Title: Best offline portfolio tracker?
Post by: cryptoblitzen on December 27, 2021, 06:47:21 PM
What do you suggest as best portfolio tracker that's not connected to any wallet?

Features that Im looking for:

1. Options too add crypto balances manually.
2. Add transactions, buy and sell.
3. USD Profit and loss calculation based on crypto balances day by day. How much I gained or lost due to onboarding new cryptos to portfolio.
4. Information stored on my hardware not any 3rd party servers.

I can add this information all manually within excel, but it takes too much time and should be automated.

I think blockfolio used to do most of these. I'm not sure whether the data is stored on your pc though or whether it's stored on their servers too. (so it has 1, 2 and 3 and you could also link it to exchanges if you wanted).

One fo the best way option is to register and create your portfolio on Coingecko website, but remember to use some temp email you are using only for that purpose.
Coingecko also have apps for Android and iPhones, so you can install and use that on your phones as well (you don't need to add any wallet address information).
Alternatives for Coingecko are Delta, FTX (ex Blockfolio), CoinStats and people release new stuff all the time, I even saw one posted in bitcointalk forum few days ago.

I tend to agree above that the common portfolio tracker is the Blockfolio app and that was the app that I used before.

Alternatively, there are too many of them but here I drop some of them that you might have to take a look if on this portfolio tracker the feature that you are looking for and I think to do a little DYOR for this.

Most of the tools suggested above are online If an offline portfolio tracker is what you looking for I think excel or spreadsheets is only the available tool out there that you can run offline.

Can you check this spreadsheet here https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/n5tvpv/due_to_a_high_number_of_requests_ive_updated_my/
And I think all of them are automated compared to your excel?

You can also find more tracker here "Spreadsheet for Crypto Porfolio (https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/spreadsheets-for-crypto-portfolio/)" and "Awesome Crypto tracker (https://github.com/SpiralDevelopment/Awesome-Crypto-Trading#trackers)"

I have an open source program suggestion that may be of use to you - Portfolio Performance[1]. You can simply install it on your machine and since it's open source everyone is able to audit it at any given time. It has the most used indicators (Time-weighted return[2], Internal rate of return[3]) and many more. As you might have guessed, the program is more geared towards more ... "traditional" investment portfolios, and thus the program isn't natively ready to accept / register your crypto transactions.

However, fear not! Follow this guide[4] and you'll be able to add BTC as an option to start tracking your trades! To give you an idea of the overall information that the program calculates, you can have a look here[5]:

What about altcoins you ask? It's a bit more tricky but doable, you just have to follow this[5] comment further below and you'll be able to add whatever coin listed by CoinGecko. If you are indeed interested in this route I can help you further since I've used the program in the past for some experiments and know my way around it.

I'm just using coingecko as tracker since it's aggregate all the average price of the tokens as long as the tokens are listed on their site. I think it's same with coinmarketcap app. I can even see the negative an dposiitve gains on using it and not necessary to load your account personally and can add manually the quantity of the tokens and you could monitor its progress everyday.

For those who wondering where's the source code, it's available on https://github.com/buchen/portfolio (https://github.com/buchen/portfolio) (i managed to find out since they use GitHub to host the installer/binary). Too bad their forum/help page only available on German language.

I agree with you, excel tools are the closest to the offline method. but still, they have to go online at some point to collect updated data, market changes etc...
If OP doesn't want to share personal info about his portfolio value or whatever, it sounds like an impossible mission. All trackers at the end must go to external services to pick market changes data. I guess, the full offline tracker only can be if you input all changes mannually.

When we talk about trackers by spreadsheets, here is another solution

What do you mean by offline? How can a portfolio tracker work offline it's impossible, internet is needed to give information on present price, all the crypto trackers I know always ask for internet connection

You can manually add prices yourself using a custom software or through a spreadsheet(it's actually pretty basic MS Excel stuff). It can definitely be tedious especially if you're holding a good amount of different coins/tokens, but it's not impossible unless you like refreshing your portfolio every 5-10 minutes.

I think what he meant is that he does not want his portfolio information stored in some server of an online portfolio manager he is using but rather have everything stored in his local device. Internet would only come in when updating the profit and loss manually.

I don't know if @OP already made the choice, but I wonder why Rotki (https://rotki.com/) hasn't been suggested yet.

The base application is fully open-source and it met all OP requirements:

1. Adding Manual Balances. (https://rotki.readthedocs.io/en/latest/usage_guide.html#adding-manual-balances)
2. Adding manual trades (https://rotki.readthedocs.io/en/latest/usage_guide.html#adding-manual-trades)
3. Creating a profit/loss report (https://rotki.readthedocs.io/en/latest/usage_guide.html#creating-a-profit-loss-report)
4. Locally stored data (https://rotki.readthedocs.io/en/latest/faq.html#why-should-i-use-it)

I do personally use Rotki, and so far so good to meet all of my simple portfolio tracking tools. So, @OP if you haven't decided yet, try to look around on that, see if it's a match.
