I prefer coinmarketcap. Coingecko is just inconvenient for me, I didn't understand this web-site, while coinmarketcap has a very clear interface so I understood how to use it and where to find all the information needed. First of all, there is a table of top-100 that I use to find fundamental projects. Secondly, there is a lot of useful information about supply, exchanges where this coin is traded etc.

Well for sure majority have been using coinmarketcap for the longest time here.

And since CZ takes over, there are some improvements I should say and they didn't change any of the aesthetics so it is still a go for us to check quickly or to look in depth about certain coins because it also have some good links in it.

But I'm also using coingecko, specially if I need to double check on some coins, specially if I found some discrepancy on coinmarketcap I go to coingecko to cross reference it.

I currently use coingecko, it's faster and easier for me to use and have not been using coinmarketcap for a while now after it was acquired by binance because it takes time to fully load on my mobile phone. Although coingecko could be full of price glitches so  just double check from coinmarketcap to ensure I don't make an historical mistake.

I personally prefer CoinMarketCap because it has a friendly user interface and has many more products and features that makes the search easier. One could gain more knowledge about different aspects of the cryptocurrency market at just a glance because projects has been arranged according to their similarities. Various information that an investor could need about a project are readily available.

I use both, but I often use CMC because the data provided is more complete, for example the available market for the coin I'm looking for and it looks more friendly. Features at CMC are more complete, such as banner displays about top gainers, recently added and trending this features I can't find at Coingecko.

Both are great sites that provide information about cryptocurrencies. The information about cryptocurrencies presented is more specialized than most other websites. In addition to coinmarketcap and coingecko, there is also a site that is almost the same as them, namely cryptorank.io

I use coinmarketcap because It is an habit now but occasionally I also use coingecko. Coinmarketcap was bought by Binance not so long ago and Binance is the best exchange in the business. Some shit coins are not available on coinmarketcap so when I need the data of that coin, I go to coingecko and I am never disappointed till know. Both are great providing a great service. You cannot go wrong with either one.

Is there no other option for you?

I, for example, choose this site https://dropstab.com/ it is more convenient and faster. There is a lot of useful functionality.

CMC.

But I still use both of them.

Why a need to choose if we're all free to visit both of them from time to time? If CMC goes down, there's still the best alternative coingecko.

I use both but I mostly use Coingecko to easily convert how much my coin is worth also the Coingecko covers a lot of coins while the coinmarektcap is not however the coinmarketcap has a lot more feature and information and I think it's more like an official list of the coins. If the coinmarketcap would be able to have something like quick conversion of the coin then I will use mainly the coinmarketcap.

I have been using coingecko much more often than coinmarketcap lately especially due to the fact that a lot of unnecessary information has appeared on the coinmarketcap website.
I also often use https://cryptorank.io because there are many other cool metrics here.

I personally like coingecko more than coinmarketcap because you can easily find newer projects on coingecko than coinmarketcap, I've seen so many new altcoins landing on coingecko first before coinmarketcap I guess it's so easier to get listed on coingecko than CMC, also coinmarketcap is more buggy than coingecko

They are same purpose and feature in general. Coinmarketcap is just older than coingecko that's why it is more famous. I use both in different purposes. Coingecko is good for tracking new coin because its much easy to list there than Coinmarketcap so usually new token choose Coingecko then later list on CMC. On the other hand, Coinmarketcap is good on fetching price data. Since they fetched there price data inly on there accredited exchange, They show much accurate price compared to coingecko and also there UI/UX design is much better.

Never heard of Coingecko until now and its nice looking but will go with what I have always used.

For this second and for now, I prefer to use coinmarketcap, In the field of coin price information and also the rating that the coin gets, I am more comfortable using coinmarketcap.

In addition to complete information, it is also easy to access.

