Title: Crypterium has held my BTC hostage for almost a month with no end in sight.
Post by: kingjudas on January 05, 2022, 07:29:04 AM
On December 12th, 2021 I had purchased $250 of BTC in Crypterium on their iPhone app as I have done many times before. When I attempted about an hour later to withdraw my funds to an external wallet, I received a generic error message. I contact Crypterium who asked to see a screenshot, then told me they would be escalating this to the "appropriate department". I enquired further as to what the issue was and they simply said a technical problem and signed off. About a week later I hadn't heard anything back from them, and had tried to withdraw the BTC from their online platform as well, received the same generic error message telling me to contact support. Fast forward to January 5th, 2022 and I still haven't heard from them even after following up numerous times and still can't withdraw my crypto. Any suggestions on what or how to proceed?

They still have an active thread and they have a representative that's posting updates and news on their thread[1].

[1] https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2214098.0

You can post this issue there and see if that representative can help you out with this problem that you're dealing with them. I think that he can help you to address it to the "appropriate department" regards to your problem.

I don't understand what does they mean about appropriate department, even they have a representative here... they are still suggest to contact the support via email and there's no update with it.

my withdrawal of funds, transfer to other wallets was disabled. Help, what can I do? I can only exchange cryptocurrency between my accounts, I cannot withdraw it from the wallet. Writes an error, technical support does not respond for 3 days.

Unfortunately, you will need to contact our security team at support@crypterium.com and send them a screenshot of the error you are receiving. Only they can unlock the feature.

Can you add some proof when you encounter the error messages? Also don't forget to keep update with your problem either resolved or still unsolved, I'll tag the representative here if they're can't fix your problems.

First I don't think they are operate in 170 countries (Not even close to 100)
according to ---> https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/crypterium.com?stars=1 they have too many of "unsolved cases" started from last Dec, So you are not the only one and I hope they are not selective scammers.

Unfortunately, the service is centralized and they have your money, so you can only contact the support team and try to open Scam topic.
They may ask you to complete KYC, but if you think that your data is more than $250, I do not advise you to do so.

If I am not wrong they have such kind of unsolved cases from time to time but still you managed to trade their for many times. I don't think it is a technical error because if it was there should be lot of people facing the same issue at the same time not from time to time so its kind of look like a selective scamming to me. But still you can wait for the reply from their support and if they keep sending you the same e-mails again then just forget the money because you have been scammed.

That's mean.

The service department will be forwarded to the developer/department who processes some part of the transaction issue because the service center doesn't have any ability to solve the problem. They only take care
- Communication service
- Forwarded any issue or message.

I think @OP should keep insist to spam their telegram, email and of your ticket support.

Yes, here is the error message I receive, I have tried on the web and my iPhone. On web I tried to see what the Network requests say I'll include that as well. Thanks for your help. https://i.imgur.com/GtTfioE.jpg https://i.imgur.com/hFxb0of.png

It is also worth noting they have blocked me on their Twitter account and their telegram chat for asking for updates, etc. on the issue.

I have never heard of Cryperterium so I have no input if its a scam or not. However how did you buy the $250 worth of BTC exactly? Did you buy by Credit Card? If so you can try and call your credit card company and make a chargeback. Before you do this however contact them again, threatened to call the CC company and they will usually try and do what they can to prevent a chargeback on their account.

In the future don't use these unknown bitcoin exchanges. Use Coinbase or Crypto.com or Kraken or Gemini, even if they got higher fees. They got more support staff and you won't get issues such as this on their platform.

The most common complaint in the negative reviews is about their support is shitty, and they don't work on resolving the issue in time, so I am not surprised to see that it's almost a month, and they haven't responded to you.

Avoid such unpopular services that do not invest so much in customer support in future when carrying out transactions.

These would only work properly if you are US citizen I guess. They are definitely among the best but don't be surprised if their customer support is also terrible.

Personally, for most people not in US, I would even just go to Localbitcoins to get my coins. You still KYC there but the escrow and problem resolution is really good from the site.

I don't think threatening them about chargeback would change anything because they already blocked OP in their social media support channels.

I would say that every nation has at least one local exchange that is trustworthy, it is the global scams that you have to be careful about. In my nation we have known exchanges and they are all fine, nobody really gets their money stolen from there, then we hear from the news that some exchange I have never heard of before got away with stealing a billion dollars worth of crypto from their users.

First of all I have been in crypto for nearly 9 years now, if I haven't heard of it, that means the billion dollar amount is a lie, I would know all the exchanges in my nation at this point, secondly there are some which has been around for 5+ years at the very least, some even more than that, one has been around since 2014, so if you can't trust that and go to some other place that's a bit on you. Focus on the trustworthiness and the age and you will find good local exchanges.

