Title: I might have lost my BCH. What are my chances of recovery?
Post by: derek342 on March 22, 2022, 11:44:51 AM
I accidentally sent BCH on the ecash network to a BCH Network address.

I withdrew BCH (BCH ABC) from one exchange (say exchange A) to an address provided by another exchange (say exchange B).

Exchange B made it clear they only support BCH Network deposits.
Exchange A made no mention of the network they support so I assumed it was the BCH Network. In fact, I hadn't heard of ecash until after the withdrawal.

Exchange A accepted my BCH Network address and withdrew the funds on the ecash network.

Exchange A says it's Exchange B's problem.
Exchange B says they only support the BCH network.

Is there any way I might recover these funds?

Thanks for your help!

I do not really understand this. There was a time BCH forked and a seperate blockchain was created for the forked coin. You sent the forked coin to an exchange that does not support it but support BCH.

Because you do not have the private key to that wallet, you can not recover the coin, but the coin is with the exchange B that do not support it, contact exchange B support care for your coin recovery.

That is the only what you can do as you do not have the private key to the address you sent it to, the exchange B has it.

Try to take a look and inspect the terms of conditions on exchange B. If they stated that they are willing to recover a mistakenly invalid transaction like what you did, you may have a chance to recover it, and they may charge you with some additional amount to recover it. If they don't, well, you are out of luck. So, move on and take it as a lesson.

I agree, that's your only chance!

You have to hope that the exchange will pay you back the coins. Because only it has the private key to access the coins on the other chain. If the exchange has not implemented the other chain, then they will most likely not bother to implement it just to give you your coins back. This is your only option, although I think the chance of success is rather low.

The exchange B can retrieve your coins but they don't and probably the mentioned it in their terms so your chances are close to zero unless you are a famous person who can convince the exchange to give the funds back or ruin their reputation by a single tweet.
