Title: Bitcoin Aid/Fund for the needy people in the Ukraine/Russia War
Post by: UmerIdrees on March 09, 2022, 10:46:59 AM
I was thinking that wouldn't it be good if some reputed members of the bitcointalk open up a fund for the needy people in the Ukraine/Russia War. The collection here can be sent to the ones who become homeless or have lost the means of earning money.
However, the trusted local Ukraine/Russian can verify the right usage of the funds and if this is started, it must be started by a person whom everyone could trust.
Let's discuss the possibilities and if this can be a good initiative?

Imho there are plenty of legit funds, including some that accept Bitcoin, for Ukrainians.

"Somebody reputed here" would have to manage the funds but also go into an actual war zone to help the people there. I expect Ukrainians either look for guns, either look for fleeing, hence you may not find anybody fitting the profile you're expecting.

I think that the chance you find somebody willing to get personal profit off this is way higher than getting somebody who can genuinely help.

Of course... there's always the possibility that I'm wrong...

It would be better if we will just directly donate to the official NGO or a reputable organization that is raising donations for Ukraine. Actually, I already read here in the forum about a crypto address where to send our donations and it's a legit one, we can just search if we want.

There is no need to open another channel for donations when the official one already exists. One authentic channel for donation is enough in my opinion.

Just follow this official tweet from Mykhailo Fedorov (Prime Minister of Ukraine )

USDT (trc20) — TEFccmfQ38cZS1DTZVhsxKVDckA8Y6VfCy

The donations are continued to these addresses and can be watched here

~snip~

In addition to the fact that there are official crypto addresses of the Ukrainian government, I know of one of our members (@icopress) who is in Ukraine and has a pretty good reputation on the forum, and he also published the address for donations. For all who want to know more ->

Let me be honest.
I'm really tired after the Charity issue we had seen few weeks back. I can't anymore trust any person as trusted with funds to be spent for others. It’s better if you donate on the official addresses. At least, you can be sure that they will use the fund for what they are collecting & you will have no way to complain against anyone. But here after trusting someone, if they betray, you will get hurt for sure & that's what personally I don’t want to.

I didn't know about this and I know many wouldn't know about it too because of the title [POV] War in Ukraine (The situation on the southern front). (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5387774.0) doesn't suggest that it is a charity thread. Also, it should be in the services section, rather than in Politics & Society to get more exposure.

I know about the official Ukraine government donation address but unfortunately, I can't even trust that all the funds donated to the government funds will reach the needy or some funds may be used by the politicians themselves. Don't know about the Ukrainian government but many underdeveloped world governments will not feel hesitant to misuse the charity funds.  :(

Even reputable members can possibly scam people since money can change the stand of anyone and possibly they can think about bad things especially if they hold thousands or even millions of dollars if the donation campaign will became successful. Remember there are reputable members from the past who scam people here so I guess its really bad idea to do this and repeat this history again.

Better go on legit channels since there are so many foundations already conduct a charity works in the aide of Ukraine.

This thread came about after a high-profile user pointed me to one of the scam threads, so I shared my story... and given that I've already volunteered before, I added a bitcoin address because I knew I could do more.. and of course added a disclaimer as only god knows what might happen tomorrow.

And I think that the thread is in the right section because I do not provide any services, but I detail what I have to, only in order to preserve my freedom and the freedom of my relatives in the future. I hope you understand what I mean.
