Title: A Crypto Christmas; Using Bitcoin to help feed the homeless
Post by: SatoPrincess on December 25, 2021, 01:17:00 AM
Its almost the end of the year. Christmas is here again and everyone is excited and busy with the festive season so much so we forget what Christmas is really about. Christmas is commercial these days.  As a result, I decided to start this project "Christmas In the Slums" mainly because I always wanted to help lift my community using crypto. I feel strongly for the homeless because I grew up in a poor family and I know first hand the shame and pain of poverty. Anyways, I went to the market today to buy some food items to hand out. I will be going out Christmas morning to hand out some meals and food items. This will continue till the end of the year 25-31st December 2021. Hopefully we can extend the project.  I designed a flyer with some QR codes and the url for the Bitcointalk website to maybe help gain exposure. I also made customized T-shirts for the kids.  I plan on expanding this as much as I can and getting the much needed exposure to push the campaign. Funny thing though the driver that drove us to the market told me he is hodling Shiba Inu and wakanda Inu, looking at his appearance one wouldn't think he's educated on crypto. I was so excited I started early and gave him a loaf of bread from the items.

That's the driver. His name is Bardeh. I had an amazing conversation with Bardeh. He was very happy to talk about Bitcoin and he had an open mind to learn.

That's very nice of you! The essence of Christmas is sharing. I hope I'm wrong, but, unfortunately, it seems that we have the penchant to give much and more often to those who already have. We oftentimes give less, even ignore and forget those who don't have.

Anyway, setting aside the fact that the driver is hodling Shiba Inu and Wakanda Inu. Isn't it amazing that a driver is in fact into crypto? I could probably not find a driver here in my locality who knows what crypto is. That driver of yours only needs a little convincing before he will focus more, of perhaps only, on Bitcoin.

It is always a heartwarming event specially when seeing things like this, when many are being denied of support and Help there you are giving your hands fully to at least bring smile in very simple and productive ways.

Please never lose this heart mate, you are a treasure not only of this community but of course the world.

I may have nothing to contribute now but let me cherish the happiness with you and the whole beneficiaries .

This is great, There have been similar threads here before and like them I will
be making a donation. A small amount from a lot of people can make a
huge difference to a campaign like this.

Its great to see people take action and especially at this time, well done.

Good job out there! You are doing a great job and I'm excited about your effort of giving back to the slums. They will forever be grateful to your kind gestures. Don't stop doing good because it pays back in a big form. The driver in question is excited and would be forever glad to have met you on a Christmas day.

The bitcoin community needs more people like you! keep the good work ongoing.

This is just amazing and I really commendable for you to do it, thanks for bringing Bitcoin with humanity. I hope you asked for his permission regarding the image, nevermind if you did. I don't know what's drive him on HODLing Shiba but I think he got basic knowledge regarding crypto just how it works I guess.

Anyways, this is an amazing job!

Merry Christmas OP. Saw that the BTC address was all sad and lonely on Christmas day, so sent a little something (https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/ec8dd90b9753fea1368bcca88cf7a828288aeb2544ce40759f0d1b915a2efbde) on. Always like to see these little things pop up, just be sure you send the cheer along and tell them of course, Bitcoin > memecoin. A little bit of education doesn't hurt, no?

What do you guys like to eat on Christmas? I see Indomie and that's pretty much a staple in my food cabinet ;)

Greetings to Nigeria from Borneo.

That's really nice. I will send some bitcoin next week. In slums there is a high poverty rate and a high crime rate. And it is more difficult to cure diseases than in big cities. It would be nice if this creates something long term and you/we can help again and again.

Funny thing though the driver that drove us to the market told me he is hodling Shiba Inu and wakanda Inu, looking at his appearance one wouldn't think he's educated on crypto.
Shiba Inu and what? Wakanda Inu… I hope you told him that he hodl bitcoin  ;)

Thank you for your support. Life after covid is very expensive in Nigeria. Buying a pack of indomie noodles and protein is not what everybody can afford. I can tell you families have nothing to eat this Christmas. Just yesterday, a man committed suicide yesterday leaving his two kids and wife. According to the story, he had lost his job in 2019 and has been struggling since. Cases like this are common and we can help spread hope through this campaign. I have volunteers cooking nourishing meals to give out. Part of the items we bought are yam, indomie noodles, spaghetti noodles, bread, drinks, soap, milk, chocolate, pack of rice.

First of all Christmas greetings to everyone on this forum. This is an appreciable move to help homeless people and bring happiness on the faces of people. We all regardless of our religion and country should continue this practise through out the year. Since that's the teaching of Christ and all other Prophets. Take care of everyone around you.

