Title: What Was Your First Bitcoin Collectible?
Post by: slimzak on February 15, 2022, 03:20:43 AM
Hi all,

I saw a recent thread of a person who posted his first collectible, which was a satori, and it had me curious of what everyone's first collectible was.

My first coin collectible was an MS68 0.01 BTC Factory Funded Denarium that was purchased off of eBay for $900 in February 2021.

Please share with us your story and pictures of the collectible if possible! :D

Here is a picture!

My 1st coins were a pre & post fork Satori last month.  Been on the hunt for beautiful physical crypto ever since 😍

Sweet MS-68 denarium you got there. My first Bitcoin collectible that I acquire here is the Luckybit gold rose coin which is been given away here by luckybit casino around 2015 to 2016(not sure about exact date). I purchase the coin that won by my colleagues here in the forum and it start my addiction to collect more physical tokens here.

Sadly I gave the coin to my close friend workmate  as parting gift when I leave my old company.

2019 I bought a prefork Satori for $60 and the three Anonymous coins in the encyclopedia for $3 each on ebay. I had no idea what I was doing and then didn't really get anything else until Jan 2021. Should have bought more Satoris!

Great story coin_trader!

It seems like most people started off with satori!

Mopar, very interesting to know you were involved in bitcoin right from the beginning. I hope to get to know more of your story and how you were introduced to bitcoin at such an early stage!

Thanks for sharing. Keep it coming!

my first collectibles were the Satori poker chips - you can find them in my ccc thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5275792.0)
with these Satoris my passion for collecting started in 2020 and still continues today.

All the above sound really intriguing and would love to see pics of these.
The thread could be turned into one of those P0rn threads, "The Bitcoin
Collectible P0rn Thread"

Here is my first collectible, its not a coin nut a paperwallet by Polymerbit
which in their own rights have become collectibles.

Casascius 1BTC Silver/Gilt from Mike Caldwell

Edit...also managed to get a signed business card by Mike witha BTC hand drawn image  ;)

That had to be displayed! Nice job on the frame and layout!

I have one just like it with Mike Caldwells signature and BTC doodle in the back!  :)

Good luck on your auction I will be keeping an eye on this and am sure you will get what you are looking for!  ;)

Thank you, I can never remember the image code. Ah, you're lucky to have one with his signature and artwork on it :)

Right click on the imgur image...click on properties and then copy URL addy. That simple mate  ;)

When I bought my only coin from Mike it was a silver/gilt 2013.

I asked him for his autograph and he was kind enough to do that and also add the extra bonus of the BTC doodle on his business card  :D

Unfunded denarium dove coin purchased in may 2020 for $125

I got my hands on it and the obsession began.

Since 2020 prices of physical crypto have gone up a lot. Some pieces still remain elusive and hard to find.

First (loaded) collectible was a Cas. Met crypto Steve in the lovely island Barbados 🇧🇧 and took my 9 year old son along for the “business trip” to meet Steve and grab the coin

It all went downhill from there after I found this niche and even scarcer section of the Rabbit 🐇 hole 🕳

These treasures  are only going to get scarcer as more serious collectors learn about the space.

In maybe 2013 I bought a loaded 2011 cas s1 error coin off eBay for 2x face value. And thus the addiction began. Graded it in 2019 came out as a MS68. Probably the only coin I'd never sell.

I'd have to dig through a long list to find out what my first Bitcoin collectible was to be totally honest, but if memory were to serve me correctly I believe it was either the first Casascius coin with the hologram error, or the 1g .999 silver round by MJB Monetary Metals (Mick).  This is different from the first collectible I bought with Bitcoin, which I believe was a 1oz American Eagle that I bought from Trader Steve.  This actually got me interested in the silver for Bitcoin trade and I launched my own online store that sold various silver coins.  That later led to me creating my own silver Bitcoin collectible as I dove head first into this hobby.  So thanks to Mick, Mike, & Steve for sending me down the rabbit hole in various ways.  :)

My first Bitcoin collectible was a white poker chip from BTCC Mint loaded with 0.001 BTC. I've bought it on eBay for just $13.99. That was 5 years ago.

After I got my first "physical" Bitcoin, I went down the rabbit hole by adding more coins to my collection. It's now 2022 and I'm still buying like crazy. :P

OgNasty - Thanks for sharing such an intriguing story of your first collectible and how it eventually pushed you into becoming a silver btc coin creator.

Abiky - As i am reading all the posts here, it sounds like we all met the same fate.. it all started with one coin and the addiction began.. lol!

I don't post a lot in this section, but I do appreciate the small number of collectible stuff I've managed to acquire since I joined bitcointalk.

I'm not exactly sure if any of these things were my absolute first bitcoin collectibles, but aside from a few stickers provided to me by BayAreaCoins I can't remember anything I'd acquired before them:

https://i.imgur.com/08cp9iL.jpg

The gold and silver colored tokens were given to me by minerjones a while back, and the silver skull I won in an auction from Zepher's estate after he died.

https://i.imgur.com/xsogsex.jpg

The above copper coins I also got from minerjones when he (I think) produced them in honor of Zepher, and that's the backside of the silver skull.  I didn't know Zepher personally, but he was beloved in the Collectibles section and I've always thought it was extremely kind of the community to acknowledge his presence the way you did.  I've been meaning to get capsules for the copper coins but just never get around to doing it.

Anyone else have any of these and know what capsule size fits them best?  Yes, I've measured them, but there are so many different-sized capsules on the market that I don't know which one would be the correct size.

Silver Wallets Design 1 & 2.

If anybody has a 'Design 1 with Gold Trim' spare... I'm always open for reasonable trades and enough doubles of other collectibles to make it a Win-Win.

edit: 4 more Win-Win & gotcha, Design 3^^

Mine was also a 2015 Denarium (the Horse) Still in the original package on ebay about 6-7 months ago. Paid way to much for sure (since got the same coin on here graded for a 1/4 of the price). But after that I was hooked. Spent alot of money on ebay before I found this unbelievable group of like minded individuals. I feel late to the party but deep down I know somehow we're all still early. As it seems about 10-15% of the people in crypto I meet, actually even know physicals exists or most dont care. But it is the most addicting thing I have ever collected. It has also connected me with some amazing people that I would call friends.

So cool. My first was the 2011 error, but it was pretty banged up. Tried to have a guy throw in a business card like that to sweeten the deal on some silver ones I bought, but no such luck. Wasn’t even signed, but man I wanted it badly! Sweet piece of history sir. Bravo.

Like many others, I too first bought the Satori poker chip.  Then the Encyclopedia of physical crypto.  The rest is history haha.

I collected coins since I was like 8-9 years old but really picked it back up around 2011 or so. I was buying some copper rounds at the time (which everyone told me I was crazy but copper has doubled in value since and I liked how some looked) and came across these. I knew of Bitcoin for maybe 2 years before hand, had just recently learned about the hacktavist group Anonymous, and absolutely loved that the two were combined. It didn’t take long for me to shift my collectibles buys to a heavier crypto percentage.

Very interesting merging the two hobbies together.. I can say I had a similar story of merging my love for rare discontinued items with bitcoin which is also rare and discontinued ;D
