Title: Have I lost my funds at Electrum?
Post by: min_da_verdade on February 06, 2022, 03:42:19 PM
Well, I opened an LN channel a couple of months ago through Electrum. I tried to get a value from LN and couldn't, at some point I forced the channel to close. My funds were zeroed out. I talked to some people who told me that my funds would be back in Electrum in about two weeks.

Well, two months have passed, my funds have not returned, and now the channel status shows "FUNDED".

I have lost my funds, what can it be?

Can you send a screenshot of the channel and the initial transaction if that isn't private?

If it's listed as funded, the channel is probably still open.

Likely not the case here but just in case it's helpful: I think there's a CHANCE funds are claimable by the cosigner if you don't bring electrum back online once a fortnight but it'd have to be initiated by the other node.

If you close a channel, you will see it on your transaction history, once it is confirmed (just like when you saw open channel on the transaction history when you opened a channel), you will also see it as confirmed transaction just like onchain transaction. Check your transaction history, make sure the channel closed has been confirmed already just like onchain transaction, you will see it marked as green. If not yet getting it correctly, I think Rath_ will provide you more accurate information that you need.

If you close a channel, it supposed not to be funded, it supposed to have changed to REDEEMED.

Yes, I opened a channel with the maximum amount. I forced the channel to close and it is showing up in my transaction history with a green tick. The problem is that my funds have not come back. Hopefully there is a way. I didn't really send anyone my funds, I am a Hodler. If I manage to get the funds back, I will never open a channel at Electrum again, it was traumatizing for me hahaha. I'll use the LN mobile wallets anyway (Wallet of Satoshi, Blue Wallet etc)

Like this?

You can see channel closed written in red?

With your above image (https://imgur.com/a/KYlR4WF), likely you opened another channel, you did not closed it, it will change from FUNDED to REDEEMED when it closed.

Yes, like this. But i don't see the description like your print.

Is there any point in me asking you to close the channel now? I was trying to close, but gave error because the gossip was enabled. Could I disable it and ask to close the channel?

Another thing: I paid a 13 cents USD tax, maybe it wouldn't be this low tax amount that justifies this whole delay?

Yes, you can disable it safely. Try closing the channel again. In the worst case scenario, you might see an error that the inputs have already been spent.

No, it doesn't matter.

Those two transactions look to me like funding transactions and not closing or commitment transactions.

I have already tried to force it to close again. However, a gossip error appeared. So I deactivated gossip and waited for the LN to synchronize. Finally, the close request was sent, I am waiting for the status to go from "FUNDED" to "REDEEMED".

I don't know what kind of transaction this is. I only know that I opened an LN channel on Electrum, my balance disappeared, it appeared going away in my transactions list, and I didn't send my entire balance to anyone. If I get my funds again, I will never open an LN channel on Electrum again. As I said, I prefer to stick to normal custodial wallets, like BlueWallet, Wallet of Satoshi etc.

That's how Lightning works. You send your coins to a multi-signature address controlled by you and the other node. Once the funding transaction reaches a couple of confirmations, you can spend those coins only over the Lightning Network. You can withdraw your balance to your on-chain address if you close the channel either cooperatively or uncooperatively (via a commitment transaction). Commitment transactions are signed by both parties when the state of the channel changes (fee update, incoming/outgoing Lightning transactions). They can enforce the current off-chain balance of the channel on-chain.

So, to get the funds I sent again, just by forcing the channel to close? And for that I depend on the other node? Well, you already have some confirmations (specifically 9400 lmao)

A cooperative close involves one transaction. A force close involves two transactions - one of which is a commitment transaction. Your wallet should broadcast the second transaction automatically after a certain time (usually 144 blocks) since the commitment transaction has been confirmed. The force close should be initiated only if the other party is offline or unwilling to cooperate.

I have no idea why you had to force close your channel twice.

Well, I have already asked for the channel to be closed. All I can do is wait. But thanks anyway.

Any update, I'll keep replying