That's a very nice project. Christmas is such a special time in the year where we are with family, eat very good food and have a lot of presents for each other. It becomes easy to forget about the less fortunate people around us. Every project that helps the homeless should get a lot of attention. In my city we have an a special event before Christmas in the supermarket where you can donate from 5 euro upwards for the Christmas food of poorer people. They make boxes ready and deliver them directly, or have people let them pick up at the store. Food is the most important thing in life and nobody should have to hunger during Christmas. Combing that with crypto currencies is even better. I hope it will be a big success.

Merry Christmas to you OP, good job, you showed to them the essence of Christmas, and not only that, but you also showed your support in crypto. I wish I would be able to do this kind of charitable works, it's been my dream to have a foundation to help the poor especially the homeless, and your post is very inspiring, so thank you.

That's really nice of you to donate food and clothes to the needy people. It's always a blessing to see crypto being used to help the needy.
I wish you all the good luck to keep up the good work and I wish that this campaigns keeps extending as long as possible.
There's one thing though which is bothering me. The url on the pamplet is bitcointalkforum.org which is a separate site.
It's not the actual bitcointalk forum we are using here. Can anyone shine some light on this ?

What a noble thing, that way you not only feel the benefits of crypto but you can also share it with others. people who help other people of course it will be easy for him to get good or profit. kindness can be started from oneself to do good to others and we also hope that more and more people are moved to help others. it can be an example for me and my friends here so that the benefits that we get from the crypto world are more meaningful. it's a nice thing if we can help others with our own efforts.

It is similar everywhere in the global South, I would say, though perhaps the disparity has always been greater where you are. I'm fortunate enough to have found better economic circumstance but yeah, indomie and almost any sort of fortified wheat/rice is almost a luxury for many of my compatriots. Inflation is always officially manageable, but the people on the ground suffer the most, especially in urban areas. I know more and more in the past 2 years thanks to Covid-exacerbated effects all moving back to the village to farm, where at least you can live off the land.

I know it's nothing to fix long-term problems but if it can bring some festive cheer with good hot meals... it's Bitcoin put to good use.

I can only say that you are Santa Claus in the real world. There is no need to give in large quantities, the most important thing is that there is moral education contained in it. Because it can make them have hope to keep the spirit in running life. Remember that what you sow is what you will reap. Share even if it's just a sip of water and a piece of bread, one good deed will be rewarded with 10 goodness. If you share 10 slices of bread then you have 100 goodness waiting for you in front of your eyes.

May your program continue, not only on certain days, but on any day when your presence is required.

A good example of celebrating Hari Raya by sharing so that the needy and those who deserve it can enjoy and feel this best moment, where many people are just busy preparing for the holiday for their sake without seeing those who can't celebrate it due to circumstances.
and OP celebrate a real Christmas and all your kindness, ideas and plans will be an example to others and bring the good name of crypto.

You have a good heart to help and you remember that you once lived in a situation that you needed help. Nice support bro.

You already have some pictures is smaller sizes, so adjust the bigger pictures using the format you used for the smaller ones.
Then placing them in row is just by assembling them and spacing them as if you are making space between words.

I like the part where the driving is already a hodler of some altcoins.

However, whether you include the URL of this honourable forum or not, this forum is already popular , at least the driver may have known this site already.

You have done well to many, good job.

I believe you want to reorganize the thread like this (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5361262.0l) right? You can use a table, or just see that thread for the example of the code.

Code:
[table]
[tr]
[td]row1 col1[/td]
[td]row1 col2[/td]
[/tr]
[tr]
[td]row2 col..[/td]
[/tr]
[/table]

Anyway, I don't have anything to say but I truly hope may all the good things you did, come back into you. Merry Christmas all ;)

This project is very good, but I always worry that things like this is scams. I have seen some terrible "behind the scene" footage of illiterate people holding up posters for something that they do not benefit from and then scammers taking the proceeds of these scams. (Important Note : I am NOT saying this is one of those scams)

I hope this is not one of them and that the proceeds of this goes to the correct cause. (You are 100% correct... Christmas has been over commercialized)  >:(

We would really be having that kind of doubts on which i cant really blame out people on now to hesitate on making out some donation when it comes to these kind of causes.Well, there are people who do

this from the bottom of their heart or something real and the truth but since scams are really rampant then you would really be always have second thoughts.
Just like on what you said that if this is actually true then good job to OP, giving out and helping those people who are in need at least even on most
simplest way would always a big thing for them.

Even myself would really be hesitated on making out some donation because you would really be thinking off that the money you would give would just come to waste because lots of scams or frauds are really rampant on this market on which you should really be that careful on giving out donations thats why in depth verification or positive feedbacks should be seeked out first before making out some final decisions on making donation. Christmas season is the holiday for giving and sharing out some part of your money even how big or small it is does really counts.I do appreciate these kind
of initiatives made out by other people.

