Title: I need a visa/mastercard that can be filled with bitcoins
Post by: PrintCoins on December 06, 2011, 10:50:59 PM
I know a few people have been doing stuff with this, but has any customers actually used a temporary visa/mastercard that can be refilled with bitcoins. I would like to pay some of my bills with bitcoins, and I would like to use a system that people have tested and is known to work.

What is the spectrum of reloadable cards?

I'm familiar with:
which accepts bitcoins to reload even.

And then I've seen that Western Union for instance sells a reloadable debit card in which the reload can be done using cash at a Western Union agent ($4.95 fee).  This might be useful to trade your bitcoins with someone who has cash and wants to buy bitcoins.
 - https://www.wuprepaid.com/wuprepaid/public/get.do?view=/public/feeTable

This method is a parallel for those who trade bitcoins for MoneyPak which they use to reload a Green Dot prepaid card or a PayPal debit card.

AurumXChange has a debit card loadable with MTGUSD or LR USD I believe.

I've not used any of these methods myself, except for some relatively small trades where I sold bitcoins for MoneyPak.

You can use a pre paid debt card from http://centregold.com/, i have one, it works, although the fees are quite high.

What has the best fees for conversion?

You can use this site to compare the rates, they change them very often http://www.bsrates.com/ (http://www.bsrates.com/).

The sequence is sell bitcoin for LR, transfer LR to Centregold, charge Payonner pre-paid card via centregold.

Try to favor less frequent and higher value charges so the fees will not escalate too much.

Seems rather convoluted, and the reviews and websites make me a little skeptical.

It would be great just to get a virtual debt card with very little setup, and just be able to fill it with bitcoins whenever I want. I could see paying a 5-10% fee on either coins going in or for each cash transaction. Then I can go on my cell phone's website and pay my bill with it (or my ISP, or anything).

Yes, i don't like they too.

I almost expected some sort of scam when i made the first (small) transfer, but the physical card arrived fine and its working ever since...

By the time I needed a debt card OKPAY was not accepting bitcoins, maybe they are a better solution now, but i don't know.

I also should have a solution for re-loadable VISA cards.  Mine will probably not be automated.  If all goes right I will be live in two weeks.

Very cool, let us know when you are up and running. Automated is over-rated, don't worry about it. Do you require identification or anything? Can you buy them in bitcoins? All of your prices seem to be in $.

This is an important thread, and I would like to see a serious success at this.
It's one of the holy grails of Bitcoin.

Unfortunately, they seem to come with great alacrity and go with great rapidity.

This one seems to be making a good effort, but struggling.

Never used it but I think it is pre-paid MasterCard that the Paxum site offers as part of their services that you can fund with a balance on it and at least the MTGox allows you to withdraw to them after selling your BTC there so something to look into.

Paxum is not a good solution.  According to this post, you can only fund the card from your own bank account.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50394.msg601789#msg601789 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=50394.msg601789#msg601789)

Dear Valued Customer,
It has come to our attention that some Paxum clients have been funding their Paxum Mastercard from other sources. Unfortunately, due to a Mastercard directive, this is not allowed and can result in the cancellation of your Paxum Mastercard. [...]

BitcoinRedLight thanks for the mention of our service.

It's not so much we were struggling we just weren't prepared for all the business. Sure, seems to be a need. We went back and have increased capacity to handle this and will be open for business within the next week  ;D

I'll post a formal customer thread soon.

Are they recurring fee's or the amount's always different ? We plan on being the first to provide a way for you to subscribe to your favorite online subscriptions using bitcoins. I suppose they could be treated as a recurring bill ?

 - Any updates on this? -

I am *very* interested in a card which can be used internationally and filled with BTC!

BTW. Does okpay deliver a real, physical card to my home address, or is this another "online credit card" thing?

!!!
oOo

I also provide re-loadable virtual visa cards which require no id and are valid for one year.
