Title: Why are there no altcoins that can replace Bitcoin?
Post by: Tony116 on March 27, 2022, 10:40:28 AM
BTC is not only the first coin but it has symbolic value for the entire crypto market, one symbol of the blockchain revolution.
Just like gold, there are thousands of metals produced such as steel, aluminum, silver, etc., which are widely used in daily life. but gold has always been the most valuable metal, still number 1.
So there will be no altcoins that can replace BTC although ETH, Sol, Tron or Xrp... have utilities, applications and technologies that are far superior to BTC.

Whoever made this claim was wrong or you may have misunderstood them.
There can be an altcoin that replaces bitcoin someday but there is so far there isn't a single altcoin that can even come close, simply because they lack utility and innovation.
All these big coins like ETH, XRP, ... have serious flaws and were made mainly to let their creators make tremendous amount of money by ripping people off.

Because only Bitcoin is decentralized and that, among many other features, makes it unique. People have recognized this over the years, and those who believed that some new crypto king would emerge were not only disappointed, but also lost a lot of money. All these coins you mentioned have nothing (at least for me) superior, but they are trying to be better than Bitcoin with some innovations that most people don't need or don't understand anyway.

To be honest, everyone is looking for something to buy cheap and one day sell for a thousand times the price. This is how the entire altcoins market works.

Bitcoin is like a gold standard in blockchain industry and crypto market.

Altcoins can bring bigger or smaller total supply, faster transaction speed but VTPS is more important than TPS
Altcoins are not decentralized like Bitcoin. Will they be able to be decentralized? I don't know but it sounds impossible. Nowadays, founders or projects are doxed so you can not call them decentralized because with the lack of decentralization on their network and when doxed founders found, get caught, etc. their network might be fallen under risk of weird requirements from governments.

It has several factors in my option:

1) Bitcoin was the first and most famous and also the most supported coin
2) Bitcoin is limited
3) Bitcoin is the most decentralized and thus secure project of those you mentioned. This creates trust
4) And finally, another factor that should not be ignored: The mystery surrounding Satoshi

Bitcoin is the most reliable cryptocurrency and has been the pioneer of blockchain technology, altcoins are produced based on the benchmark bitcoin built for cryptocurrency. So, while there have been innovations developed by altcoins in different blockchains that have solved some of the challenges bitcoin is attempting to tackle, I don't believe any altcoin can completely replace Bitcoin.

If you ask me, some of the altcoins that you're mentioning probably have more utility than bitcoin has, I mean look at ethereum, they probably have more projects attached to them compared to bitcoin. Yes bitcoin is valuable but it has to show that it's valuable eventually, right now, I believe it's just banking on the fact that it's the pioneer.

It is also a lot about perception.
Good or bad, right or wrong for a lot of people they see all the alts as copycats.
Some might even have better features or a better way of doing things but in the end there will always be someone shouting it's not Bitcoin.

The main reason is true decentralization, there are a few good altcoins around the market but not truly decentralized. They likely decentralized functionally on the chain, but not overall. Bitcoin is the mother coin backed by the worldwide Bitcoin community and investors that no altcoin succeed to build. That's the reason still now no altcoin replaced Bitcoin. Not sure about the Future, there would be a more powerful cryptocurrency with the latest technologies that would replace Bitcoin. But there is a matter of community that we can't ignore. It will play a major role in replacing Bitcoin.

Well, as much as I'd to actually agree and push this thought as well being a huge fan of bitcoin, we just can never deby the fact that with each passing day, new things happen and many variables are created changed or rid off. Which is why none of us can really say for sure that bitcoin will stay on top forever no matter how much ut may seem like it today. Because clearly speaking, there are altcoins out there that can serve the same purpose with some better use cases. Just saying.

I do believe that same flaw is being copied by others and they are now making shit projects all the time. Who knows side by side Vitalik might be faking 100's of projects to collect millions of dollars. Who knows he might be reading our posts right now and smiling at his desk.

