The protocol is built on Ethereum and has been around since 2017. Its purpose is to provide decentralized video transcoding for web3 platforms looking to migrate off of centralized streaming services (AWS, Google, etc.)
We’ve seen people profitably co-mine alongside ETH (and other PoW protocols) with only a slight performance hit. Benchmarking stats can be found here: https://docs.livepeer.org/video-miners/how-to-guides/dual-mining Livepeer has just migrated to L2 on Abitrium, so now is decent time to join– there are 11 node operator slots currently available.
