The one they are sending to the moon will just be a token as shown.
The limited ones that will be released to the public will probably look a little bit different if they do employ the standard hologram/key as we are used to.

Yep just looks like a token - shame,  it would be great for it to be a loaded item .

Vid is worth a little watch - purely to see the broken down doge Lambo - nice touch  :)

So why do they say on site

In Summer 2022, BitMEX and Astrobotic are sending a unique physical coin to the Moon, loaded with 1 Bitcoin.

   I mean....what's the point if it isn't actually loaded? ??? ::)

ah, so it does:

So maybe they have not finalized the design...

  I messaged them for clarification

They responded as follows...

The hologram has been applied over the private key and the coin has been delivered to Astrobotic for testing and payload integration. We've not introduced any public photos or renders of this yet but will be doing so in the coming weeks.

I would love to see the coin when they release the renders and photos. This is definitely a big deal for crypto as a whole.

Born too late to explore earth
Born too early to search for the BTC Bitmex sent to the Moon because it makes economic sense due to the future price of Bitcoin  :)

This will probably end up being the most famous physical collectable.

Interesting project! I hope sending the coin to the moon is not the only purpose of that mission though...
It might become a popular physical coin, but I don't think it will reach the status of Casascius collectibles. But let's wait first and see what they have planned to release first  :)

I meant the one on the moon will be the most famous of all. Lets hope they encapsulate it properly and the priv keys are hopefully etched into the metal and not paper.

Someday, one of us will want to drop by to pick up and add to our collection! ;) :D

I agree. It doesn't just become the most famous physical bitcoin, but high on the list of all collectibles any category.

Steeley

Also, how do we get one of these coins offered to earthlings?! No info on this yet.

I was wondering... if the hologram / glue applied / private key printed paper (etc.) will survive the moon surface climate.  ???

Is anyone knowledgeable enough to comment on the possible effects? (cosmic radiation etc. etc. that might affect the coin condition).

I assume it depends on various factors such as coin metal(s) composition, encapsulation (plastic?), private key etched of paper printed etc. + on the total time that coin will remain on the surface.

If engraved on the metal and placed in a metal container...hopefully it will survive.

Maybe they should have used a NastyFans Minted Seat coin.   :P

Seriously though, this is pretty awesome.  I hope the coins they offer are denominated smaller than 1 BTC because I'd like to own one but I'm not sure locking more of my BTC into a collectible I'll never sell or peel is a good idea...  The thought of some "enterprising" person going to the moon to find 1 BTC is pretty cool.  Who knows, maybe someday Bitcoin will become so valuable that it actually helps pay for the cost of the trip to the moon.   :D
