.

I think the point is that by now, the term "The Peoples'" is just as tarnished as the terms "Democratic Republic of," or "liberal" and "conservative." Regardless of what the true meaning of the words is, its extremely hypocritical use by certain groups will for ever make us think of those words in terms of their hypocricy rather than their actual meaning.

I liked bitcoin being called bitcoin. It is what it is. Some get it and some don't.

Eventually more will get it.


Bitcoin could have huge political and economical implications as a result of it's widespread usage, but like any tool, it's simply just a tool.

Trying to coin some political phrase to gain additional interest right now imo will do more harm than good imo.

So we should call it the National Socialist's Coin for greater Germany?

I don't like "The People's Currency", it sounds horrible communist-ish. Like The People's Republic of China. It's propaganda term.
Also it doesn't belong to all the people in the world. Technically it's owned by computational majority of the nodes in the network.
The term would suggest Bitcoins is egalitarian and it's not.

I kinda like the term crypcoin or crypbits as generic terms for crypto-currencies, but bitcoin  is elegant and easy to understand.
