Title: Bitcoin can be a gift for some persons

Yeah. As SFR10 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5377324.msg58742122#msg58742122) already wrote today, together with your gift, it is advisable to present the knowledge of how to keep your "gift" in the future.
Otherwise, the opposite may happen, and the gift will simply remain virtual forever if the owner suddenly loses the keys and everything related to storing bitcoin.
Last year I asked my friends if they would like to have some bitcoins as a gift, but since my acquaintances are far from cryptocurrencies, they honestly admitted that they would prefer something that can be touched with their hands.
Therefore, Bitcoin will be valuable for someone who understands what it is.

I wrote something related on my local board this morning. Essentially, I explained how I’d offered some of my closest circle some bitcoin for xMas this year. After all, they’ve heard me here and there going on about the matter, and at least some curiosity might have brushed-off. The answer I got was a resounding “Yikes, no way!”, which pretty much sums-up my level of influence on the matter.

Fortunately, I tested the waters first to see where they were standing. It is, after all a responsibility for them to a certain degree (accepting, taking custody, learning what to do and what not to do), even if they go for the barebones and simply HODL …

Your bitcoin can be best gift this season.

Regardless of the fact that giving is a noble act, I would not give away Bitcoin to anyone. Not only because such a gift would be insignificant for someone, but also because it is not wise to send a message to people around you that you own Bitcoin at all. Some may say that they trust their family members and close friends, but this information will spread far beyond that circle of people, and sooner or later there may be people who will see it as an opportunity to rob you.

A lot of people have been killed, kidnapped or tortured for publicly bragging about having something as valuable as Bitcoin - be smart and keep those things to yourself.

I've already gifted my mom before the bull run and luckily, I'm still holding it. She told me that I should be the one holding it and she'll just decide if she wants to sell it already.
I've told her that she should learn how to keep it on her own since she's the owner of it already. But I guess when people grow up, they don't want to know more about complicated things and technicalities about such technologies that they've knew.

It will not also be a bad idea if you can ask those of us here if we want to be given some bitcoin as gift this Xmas. Afterall we are your friends with like minds and they say that charity begins at home. This is a season to show love to all. Seriously speaking it will be a waste of goodwill to gift someone something they do not know anything about. They will throw it to the dogs. You are better off keeping it to yourself.

Bitcoin will be very useful to anyone who knows it. I mean it's okay if you're willing to give recipient a little bit of information about what bitcoin is if they don't know it yet, it's a great start to introduce bitcoin to other people. I seem interested in gifting my wife bitcoin on her next birthday, but I doubt she will ever sell them. Lol

This is true. For them, receiving bitcoin is like receiving nothing unless that person received both bitcoin and knowledge and also about cryptocurrency related topics like blockchain, wallet related, security related. So, it is entirely depends on the receiver. I would definitely agree in the post above.

yeah, I'd rather educate them and point them in the right direction, then just give them some money. But that knowlage is a far more deeper hole, it should start with general financial knowlage and money handling, because without that, I might as well throw money out the window.

Yes this is something I do for some of my family who are also involved with Bitcoin.
I started last Christmas and will do the same this year but added to this year I have
a Nephew who has ben interested since the summer and I have a Trezor wallet for
him for Christmas. When he gets it activated all the other family members who are into
Bitcoin will send some Saoshi's to an address from his Trezor!

So its a big adventure starting up a hardware wallet including the hands on experience
of generating and storing the seed and passwords.

Exactly what I thought, if you want to give a gift to someone, you should know what they want or what would they do if they have Bitcoin because Bitcoin nowadays is too valuable especially in the future. If you want to educate someone make sure it won't go to waste because not everyone is worthy to teach so you should test the water first if someone is willing to learn some knowledge that you are about to share with them.

For me, why send Bitcoin if they don't know about it? It would be a hassle to spoon feed someone and at the end it turns out they lost it or they just sell it even if the price is cheap, which means that they really need a money and not an investment.