Honestly, bitcoin was first in the race and eventually bitcoin will end this race. There is few % chance of any altcoin which will replace bitcoin. The main reason is bitcoin's authenticity and originality.

Everyone entering into the crypto market have always made their mindset as - altcoins are poor way to invest, the projects could be scams, invest at your own risk kinda thoughts. However, bitcoin is name of trust, so its not going anywhere and it will always get invested no matter what.

Bitcoin been the primary use of crypto investors before they can think of other altcoins to invest with. Most of the exchanges accepts bitcoin unlike in altcoins that not all exchange accepts it. Knowing that bitcoin can do what other altcoins can make it superior as well the decentralization as well history it already proven to gain profit despite the pump and bump of the market. The transactions were easier same with its adoption.

I'm just paying attention to the fact that after bitcoin, people don't believe in altcoins created by a pseudo-anonymous.
The basic weakness of altcoins in general is the exposed founders. Interested parties can create other "rules" that pressure the founders to change their coin base network protocol to a more centralized one. Blockchain may be decentralized, founders can still be regulated.

Remember that the creation of all altcoins was based on the foundation that Bitcoin built on this innovative transaction method. Though there are some altcoins which introduced some innovations and technology that may try to replace BTC as the reigning crypto, the latter is still far superior.

In addition, it all boils down to the price and usage of such. While there may be altcoins that have functions that Bitcoin does not have, the fact that people still utilize and purchase the latter means that its price and usage would continue to outgrow any altcoin/s in the market.

Bitcoin remains to be irreplaceable at this point as it holds a symbolic position to help tell the world where cryptocurrencies all started from, and I think the top two coins do represent this history well ,btw the rankings aren't based on time of creation either. And in terms of dethroning bitcoin it has to take some form of consensus by the crypto world to allow this to happen but for now this ain't happening.

After I read your topic, I remember reading about: 4 Cryptocurrencies That Could Replace Bitcoin (https://www.fool.com/the-ascent/cryptocurrency/articles/4-cryptocurrencies-that-could-replace-bitcoin/), after finishing reading the sources above, there are two conclusions I can draw that are absolutely ridiculous.
1. a picture, if, in the future, suppose, really nothing can replace Bitcoin.
The 2nd one.

I sometimes think of Bitcoin as similar to my first cellphone. It was a chunky and seemingly indestructible Nokia. You could make calls, send texts, play Snake, and that was about it. Perhaps I'm looking back through rose-tinted glasses, but the battery seemed to last forever.
Really, there is no answer to the OP's question, meaning: Bitcoin, king over king.

I think this is because of the trust factor that drives bitcoin as an investment destination. Actually, in investing, investor trust is the main thing, with limited supply and most importantly standing in the world of cryptocurrency, so it's no wonder that bitcoin is the parent of altcoins, and in this case I think that no altcoin will ever be able to replace it. if we look at the bitcoin marketcap, of course it dominates very large adrift

In your Opinion, no altcoins can replace btc.
And on BTC talk, many follow the same opinion.

The rest of the world has no restriction to follow that opinion.  ;)

Others care more for real-world performance than dogmatic faith in an outdated tech product named btc.
But that is just another opinion.  :)

Yes, market cap matters here if we talk about it here. The market cap of Bitcoin is already telling you why there is no one can replace Bitcoin.
I believe that since the beginning when Bitcoin started, no other cryptocurrency or altcoins surpassed the Bitcoin market cap even in just a matter of seconds.

So overall, as long as the Bitcoin network will continue to work and people still can use it, no other altcoins will replace Bitoin.

Since the success of bitcoin, now many other coins have appeared, such as altcoins and cash coins, but until now no one has been able to replace bitcoin, in fact the presence of altcoins is to cover the shortage of bitcoin, not to compete with bitcoin, because altcoins have a smaller capacity in compare with bitcoin, so it is very difficult for altcoins to match bitcoin, which already has a very wide capacity.

However, some altcoins that have been recognized and have a good future can certainly compete with bitcoin, but in the quotes "Nothing Can Replace Bitcoin", Bitcoin remains the main one, because all altcoins are born from bitcoin, from the source code that was developed so that until now many altcoins are starting to appear.