Op I saw that they already answered you:

I have also tried to exchange it to another currency which I can do, but still can't send to any external wallet or even another user. I also cannot cash it out to my debit card or bank account. Fast forward to January 6th, 2022 and I still haven't heard from them even after following up numerous times and still can't withdraw my crypto. Any suggestions on what or how to proceed?

All matters on doing up some bit of research before proceeding on things because you would definitely putting yourself in harm or situations like this if things turns out to be shitty.

No exchange platforms could be trusted and this is where we do stick out into those who are long time running yet they had established out their name and reputation but always

have that mindset on not to trust them 100% most of the time because we know that odds or chances of experiencing some scams or hacks would really be there.

Yes these days it’s very easy to google stuff. You just put in “site name scam” and see what pops up. If it’s a scam it won’t take very long to find out. I’m surprised that people send their hard earned money to services like this. But I guess we were all newbies once and we might of also made the same mistake.

Whether the site is legit or not, the fact that they blocked him is not a good sign. No legit service would block someone just because they had a complaint. The only way I can see of why he was blocked might of been because he was using foul language and they had no choice. Either way just be glad it’s only $250 and not something in the 5-6 figures.

well you know what it means mate. Because if its a legitimate platform perhaps they already fixed that issue., usually 2 to 3 days is enough time when it comes such problems even 24hrs they can fix it if they really want you to withdraw your money.. But see until now no response and changes when you're trying to process it. So it's totally scam mate better to make research..

I would think the same but the fact is I don't really know how it is elsewhere. I guess most 1st world countries have no problem, and I think in Asia where it's developed, but I really don't know the situation in Africa or South America, just guessing that it's not as easy as it's here where internet and digital money is already very well developed,

I also wouldn't trust exchanges that have "never been hacked" because these guys tend to only report when found out and keep everything secret until it's too late.

Well, am from Africa and I can tell you we have really good local exchanges over, first, we have luno, luno has been around since God knows when and I started using them in 2016, and since then up until last year when I used them last, I've never had any issues.

Another good one is Remitano, this exchange has been around since 2014 and I started using them since 2016 as well and have never had issues with them till today I used them last, Remitano recently created their own coin which means they are actually advancing to the international standards soon, for those interested, the coin call renec is  currently been distributed for free to every user of the platform, both new and old, anyone interested in knowing how to get their own share of this gem should join me on telegram here https://t.me/renec_remitano (https://t.me/renec_remitano).

Luno is from Asia! So glad to know they are also doing really well, I guess the situation is very much changed since 2016/2017 as at that time a lot of Africans I knew were just doing P2P selling/buying since there wasn't any exchange easy to do this there.

Which part of Africa are you in? Binance was supposed to be big there but they pulled out everywhere 2 years ago or something right?

Thanks for sharing, and are there any big p2p there now besides localbitcoin?

Binance is still fully operational for Africans. I believe Africa is a huge market for the exchange. In fact, it has lots of Nigerians on its platform doing P2P to the point that CZ Binance had to include Naira, the Nigeria local currency as an asset. I know @Fivestar4everMVP can attest to that.

I haven't said completely this is a scam or not, because as far as I can see they have been operating for a long time. And now we found the charges in 2022. It's a shame if your funds are non-refundable. As many people have said who have advised you to stay in touch with them on all social media channels. Telegram, Twitter, and also send continuous support orders via email that has been provided. One more keep in touch with them through the online service contained in the application.

Crypterium has always exhibited red flags for me and i have never trusted these guys. I have tried to buy cryptocurrencies like bitcoin on their platform and they always asked for extra kyc documents which i thought was too much to ask from them, felt they were just harvesting user data but whatever their excuse i left them and never looked back. But seeing them in the media for the wrong reasons makes me feel vindicated! Hope they can solve this issue asap.

Yeah, am here to attest to that, our local currency, "naira" is listed on binance exchange and even the Nigerians binance telegram group has over 75 thousands members, this is to show how big the Nigerian crypto community is.
I did not mention binance p2p in my initial post above because I've never used it, I use binance exchange alot for day to day crypto trading but I've never used the local p2p part of the exchange because I still like and want to stick with remitano.

I have to apologize then, it would seem that I was misled by the news. I actually can't find the old news as I definitely remember in 2020 they had a big thing in Africa and they decided to move out a lot of offices. I don't know which country exactly, all I know is that is was somewhere there.

And then in October there was this news: https://www.businessinsider.in/investment/news/crypto-exchange-binance-ends-derivatives-trading-and-other-offerings-in-south-africa/articleshow/86878699.cms

So it does seem like something happened in South Africa, but maybe not Nigeria?
