Title: Tracking BTC transfers
Post by: pfhismgrpg on March 16, 2022, 06:31:34 PM
Hi,

I send a lot of transfers in BTC from my wallet and want to start tracking these payments by writing personalised notes on where the transaction came from or to as well as other information about the sender or receiver.

Does anyone know a good app for this? - I have heard coinstats.app may be good but wanted to check on here first.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if the app you mentioned does that. AFAIK, It's more for tracking your portfolio and earnings.

Which wallet are you using? Electrum gives you the ability to add descriptions to your transactions.

https://www.blockchain.com/explorer (https://www.blockchain.com/explorer)

Isn't Bitcoin Explorer enough to track BTC transactions from confirmation time and confirmation amount, BTC amount sent then information from sender address to recipient address information? I usually use it to track BTC transactions I make or when I receive a BTC transaction.

What wallet actually you are using most of the wallet apps out there have the option to put a label or description so if you can tell us the app where you sent BTC maybe we can give you some links or guides that will help you how to put a label or description with your own wallet without using 3rd party tracker.

Like sample Electrum as suggested above the Electrum wallet on PC have the option to put a description but if you are looking for a mobile app Electrum also have an app but you can't able to put a description instead you can put a label which is I think what you need you can also use it as watch-only if your wallet is not Electrum.

Since you are dealing with Bitcoin transactions. I suggest you just your electrum wallet. It has an Option to add information or description about the incoming or outgoing transaction.

Just like in the image below

All you have to do is right click under the description area and then click on Edit description.

It's just an explorer, and you can't add the description of the transaction. This is not what OP is looking for.

I send a lot of transfers in BTC from my wallet and want to start tracking these payments by writing personalised notes on where the transaction came from or to as well as other information about the sender or receiver.

You can do this if before you send, some wallets provide such a feature, download electrum wallet and then add notes before sending those transactions.

If you have some knowledge with Excel you can build a trading journal where you will have more detailed information, I have written detailed information about it here: [GUIDE] Trading journal (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5389256.msg59491026#msg59491026)

for third party services you can try:

  • Coin Market Manager (CMM): https://www.coinmarketman.com/journal/
  • TraderSync: https://tradersync.com/
  • Trading Journal Spreadsheet (TJS): https://trading-journal-spreadsheet.com/cryptocurrency-trading-journal-spreadsheet/

I have always used Electrum for this, the feature came with it in the first place though, I was not looking specifically for this feature.

I also prefer keeping a note about whom I sent the money and for what purpose. Never heard of the app you have mentioned but I prefer Electrum because it is a wallet in the first place and it has this feature. I feel that is convenient than keeping another excel sheet to track or another app to add in your device.

I hope you are not one of those accounts trying to promote one app by asking questions about it. ::)

I tested coinstats app before and I am not sure this is the best option for what you are looking for.
This is portfolio app for many coins, similar like Delta, FTX (ex Blockfolio) or Coingecko app, but you can't exactly track addresses and see transaction fees you paid.
You can manually enter amounts of Bitcoin you transferred but you can do the same thing in your own wallet like Electrum with adding labels, or in hardware wallet apps like Trezor Suite.
There is one great open source desktop app (Linux, Mac, Win) based on Coingecko website made by member of bitcointalk forum Escaflowne, and it's called Cryptrax.

Hi there,
We can also suggest you have your own tracking app,  so you can easily track our payments any time and anywhere. Let me know your thoughts about that.

Hi,

In addition to what other users have commented about Electrum, it also comes with the ability to export your transaction history in both CSV and JSON formats [the latter gives more information] and after that, you can easily add notes to any of its parts:

  • Wallet tab > History > Export > Choose between CSV or JSON > Export
    - If you're not one of its users, just create a watch-only wallet > Wait for it to sync [depending on your history, it might take a few minutes] > Do the above steps.