Coinmarketcap has all the details about every tokens and coins that's listed on their platform, they also have a fully working mobile app for Android and iOS but coingecko doesn't have this, the only issue I noticed about coinmarketcap is instant update on prices, they are slower in this part, imagine even using new platform like poocoin to track a token value? They need to work on this

Coingecko for me after Binance bought Coinmarketcap. It's just like bias for me, a centralized exchange owning a cryptocurrency information/tracker platform.
Since I am not a Binance fan, I much prefer to use Coingecko until now, they just got a simple UI, and the good news they updated their mobile app before the mobile app is just like a mobile view of their web, but now, good looking user interface.

I use both. It depends on the coins I'm researching. If they're not on Coinmarketcap then I'll go to coingecko. The advantage of Coingecko is the mini version of Coinmarketcap itself. If we have difficulty finding it in Coinmarketcap which is usually a difficult asset to register there then Coingecko becomes the solution.

I use them both from time to time, but mostly use and prefer CoinMarketCap.. For whatever reason I just personally find the site a little easier to use. Plus, I can quickly navigate around it now (viewing which exchanges a token is on, historical data..etc). I know this stuff is just as easy to find (if not, easier) on Coingecko, but I've just become more used to CMC over time..

I don't have any preference now because I use them both.

I also use Nomics (https://nomics.com/) especially when Gecko or CMC are having issues. Apart from that, the website is simple and loads fast. If you are doubting the volume presented on those two data aggregators, you can also use this instead. Here's more on their Transparent Volume (https://nomics.com/blog/essays/transparent-volume)

I mostly used Coinmarketcap before as my main reference for any coin information.

But as of now, my preference now switches to Coingecko. I don't know the specific reason but maybe I found the site more user-friendly and organized with a simple layout. I'm not saying CMC is not like that but it's just that, I'm now used to referring to Coingecko most.

Regardless, both sites are good references. It's just a matter of self-preferences.

I don't really like coinmarketcap because I play on coins on a small scale. To be registered to Coinmarketcap is too much of a requirement. I often use coingecko or poocoin. Even Poocoin is very quick to get token information if it is on the bsc network.

Both have their advantage and disadvantage. There are some coins in coingecko that CMC haven't listed yet so I go to coingecko to check it there. It's also easier to do price checking with my own currency if I use CMC.

Sometimes, there will be inaccuracy in both of them so I pre checking them both to accurately see the price. I also use other website other than this two.

Definitely Coinmarketcap.

It's been around for longer, has much better user interface, and is just generally more user-friendly.

I think that Coingecko does have a few more listed exchanges though so for microcaps you may find it easier to find exchanges with Coingecko. But those are the exceptions, not the rule.

I'm using https://dropstab.com
I like this site because it is possible to sort coins and tokens by directions such as DeFi, Yield Farming, BSC Ecosystem, Coinlist Launchpad, Infrastructure. I can also see how many projects in this direction Gainers / Losers.
And I like this design more than other sites.

Title: Re: coinmarketcap or coingecko

I prefer Coingecko over Coinmarketcap only because first one shows 1h price % updates, and (this might be really individual) coingecko loads data a bit faster. Besides that, I dont see any major difference between these two. They both show identically useful data. Both platforms has intuitive UI.

Coinmarketcap can annoy with "Today's Cryptocurrency Prices by Market Cap", but that can be hidden. Also news can be sometimes annoying or distracting for those who has opened page to check market situation. But this does not bother me much.

Many users say that Coiningecko is more real with the latest conditions, and many say that coinmarketcap has too many errors or manipulations, especially now that the trending tab, biggest gainers and recently updated, tab for trending and biggest gainers is certainly the best promotion for devs. so investors put their money there.

We can really rely on these two markets because coinmarketcap or coinecko have their respective advantages, and when checking a coin I always cross it so that they are always used, and for now coiningecko has been recognized by binance so it's easier for us to monitor every coin that exists However, for the features available in both markets, CoinMarketcap is more complete and easier to use, which is certain for now we can always rely on both of them.

coinmarketcap or course, it's easier to use and I get used to it eversince.

