I've heard about etherdelta and idex but not anymore, can anyone share what happened to these two exchanges?

Etherdelta founder was fined by SEC in the late 2017 for operating unregistered exchange which he then sold to someone else and that was pretty much the end for Etherdelta. Regarding IDEX, I have no idea what happened to them.

IDEX was the known dex before until they've become centralized or semi at least to say. When that announcement came, that was likely the start of them as their popularity decreases.

Right now, they still have a volume but if you want to trade there, there are much better choices than them.

ForkDelta was derivative from Etherdelta but i don't know if they are created by the same person. Both apps are still active but there are no trading volume published else were or any recent reviews or complaints against it.

Idex also is still operating but i remember it applied KYC enforcement for all its users which causes users to leave it for some better alternatives before they all start applying KYC process enforcement.

Idex is still operating and as I remember a few years ago they applied kyc rules to users, meanwhile until now they still claim that they are a decentralized service. Access to a personal wallet is still required in order to use this platform.

This is enough of a reason that Idex is starting to fall out of favor even though some features were added since defi became mainstream.

Yup Etherdelta & Idex was huge popular Dex in 2017 & 2018 but how that exchanger now like Death. Because now there are many good dex in the market markets like eth dex (Uniswap) Bsc dex (Pancakeswap) and many more. EtherDelta and Idex have always ask the users private key to connect the personal wallet. But new generation dex didn’t ask private key to anyone. All dex have Web3 connection system. that's why EtherDelta, Idex Could not survive in the market till now

Initially, Etherdelta was so popular in 2017, but I think it was mismanaged. Then along the way it got hacked... That was the beginning of their downfall. They decided to have an ICO for their own token, which I believe was not successful. Before we realized it, SEC was on their ass. Volumes dropped.

Forlkdelta was a fork of Ether delta, but I didn't become successful Either.

As for IDEX most members have mentioned what happened to it.

Thats right. Im using idex often before but when they shifted to semi centralized, it seems their popularity gone and people prefer auto swap of uniswap and new dex nowadays. It seems thats reality. When a platform tech become overtake or using an older features they likely to gone slowly.  It same with etherdelta, both are famous before but now its unlikely been used.

It is unfortunate, if I am not mistaken etherdelta is the first DEX after which another DEX appears like IDEX. Etherdelta was pretty much used early in its emergence but it started to decline when they were hacked and IDEX started to be abandoned after they implemented KYC, this confusing to many users including me because they changed from DEX to semi CEX, however they continue to improvment and now IDEX V3 which uses polygon network.

They are not completely decentralized exchanges like uniswap so the users moved to the swap exchanges so they just faded away and also thise exchanges were changed hands but now operating with low volume which is not enough for trading in real time.

Etherdelta clone forkdelta is still alive, even seeing recent trades but wouldn't recommend to use it as it could be phishing scheme as well.

Etherdelta was getting shutdown due to the regulation problem. This exchange site was getting sued by US regulator and the owner of etherdelta was choosing to shutdown its decentralized exchange site. There's another one called fork delta but it seems like this will have the same future like etherdelta. Fork delta didn't have funds to develop even the developer of this exchange site was also begging to get some money from the traders by selling its token but yeah it didn't work properly like his prediction.
Idex is still alive but it's fully comply with the regulation in the US. Idex is still alive with so many restriction.

Lets put up some link about this one.

https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2018/11/08/sec-charges-etherdelta-founder-over-unregistered-securities-exchange/

IDEX isnt totally decentralized anymore.
Once you do reach out above $5000 then they do require for a user to upload a selfie which is totally
opposed for a proclaimed dex.

Since the launched of Uniswap and Pancakeswap i hardly pay attention to those DEX unlike before. but majorly Etherdelta is of no go area as many already mentioned their lapses.

These two dexes can't keep up with how far crypto trading platforms have succeeded so far, ether delta is still working but you risk losing your key trading on such a platform today, I recommend avoiding them at all costs.

Etherdelta is not working anymore. So many people can't take their assets from there. I have tried to pull out my assets that already deposited into the etherdelta wallet and i can't do that.
As far as i know idex is still a trusted exchange site but this has strict requirement as it was following the US regulation. Anyone registered on idex must have completed KYC verification.

You can withdraw it from their smart contract, one of perks of being dex: https://www.reddit.com/r/KinFoundation/comments/7l6lgc/guide_on_removing_tokens_from_etherdelta_during/

I remember myself doing it when it was hacked and got funds recovered.

Etherdelta, Forkdelta, Idex were once very popular crypto exchanges, especially in 2017. To login to these crypto exchanges we needed the private key of the wallet. As a result, many wallets would be hacked from here. My own wallet was hacked twice from Etherdelta. Due to these reasons the fidelity of these exchanges decreases. These could no longer survive in the face of subsequent competition with other trusted crypto exchanges.

has been forgotten, because people prefer to use uniswap nowadays. but idex is slightly better because it still has trading volume. but the value is very much different when compared to uniswap or pancakeswap. one of the reasons  these two exchanges it to be what it is today is because it is on the ethereum network. High fees are one of the considerations for everyone using this DEX.

How do you mean? Pancake is on bsc but all others dexes are on ethereum, fees would be equal on all these dexes.

i still remember about 3/4 years ago etherdelta had a lot of users and now less users, due to various problems and also now a lot of new better exchanges

Idex is still pretty much working, but ever since they changed to force their users to do kyc that was when their downfall began, it sounds awkward for a decentralized exchange to be asking customers to do kyc, as for etherdelta I don't think that they are still functioning anymore, gone are those days when we buy coins from etherdelta or idex at cheaper rate and wait for CEX listings, gas fee was reasonable then. Pancakeswap, uniswap and other dex have taken over