Very nice and Merry Christmas everyone, I'm always a gib fan of helping homeless people, especially whenever you are talking about helping them with bitcoin and crypto because you can have two targets to help and feed the homeless people and spread the word of bitcoin to have economic freedom in all over the world so I totally support the idea, The only problem with your images is you are using the faces on your image and this can be disrespectful for them, Imagine even if they grow up after years they still some pictures of themselves on the internet where they need some other people to feed them, so I hope you take permissions before taking these pictures.

We asked for their permission and they were happy to take a picture with us. The people we are helping are the children and elderly. So far we have only $100 which will be used to buy more food items today and distributed in the next location. Thank you

That's really commendable on your part and true representation of what Christmas is actually and see the happy faces of those you have shared gifts with. This is year of giving away happiness and giving some gifts and meals to the needy one's is what we all should appreciate and try on our part to do in our locality aslo. There are lot of those who can't afford to buy even one meal for their family and instead of giving expensive gifts and doing parties with friends we can help them a little also which will make them happy this Christmas and be their Santa.

Once again Merry Christmas to all although I am little bit late but this whole weekend has the same vibe.So enjoy it.

It’s really nice that there is someone who is doing this , caring about the poor and the needy. That’s quite nice and if everyone will have the mindset of helping the poor people around them, it’s going to be a starting to changing the world for good. Sadly a lot of people never cares about that and all that they are after is just their own, and would rather take from the poor and add to the already big share that they have gathered up for themselves.

I have been doing something like this, but it is not with Bitcoin. Mine is that I go to the hospital and show the little support that I can to those who are sick and also pray with them. I have once thought of using crypto, but I felt that for the part I’m into, it is quite not necessary, because they are sick people and need to have quick access to the money I’m giving to them. Maybe I would try something else. By the way, Good luck man, and merry Christmas.

The only problem with your images is you are using the faces on your image and this can be disrespectful for them, Imagine even if they grow up after years they still some pictures of themselves on the internet where they need some other people to feed them, so I hope you take permissions before taking these pictures.
We asked for their permission and they were happy to take a picture with us. The people we are helping are the children and elderly. So far we have only $100 which will be used to buy more food items today and distributed in the next location. Thank you
Hope you could get more support! Im not saying you are a scammer but at least make out some considerable proofs that people would believe on.You couldnt really blame on why lots

had really doubts on making deposits or donations because lots had making this as an excuse just to scam out peoples money but if this one is true then
i might make out some deposits but i do still need more proofs that would convince me in doing so just like the others.

I agree with the previous membe here not to show there faces its a sensitive area people have pride and one should respect. I must say you are a very good humanitarian with the limited resources you are doing a fine job. This is something I am very passionate about, hence I won't get too personal about.

Once this is a genuine cause those who can help do what you can. However generally I dont believe in hand-outs to help people for the day. Help people to help them self and in the process that they can also help others in similar situations. To be frank God didn't put us here to be suffering it is man that did that and It's a shame cause they can fix it and refuse to do so....going of track. For the people on need It's a blessing for them which equals a blessing for you.🙏

That's a great project,OP.Keep it up with the good work.We need more people to start acting rather than sitting on the forum all day long. ;D
I'm not sure that this is the right way of promoting the bitcointalk.org forum, since most of those homeless people probably don't have computers, internet connection and electricity.
Anyway,Christmas is a time for sharing and charity, not a time for consumerist orgy, buying stuff you don't need
and eating three days like a pig.Maybe that's why I hate Christmas nowadays. The meaning of Christmas has changed a lot.

Quote
Funny thing though the driver that drove us to the market told me he is hodling Shiba Inu and wakanda Inu, looking at his appearance one wouldn't think he's educated on crypto.

He most likely isn't educated in crypto. He just got caught in the hype around those shitcoins/memecoins and he wants to make some easy money by buying low and selling high. ;D

Great project! Keep it up! Some of us really uses cryptocurrency to help in real life, some users I have met or people I have met think that cryptocurrency is digital currency and can only do things online where in fact you can use it in many more ways such as project like this or any related project it only shows that there's is no limitation in cryptocurrency.

Anyway Merry Christmas to OP and to all users I'm sure people who received their gifts this Christmas is also thankful to you.

Congratulations on the success of your goodwill project, I can see some members already comment on the image of those given the charity help too, I guess many None government organizations use real time images to show as prove of legitimacy and also as a way to gain more international recognitions. Can you please sign a message from the wallet used for this donations.

That's wonderful! Giving back to the community. That's the essence of Christmas anyways. But obviously, only a few know and actually imbibe this culture of sharing. Thanks for reaching out to the down and trodden.

I am also very impressed by the OP vision and work. I myself plan to help the poor and the needy but do not have many funds to start the campaign. However, i will still try to educate people about bitcoin and this does not require any money. Where there is a will, there is a way.