I also check on coingecko sometimes for some projects that are not listed yet in CMC, but since I love to invest on projects that are already listed in big exchanges or with a decent volume already, then I can stick with coinmarketcap for all my needs in terms of information.

For years I was using coinmarketcap until I started noticing some discrepancies in the provided charts at times so I had to look for alternative, that was when I started using coingecko and I have never have any issues with it.
I realized I still need to use Coinmarketcap because it provides more general information about a coin than Coingecko.
So like most people here, I used them both everyday.

for coinmarketcap it is difficult to find new coins there, indeed because of the higher costs. this can be seen every time I get a new coin, only a small part can be listed on coinmarketcap. but if that happens, then it has the possibility to fly high, especially if it is going to be listed on a major exchange, then we can wait and hold on to it

I'm using Coingecko the most and regularly. The reason why is that I find their data more reliable compared to Coinmarketcap's. Because sometimes, the data on Coinmarketcap stop working properly and show weird stats to investors. The reliability is the most important thing these days for investors to make their investments much better.

I use both coinmarketcap and coingecko to compare the coin price and check the difference. Both coinmarketcap and coingecko give the data, although we do not know if that data is real or not but we can use it as our guidance besides analyzing the coin at the market. The design for both websites is good and it is a friendly user for people to search for the data. I mostly prefer to use Coingecko because it provides genuine information about cryptocurrencies and its easy to use interface is very suitable for me that's why Coingecko is always on top in my list, on the other side cmc has become a hype spreading and money making platform for its team they're getting paid to show various shitcoins on trending everyday which is absolutely a ridiculous way to make people fool.

Coinmarketcap first, then coingecko. I have more confident with coinmarketcap's interface, and I have used it since I was in the crypto business.
As I know, coinmarketcap is more trusted regarding volume and daily trading activity updates, but coingecko is not bad either, maybe they will improve their service at least almost like what coinmarketcap already provides.

Well I use both, but sometimes I encounter slow downs in CoinMarketCap, but that could be in my own internet and device only. I don't really compare both sites.

However when it comes to my own development stuffs in websites especially when I use third-party APIs, I would choose CoinGecko over CoinMarketCap.
CoinGecko provide more endpoints for developers in their free plan rather than CoinMarketCap. I guess many had used their APIs already, that's why they have fewer endpoints.

My sources: CMC API Pricing (https://coinmarketcap.com/api/pricing/)
CoinGecko API Pricing (https://www.coingecko.com/en/api/pricing)

Coinecko doesn't seem to accept marketing and advertising about airdrops, I think they want to focus on user interfaces and information, instead of getting involved in issues related to fair evaluation like airdrops. On the side of coinmarketcap, many people spread that they have been acquired by binance and the airdrops here are all about listing on this exchange, fairness and transparency of information and data that can be manipulated but to be honest, other functions working properly is enough when I think these are mainly price checking websites, not a place to do a good investigation

If I have a task to find out about the price of a particular cryptocurrency, or about a crypto exchange, then I always use the Coinmarketcap platform website. It so happened that I found out about the presence of Coinmarketcap earlier than other similar services and I immediately liked it, since it is convenient to find information on it, there are charts and other useful information about cryptocurrencies. If we talk about Coinmarketcap as an auxiliary service, then it suits me perfectly and I will continue to use it if necessary.

What was the issue with coinmarketcap? The only one I know, that it is being a bit laggy during huge price drops in crypto and panic on the market.

I am a coingecko user, as for me it loads faster and shows price changes hourly. But I suggest to use both, because one might have altcoins that other dont have.

The only disadvantage coingecko has is showing prices, when altcoin is not traded anywhere, and on on "Market" section there is only a promotion of eToroX.

