Title: Wallet Exodus: experiences ? What do you think?
Post by: Lammertrix on January 16, 2022, 12:17:41 PM
Exodus, i have seen so many recensions on it, very bad and very good. I do not know what to think.

Anyone is using it, Do you like it ?  There is a valid alternative ?

I need a desktop wallet, non-custodial for the major altcoins, especially Solana (SOL) and Near (NEAR).

Exodus seem to be the main widespread option, am i wrong ?

Sorry for any grammar mistakes english is not my mother tongue.

Thank you.

i have been using exodus and trezor since a few years ago and im still good with it.

I do like this wallet so much. Cool UI, good security, and it can also be integrated with trezor. I know that trezor has a better reputation than ledger in term of security. If you're looking for alternative and there was alot of alternative wallet like coinomi.

I thought that exodus is good enough.

Exodus wallet is a non custodial wallet and it's great because you own private key of your wallet. However, that wallet is not completely open source that is a minus point for people who seriously believe in open source.

This wallet is for multiple coins so you will do have good comfortable experience when you use it to store multiple coins.

I use exodus as my BTC wallet for my bounty rewards from my signature campaign here on this forum for a year now or so and i have to say i never had any problems with it. I also used it recently to collect all my little amounts that i somewhere get from airdrops. I sold them on the exchanges for Stellar sent all those stellar to my Exodus wallet and from there i sent it to another exchange to sell the Stellar. Everything worked great. Of course there is always some risk evolved if you have a wallet that is connected with the internet on your personal computer especially if it is the same computer that you also use for gaming, chatting or whatever.

I believe it isn't whether it is open sources or not but rather do people can trust enough a closed source wallet that's held our funds or not. Noting the closed nature of the developments, personally, I'm having a hard time trusting some hidden code that "held" my funds, who know what kind of code is built-in within those applications. I believe if there is a reliable open-source alternative, people should be in favour of that instead of a closed sourced one. Technically, it is way more better in term of transparency and code audit checks.

Though, I do were once use Exodus wallet, and it was a pleasant experience in terms of user experiences. But the closed-source nature is really a no go for me.

Thank you all for your opinions.

I hope Exodus will be fine for me.

The most important thing for me is security (knowing that software wallets have intrinsic limits on this)
and the support for the main alt-coins.

That's the best choice for now. Im also still using this desktop wallet. Im using combination between some dekstop wallet as well. Glad to see that you're taking this desktop wallet.

I do agree with it and so far exodus has some layers of security and that will make your funds will be safe as long as you are not doing something wrong and your money will safe. So many people are getting hijacked caused by they were also accessing various sites without known whether that sites contain malware or something suspicious that can hijack our desktop or not.

I know but people technically want to use open source wallets more than close source wallets. Or at least it is what they said. I know difference between what people said and what they actually did.

Many people say they like DEX but they use CEX more than DEX. They say they are fearful of losing their coins on CEX because they don't have private key but they still use CEX.

I wrote that Exodus is a good wallet if you don't mind too much about open source or close source

Exodus wallet is now a old crypto wallet so it's popular and we'll known by crypto users, so far I haven't heard about any negativity from anyone pointing to exodus wallet, just safeguard your private key or recovery seed you will be fine

I can't remember an alternative of exodus for desktop wallet. For multi crypto wallet, people these days usually use Trust wallet mostly or safepal. Both are available in mobile but you can check out whether they have desktop wallet or not. If I'm correct they don't have it yet.
