Title: Twitter enables users to make and receive ethereum payments
Post by: nwscoin on February 19, 2022, 06:20:50 PM
In September 2021, Twitter  (https://nwscoin.blogspot.com/2022/02/twitter-enables-users-to-make-and.html)made Bitcoin payments available as the first cryptocurrency payment option available through the tip pot. On Wednesday, the social media platform added a large number of new payment services to existing tip options, including Ethereum (ETH).

Users looking to receive an Ethereum tip simply need to enable platform features and add an Ethereum address to the dedicated section of their profile. However, the attempt to add an ENS domain name instead of a full digital alphabet address proved unsuccessful, resulting in the appearance of an error box indicating that the numbering marks were invalid.
When it comes to Bitcoin, tips can be sent through Bitcoin's Accelerated Lightning Network, which sends payments using the Strik app. However, AOC did not provide any further details relating to the tip in Ethereum currencies. Currently, acrobatics is available only for iOS and Android phone users. According to Twitter, users keep 100% of the donations they receive.

The company has stated that tips can be used to "show support, show appreciation, help or reward anyone it wants - from creators and emerging journalists to Twitter hosts Spaces.' Other payment services include Kash Ab, Go Fend Me, Patreon, Wealth Semple, and Venmo.

In recent times, Twitter has introduced a feature that allows users of Twitter Blue to download non - flashable, or NFTs, as photos of their profile, but this possibility is available only for iOS.

Good luck on sending a tip and paying the double in fees.

So what does this have to do with Bitcoin? Move it to the Altcoin Discussion.

Sorry but this is two steps back news for crypto, Twitter is a social network platform that sucks, it's centralised and it's full of spammers and scammers this will tarnish the image of crypto for a while because the teams can't even handle or provide a better security protocol to their network.

It is not even about the fee I am concerned about, what I am concerned about is for a general site meant for public to be accepting cryptocurrencies that are centralized in one way or the other.

Jack Dorsey only accepted bitcoin, he quit as Twitter CEO, then Twitter begins this rubbish of coins that are centralized in one way or the other.

I am not surprised that El Salvador only accept bitcoin, other countries that want to accept cryptocurrencies like Russia are considering only bitcoin.

The tip function only works in the mobile version, why it is not in the web is unclear to me.Although at the same time, we can fix your address in the bio and the need for the function is no longer needed.Another question is who will send these tips.

Good development coming from Twitter but we all know that ethereum right now isn't the best of cryptocurrencies as this wouldnt be the preferred choice for many when it comes to micro payments/tips...these guys need to add more coins such as litecoin to make this whole crypto integration more relevant and appealing to its users... Anyway this is a step in the right direction, hope to see more coins added.

It's full of dramas and all those related stuffs where people just go and express their feelings that they think that the whole world cares. :D
But eh, I don't think it would affect crypto at all. I have a feeling that they will pull that function out one day. It's nice to have some tipping feature but for what? What can make me tip a post composed of 280 characters, like it's just a Facebook post? :D

Starting to accept payment using the lightening network wasn't a good choice imo. I think it would better to introduce bitcoin main chain to Twitter users then adding optional sending using the lightening network.
Now it adds another cryptocurrency which is facing high fees issue.

^ Probably they will spend an amount of gas more than the amount of the tip.
ETH gas fee is too high for the microtransaction like the tip and even BTC is not the right coin for that. But if they are willing to use it, why not they are a big company that will surely afford what they want. I am afraid that Twitter will make a token and collect those addresses who claimed the prizes that possible their investors, it seems there is a hidden agenda on it. But well, good luck to them.

I disagree.  Twitter is where many of the new Cryptocurrency investors came from and having Cryptocurrency payments on it is not a bad idea at all.  Bitcoin Talk is also centralized and full of both spammers and scammers, look through any 5+ page thread and you will find at least a few dozen spammers.  Look through Altcoin announcement threads and you will find countless threads of scams.  You only have to be careful and wise enough to avoid them.

Altcoins in general are scams with a few exceptions.  Good or bad, Ethereum is still widely used and bringing it to Twitter will only attract more users.

So, why? LN is the way to pay cheap fees for bitcoin transaction. If there was no LN and anyone would be paid almost the same fees like ethereum blockchain. The point is to introduce bitcoin. Giving a good impression like bitcoin is a dencetralized blockchain with cheap transaction fees was good. So what's wrong with this?

Now it adds another cryptocurrency which is facing high fees issue.
Im sure none will be using it.

Adding ethereum as a tipping option will be totally useless due to the fees. If there was an option to use wrapped ethereum instead of real ethereum and i will prefer to pick wrapped ethereum that build in L2 blockchains.

One of the main things i do have in mind or having impression that what about the fees? How they would consider it out those transfers? considering gas fees now are on the rooftop.

It isnt really worth on making such integration but its not bad to have that one but it wont really be that practical. It would be better if they would really be

tending to add up other crypto which does have less fees and almost instant confirmation.

I do not think this will help anyone. The gas fee are pretty high at the moment for a $5 tip you would be paying $25 as fee approximately. Bitcoin fee are still less than Ethereum it will be much better to tip someone with Bitcoin than Ethereum. They should add those coins that have less transaction fee otherwise people will use fiat to tip their favourite content creator