No amount is too small. I wouldn't mind if am been given a small amount of bitcoin(lols). A small amount of bitcoin given today would turn out to be gold tomorrow. This is the festive season, give your loved one some bitcoin, it will go a long way.
It must not matter whether he knows about bitcoin or not. Just tell him or her that you are giving out bitcoin as a Christmas gift. He should keep it safe

Although it might be unwise to just give somebody some Bitcoin without ever giving him/her a little of the basics and some do's and don'ts about keeping private keys very personal and all that.

But giving somebody a Bitcoin-related present is much more interesting to me. There are some Bitcoin collectibles out there, physical ones both loaded and unloaded, could be made of precious metals or not. There are a lot of choices out there as a gift and a way to introduce Bitcoin to somebody during this holiday season.

give bitcoin as a gift in christmas this year?
I think it takes an introduction process first for beginners who don't know in my family and no one even knows what bitcoin is in my family, it's only me who knows
so for this year I still give gifts as usual to my brother

great idea a basic physical gift that represents bitcoin. such as clothes, jackets, and much more
and hopefully , they can and want to know more about what bitcoin is and how to get it the next day .

Yes for some satoshis but i doubt that everybody or most people would do this considering that bitcoin is valuable the they wouldnt tend to waste of their bitcoins that they had been holding for years

which i do rather believe that they would really be just telling them about bitcoins info without needing on giving them but its good if someone would  really consider on taking such
step but on my side i would tend to waste off my money just for this one.

Telling them about hints or basic info would or should be enough imho.

If they are not familiar with BTC, you are better to let them know Bitcoin first before deciding to give them BTC gifts, plus give them some lessons. You cannot give them BTC if they have no BTC wallets, right? It also will be useless if they don't know how to use it. First, they must have their own BTC wallets. Then, they need to know if BTC price isn't stable, it is very volatile. So, they are not surprised once the value changes. Don't forget to explain how to exchange BTC and where they can do it. Also, you need to remind them that BTC isn't only about profits, but it has some risks once it is used for investment purposes. The rest, they can learn themselves.

.......................................................................

Wow, what a coincidence you asked this at the right time. On December 16th it was my cousin's brother's 19th birthday, and I gave him $190 worth of Bitcoin. I didn't give him directly and I didn't ask him for any address. I just made a separate trust wallet and loaded $190 worth of bitcoin, then I wrote the seed phrase on a gift card, then I gave it as a birthday gift card. But I tell him there is a secret. If you find the secret, then there is a surprise for you. The thing is, though he knows I am working on crypto and di teaching him a little bit, he understood that the seed phrase was input and saw the amount. And he gives the craziest looks. That was an epic moment for me. I am totally happy with it.

Great idea, but only a few of my close friends know what is bitcoin. Not everyone knows bitcoin because I still live in the village. Maybe it's possible to introduce about bitcoin, but I don't think they will linger for long, maybe they choose to find out how to sell it and make money.
Yes, it seems that it is still difficult to introduce bitcoin to the people around me. Maybe if it's better I'll give it to my wife. Even though I don't have a lot of bitcoins at least a small part of it will be useful someday.

many people are now starting to learn about bitcoin because investing in bitcoin has become the center of attention of many people, especially people who have a lot of capital and cannot manage finances more effectively. it turns out that bitcoin is a good target and investment for the future.

I would so love to do that, but if and only if, those loved ones that I am planning to gift with Bitcoin do want it. Yes, this may be a way of intruding crypto to them, but without the interest and willingness to learn about it, I think that gifting Bitcoin with be just sold or exchanged, hence it will not serve its purpose to them. So, before doing that, I would identify first who among my loved ones want it.

and yes i have received a Thankful or appreciation message Christmas Eve as they have find out that i fill up their wallets with bitcoin.
and in return? they send me altcoins hahaha, but of course i am thankful as it is a generosity in our circle .