There are many people who are willing to help needy people but due to so much scam around us people are fearful in donating money to projects. As far as Christmas is concerned, people spend too much on it along with new year. We can cut down expense on Christmas and donate same to needy people. That is true spirit of Christmas.

We, as humans, must help each other. because the world will be better if more people in the world help needy people. Especially celebrating
Christmas by using the Bitcoins that we have partially to help the homeless or the poor that is what a lot of people have to do nowadays.
Moreover, with the pandemic that has not ended, the number of poor people is increasing. Hopefully what the OP is doing can be followed
by many rich people who do have extra money that can be used to help needy people. Christmas will be more beautiful and meaningful
if it is celebrated not only with our own families, but used to create charity events to help others.

Its not really compulsory or mandatory when it comes to donation or something like this but showing off support with these kind of good deed is always nice but be careful because not all would really be

true and just like other users been saying that some do make this situation to scam out people. If this one is actually true then helping  those homeless people do always end up that good impression
by the community.

The world would be a better place if people would really be helping each other or support to those who are in need.

.....and there it goes, another person with a good heart that understands that Christmas is a period of love and it must be shared and that they're many out there that can't even afford one square meal per-day; not as if he took over the responsibility of feeding them for a lifetime but he did fed them once with which these people will pray with joy in their heart that might change his lifetime(the donator).
I'm really happy with what I'm seeing because the economy is really frustrating and most people are getting insane over depression but you(Sato princess) played your part, to this generosity I say may God create a part of blessings for you, Amen!

This is a real feel good story "Christmas In the Slums" and one we can use during these tough times around the world.

The power of bitcoin stems far beyond this website and these pictures of Bardeh and the Nigerian children shows this.

These kinds of posts make me believe that there are still so many kind people in the world despite all of the bad things and events that has been happening. Humanity is something that should be innate in us. Love, compassion, and kindness really go a very long way, hence we should often practice it because after all, it costs nothing to be empathetic to other people. Your initiative to help those who are in need most especially now that we are still in the middle of a pandemic is something to be proud of. Indeed, Christmas (for those believers and are practicing this occasion) is the season of giving. Bitcoin together with other cryptocurrencies in the market has given us opportunities to grow, make an income, and learn new skills that we could use in our daily lives. With that being said, it is really heartwarming to pay it forward to the community. Giving back to those who are in need as a sign of gratitude for what bitcoin has done in transforming our lives is such a joyful event that anyone would done for.

It's really the little things. Small donation can go a very long way and could mean a lot for those you have extended helped to. Hopefully, by next year I would be able to share my blessings as well to those less fortunate once the market starts pumping again. Please do continue this good work and may your deeds come back tenfolds.

I totally love the gesture behind this campaign, Christmas is a time really for giving, not just to family and close friends, but also to those who are in need. Many of these people in the slums and the homeless have never experienced any form of love from anyone, it is always good to remind them that there is still some good in the world. I sincerely hope this gesture continues next year in a bigger and better way. As a suggestion, i think the sensitisation about cryptocurrency and the opportunities in it to those who have an interest will go a long way.

I'm by far impressed with the foundation you guys have started and the zeal you have to see it push through. It is a notable one, one that demonstrates the nature we opt to adopt as humans towards one another. A core pillar of Muslims in a Christain celebration. Giving! It's not always an easy thing to give knowing that, you are most likely to get nothing back but in the real sense, you get everything back.

The singular smiles you put on the faces of those whom receive whatever from you, its one that is provoked out of love, out of the charity you render, out of the puzzles on there heart of how to go through the day and with one unexpected move, you all put there minds at ease. That's is the reward from Giving and you are blessed in these people.

Thank you!

@SatoPrincess, your gesture is highly commendable in all ramifications. To make it a double commendation is the fact that you're even a lady doing all this. I hope more female will come into this crypto space in our country and help push Bitcoin awareness further. Putting the name of this forum on the giveaway pack is good thinking too. I sincerely hope though that the addition of forum to the website bitcointalkforum.org won't mislead anyone to a wrong hand as that site is totally different from our bitcointalk.org site.

This is a very good thing, I always say that those people who can help others who need it the most will be blessed, not only the people who do it but their families as well, and if it is through BTC already being a person who is suffering from hunger and can feed it is something that reaches God. I´m sure that people who follow this example will never lack their food and good things in life, sometimes giving away is more enjoyable, I would like to have a lot of money to help others, I really want to one day reach that level .

Hopefully more of this comes true, if the rich won't help us then we will just help each other out, it seems to be the only way for us. I really wanted to help on this kind of cause so I have donated some of my money towards typhoon relief in my country. Good job OP spreading positivity despite all the problems that this world is facing.
