Title: FBI Warns of Rise in Bay Area Romance Scams
Post by: Oshosondy on February 12, 2022, 10:55:46 AM
According to the latest data, romance scams are on the rise across the Bay Area, and the FBI San Francisco field office is warning the public about new trends in romance scams ahead of Valentine’s Day. In 2021, complaints filed with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) showed that victims within the FBI San Francisco division’s territory lost more than $64 million to romance scams compared to just over $35 million in 2020. IC3 received 742 complaints within the Northern District of California last year compared to 720 in 2020 and 526 in 2019.

This has been according to what has been happening even before Valentine's day, it is good to tell our spouce, siblings and other relatives, young and old about this scam especially if you are living in the area this scam is common. Romance scam is not only about Valentine's day, it is common, I have known about romance scam when I was young and people do fall victim of it according to what I read about it many years ago. We should not believe who is calling us, chatting with us that we have not seen face to face before, even if you have seen face to face before, it is good to still be very careful.

Seems more and more people tend to need somd more loving, lol. But seriously though, this happens anywhere in the world, and is a real problem. What makes it more difficult to eradicate is the fact the people are embarrassed to admit that they have been scammed and just think of it as a simple bad luck. In some cases, syndicates capitalize on these scams and scares victims and if unlucky, may even murder. If governments do not take this seriously, the numbers will just continue to rise.

P.S. if anyone wants to hire a thirdweel on your valentine's day, I'm all ears. I can carry bags, stand in line in your place and more. 🤣🤣🤣

Romans scam is everywhere. Catfishing alone is already a romance scam that usually happens on dating sites or even on Facebook.

When it involves a big amount of money, that's when it becomes a crime. Sometimes even the old lady who you would think had enough of her life but still thinks of romance still and then fall victim to a lover who asks money from her. Swindlers are everywhere in this world. It's worse for a teenager age 14 that is more likely going to be raped if she falls and rides the car of a pedo.

The Bay Area is littered with crime these days.  This scam seems like the least of Bay Area residents' concern.  Have you seen the videos of people robbing stores and just walking out like nothing happened?  Security guards aren't allowed to even step in and ask them to pay.  Police won't respond unless the theft is greater than $500.  It's a whole other world down there.  Homelessness and crime is out of control to the point where people have just accepted it in their daily lives.  You can't park a car on the street with any sort of valuables in it and expect it not to be broken into.  There is feces on the street that is considered normal.  Honestly, the Bay Area is a perfect example of the failure of the left to govern and I feel sorry for anyone who grew up there and still lives there out of a love for their hometown.  It is unrecognizable to the Bay Area I knew and loved as a young adult.