This is the season of gifts. As described in the OP, gifts in the form of bitcoin and something related to cryptocurrency will initiate the interest among non-crypto people. Since pandemic the people who have been involved with cryptocurrency have increased. This is the result of real growth and more countries are with the plans of regulating cryptocurrency. Some have already developed infrastructure for the same and were under testing.

Maybe during the next Christmas season we can see a lot of gifting service providers with innovative gifts that resemble/associate with cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin can be a great gift for everyone because of its very high value but i chose not to offer it as a gift. I would rather give fiat than bitcoin because i won't easily give my hard earned bitcoins because i know it will be even more valuable if i can manage it the right way.

And there's no way i can give bitcoin as a gift as more people will know that i am into hodling bitcoin which will put myself into danger.

Well, at the end of this year, there are two sequence special moments to do, they are Christmas and also New Year. So far, I never give BTC as gift for my beloved family because most of them don't exactly know about crypto  i lrefer to give them a gift in a form of something or in fiat only. But the idea of using BTC as a gift is actually very interesting. Maybe for a kind of voucher.

You are right. If they see no point in bitcoin, it makes no sense to give it as gift to them. I have already thought about doing this, but concluded it's better to just use the bitcoins to purchase something they will really appreciate.

After all, bitcoin is a currency and usually we don't give money as gift in my house to the relatives and friends. A gift is a way to show you care for people and their demands. So to give money is a bit cold and rude.

You won't be in danger as long as they didn't know you are holding many Bitcoins. If you are only holding some Bitcoin valued no more than $500, I don't think people will have an intention to steal it. People commonly steal something that has big/expensive value. They don't want to risk themselves by stealing BTC only with small value. Moreover, stealing Bitcoin isn't as easy as stealing real stuff. Stealing it should be more complicated, requires skill to hack. And only people who are familiar with crypto probably want to steal it.

This is a good idea IMO.  :D

Last time i tried to offer a fraction of bitcoin to my girlfriend but i told her also that she can cash them at any time if needed instead of better to hold them for long time. First crisis we faced, she proposed to cash the bitcoin gift and i confess that i need that money as well. I promised her to give them back to her wallet and i will do this at the Christmas night or in Valentine Day 1 month later.

it is not for all actually. because before you give it to them, as others have already pointed out, you need to orient them about securing the keys, password and the whole nine yards. not all will be ready on this but would be a good try. you will know if they are interested also on keeping some for themselves.
you will do the brief intro to them, it is not that you will give them a gift without discussing anything about crypto.
if you want to secure your gift, you know what subjects you need to share with them. youve been in this market for so long, you know what they will need as a beginner.

bitcoin is money so of course it can be given as a gift, but there is a big problem that would be how this person will spend or withdraw to the bank and spend in the real world, we all know that people to open bank accounts need to have documents and for people to use some exchange to withdraw bitcoin, I need to do KYC, so the person who was going to receive bitcoin as a gift will have to have another person interested in bitcoin in the real world to give him money worth bitcoin and that person who received bitcoin as a gift gift will send bitcoin to real world person who will give you money. and a big embarrassment

I understand what you mean and I could give them that kind of guidance without any problems, but I don't feel people around me would have legit interest in keeping and caring for their coins.

So in the end, besides my own wallets and investments to manage I would also have to manage the wallets of my family and friends, because they would say it's everything too complex and hard to learn and execute.

In fact they are just fine living without adopting bitcoin in their lives. That is actually a normal thing, since most people are at a confort zone which doesn't make them feel incentivized to try new things.

One great way to gift someone bitcoin that you care about these holidays is by gifting them a physical bitcoin. Some lower cost options you can find in the collectibles section here is stuff like Satori poker chips which are funded with .001BTC or Alpen Coins which are metal coins and have some lower denominations such as .0005BTC. These are a cool ways to gift bitcoin in a cold storage method.

Yes, and they might appreciate it if they are interested in cryptocurrency or bitcoin. That is really cool; I haven't seen anything like it before; I believe before Monero, they had collectibles but no values. That coin is only for collecting purposes, but the fact that you own one is the best feeling in the world, even if it has no monetary value. Gifting it to someone who truly appreciates it will make them extremely happy, and even more so if it is valuable.