I did do some in coinecko although now I understand quite well but indeed for the first impression they were so complicated and inconvenient for me that it took me a few days to learn them first.
I would probably recommend Coinmarketcap

I prefer coinmarketcap to coinecko, this is because I noticed on coinmarketcap that prices are always updated and dynamic, besides that there are many menus so we can easily analyze coins or projects.
Both of them are updated, I like both of them but there are casual times that coinmarketcap shows some bugs and I've seen that coingecko looks more stable by that time.
But today after binance acquired cmc, those features that they've added. It's giving interest to most people that are new to cryptocurrencies. Although I'm not really into those.

To tell the truth, I use both services. Coinmarketcap is longer on the market, but I have the impression that the process of listing new projects is much longer (I think at some point they made a business out of charging a lot to speed up the listing process). Coingecko, in my opinion, is listing small projects much faster. If someone likes to invest in new, little-known projects, Coingecko will be more practical for him.

I don't want to make a comparison between the two because I think these two are very important, because indeed coinmarketcap and coinecko help me make it easier to find and provide fairly complex data that I can use as my material for processing data.
on the other hand there are advantages and disadvantages of each but this is precisely what I need because they can be complementary to each other

because instead of us being busy seeing which one is the best but not being used and just focusing on doing research on the differences, it will only be useless and get nothing.
both are more used to support all the needs we have both from data and facts.
this will be better done than we are busy comparing without using

I prefer coingecko a heck of a lot more, and that is because it is easier for me to see the BTC pricing. I have a tough time with that on CMC, maybe I just don't know where to look up. Also the BTC value is located under the asset which CMC doesn't have, I know this for sure. Also seems like a cleaner nicer GUI to me.

I prefer using both platforms as I find one to have something that the other does not have, though I think the newer platform( coingecko) has a better platform and gets regularly updates of markets performance , coin listings. I also think its easier to get a coin listed here than coinmarketcap because most new projects make announcements of getting listed here and not CMP.

I use both coinmarketcap and coingeko. In the meanwhile I use coingeko more. Because all the details of the token are well given. So I like it a lot. And to get a general idea of   the token personality, coingeko is very important. So if you want to increase the general knowledge. You can use coingeko. The same is given in the coin market but I like coingeko better.

I have exactly the same feelings. It is true that I respect Binance for its smooth funcionality, but unfortunately the acquisition of Coimarkecap seems a bit unethical to me. Besides, Coingecko has a lot of new tokens that I like to observe. So for me also much better fit Coingecko.

Coingecko is better then Coinmarketcap. Coz CMC are not Track accurate Price in short time. But CG always Track accurate price of all coin/token. And Cmc team add all project without verify and Coingecko always verify all project before list and they are not accept unverified project

There goes a lot of bugs that have happened a few hours ago not only for coinmarketcap but also for other wallets that probably are attached their API to coinmarketcap.

Coingecko is better then Coinmarketcap. Coz CMC are not Track accurate Price in short time. But CG always Track accurate price of all coin/token. And Cmc team add all project without verify and Coingecko always verify all project before list and they are not accept unverified project
I don't know about the verification process of both websites but I think they both have their own way of verifying the authenticity of the project. But I've seen those projects when I click them that there's a note that cmc hasn't verified the liquidity of it.

For now it seems that I use CoinGecko more often as a reference to see and strengthen newly listed coins for investment, so far the information provided by CG is very good and accurate. But apart from that, it doesn't mean that I rule out Coinmarketcap as a platform that is earlier than CG because they both provide good and reliable information.

The problem should be on API or server. Remember that any of these sites were putting interval for its database to get the data through API from exchange sites. that was preventing the data base gets over loaded and it needs a few seconds to refresh the price. CMC has a better server than CG as it's owned by a very big entity and that's different with coingecko which has been owned by small entity. CMC has short intervals to refresh the price and this makes CMC looks even faster to update the latest price of tokens.

I am using them Both, I trust Coinmarketcap, but i also trust Coingecko .

and besides why need to choose one when there are opportunity in using them 2?

though CMC is the famous yet CG is also a trustworthy place to check prices and exchanges .