At the least we should be sure that they're going to appreciate it and at the same time, they already have an intimate knowledge about cryptocurrencies in general, you can't just gift someone bitcoin, yes bitcoin can be gifted for some people but the word "some" makes things different.

My family knows I'm into cryptocurrencies but I haven't given them any BTC yet. I'm planning to give something they could actually enjoy like NFTs for P2E gaming though. It's spreading like wildfire among younger generations and it's probably a better way to introduce crypto to them.

It's not just a gift, it's more than that. If you give a small amount of bitcoin to friends or family, hopefully it will be something very special for them. Maybe they have more time in the future. If the assets increase, then you've not only given bitcoin, you've given them time, and that's wonderful.

Yes it can be, but it worth too much everyone can't afford it to buy and gift. Only millinoers can afford BTC buy and gift. If you can afford BTC and wanna gift someone then you transfer BTC to his account and if he mot have Account then you make account and give him account and password.

I had an experience presenting cryptocurrency as gift. I did it on my brother's daughter 1st birthday. Month before her birthday my brother asked to invest on cryptocurrency and gave little amount. By the time ethereum was around $400. For the amount he gave I was able to buy 0.75 ethereum and knowing this I gave 0.25 ethereum after a month on her birthday. Now it is really a big gift as it has grown ten times the investment.

You can give bitcoin as a gift and suggest they not sell when the price is down. You also need to teach them how to use bitcoin properly to understand and use it without a problem. You can tell your story about how you use bitcoin and what benefit you get from bitcoin. Hopefully, that can make them curious and want to learn about bitcoin. If you do not tell them more about bitcoin, they will not search for more information. But we do not have to force them to use bitcoin if they do not want it because that will be up to them.

This year I actually only gave bitcoin as a form of gift. (At least for the people that I only give money to for Christmas.)

I usually create a few 12-word seeds and load bitcoin onto each of them. The first year I did this I was very worried people would not understand what they were getting or wouldn't care about getting bitcoin. Turns out everyone was excited to get it even if they didn't know how bitcoin worked.

I agree with you. It is the genuine care and interest that would truly matter in considering to whom and if it is really a good thing to gift someone with Bitcoin. On top of that, since you are the one who gifted and introduced bitcoin to them, you’ll be obligated to guide and to even do some things for them, as mentioned like managing their wallets for them.

We have already commented on our local board how difficult it is for our family and close friends to create interest in the long term, but if something has changed for me, it is that at least today there is already more interest, but the continuity of That interest is lost in time, but regardless of that we should give away some satoshis, it does not take many funds to do it.

Very wonderful gift but It'd be of more benefit to persons who atleast have ideas and are optimistic about Bitcoin but lack the funds to own theirs.
It may also be a starting point for some persons who are mentally blank about Bitcoin but for that would mean backing them up with some coaching.

It's not just a gift, it's more than that. If you give a small amount of bitcoin to friends or family, hopefully it will be something very special for them. Maybe they have more time in the future. If the assets increase, then you've not only given bitcoin, you've given them time, and that's wonderful.
I think it will be more valuable for those who know bitcoin well, but for those who are not aware about bitcoin, then they will consider it as an ordinary one. But its not too late to make people aware about bitcoin and let them know about its own high value that will have even more chances to grow as year passes by. And to think that bitcoin has indeed higher value than fiat, well that would be enough to make them overwhelm having it as a gift.
Ordinary one or chances that they would lost their given coins by someone if they wont really be that curious or they havent been informed on what it is because it would be just common for human beings to be more interested when they are dealing with fiat but somehow if they know that the thing that they had recieved does have that value then for sure
curiosity would really come next.

Bitcoin could really be a good thing for you to give out some gifts to someone to spread up awareness and recognition which we do all want for this thing to increased
as the years goes ahead.