Currently, what cannot be trusted are coins whose founders and goals are not clear, because they will only become trash coins without any development.

Bitcoin is the main reference, Bitcoin is not regulated by anyone and Bitcoin is a very valuable digital currency today.

but gold has always been the most valuable metal, still number 1.

Sorry to be a bit pedantic, but while gold might be number 1 in an iconic sense, in terms of actual value, it isn't.  Palladium and Rhodium are considered more valuable.

It's a different situation with Bitcoin, though.  One of the biggest factors behind its superiority lies in network effects.  In essence, the more people who use it, the more utility it has.  It's not something other coins can easily replicate.  Essentially, unless Bitcoin has any serious technical issues in future, there's not much which would put a dent in the number of people who use Bitcoin, so the number is likely to grow larger in future.  Other coins might fill niches that Bitcoin doesn't cater to, but there's nothing out there that could easily replace Bitcoin.

I don't think the comparison with gold is 100% accurate. Steel, for example, is much more abundant, and being scarce is one of the reasons gold is valued. Of course, it's not the only reason because something can be very scarce but not of interest to anyone either, but still.
No altcoins replaced Bitcoin because they're not good enough to be an obvious improvement over Bitcoin. They can have some features which allow making things Bitcoin doesn't, but Bitcoin is good enough as a currency, and  as a form of investment, to not be replaced.

what you say is the truth...Bitcoin can't be replaced by any altcoin.  Bitcoin is the creation of satoshi, people are already in love with this first cryptocurrency.  besides being purely a decentralized asset, the amount of Bitcoin also cannot be manipulated, Bitcoin is king.

Bitcoin has built a strong foundation of trust, especially for most investors because it has proven lots of things for years. It's being adapted and used in many ways almost around the world and has achieved lots of achievements. These are the things that altcoins should establish before they could replace Bitcoin. BTC as the father of cryptocurrencies has passed all the tests of time.

Gold is far from being the most expensive metal per unit of weight. Gold is simply the most common store of value among metals because it's not in high demand for any industry and its supply hits the sweet spot where it isn't too common and easily found, but also not too scarce so a lot of people can own it.

Bitcoin is an entirely different story. It's simply the best coin, because it has the highest PoW, the biggest community, the highest adoption, and its core goal is to be secure and decentralized, while its competitors have abandoned this goal, and it comes to bite them back when they get hacked or attacked.

Gold is a store of value for centuries and millennium and many of the kings viewed it as a benchmark for wealth and prosperity. Gold is high in demand as a store of value and in times of inflation, investors will jump into gold to store their value than investing in any other volatile market.

Bitcoin is an entirely different story. It's simply the best coin, because it has the highest PoW, the biggest community, the highest adoption, and its core goal is to be secure and decentralized, while its competitors have abandoned this goal, and it comes to bite them back when they get hacked or attacked.
The reason you see majority of the investment coming into the cryptocurrency space is simply because of the hype and not because they researched about the fundamentals and i am saying this simply because there is no reason why some of the shit coins rallied will not making any sense ;). The reason is that money is flowing where there is a hype and not looking at the fundamentals.

Bitcoin is the benchmark among cryptocurrencies, the pioneer. It will always be a market legislator, it will always be valued more, better, and more willing to invest in it. How many of these bitcoin killers have already been invented? Can't count. They try to lure us with low commissions, speed of transactions, privacy and other things. But no altcoin will ever replicate the success and acceptance of bitcoin. Altcoins can be useful for some specific tasks when interacting with the crypto industry, no more. For full-fledged superiority, there is very little of that. Although some argue that ETH will become the number 1 cryptocurrency for the foreseeable future.

Because,

Only Bitcoin is truly decentralized,
Only Bitcoin is leaderless,
Only Bitcoin is money,
Only Bitcoin has global-level security,
Only Bitcoin has a consistent immutable monetary policy,
Only Bitcoin is widely trusted.

Bitcoin is unique in the crypto world and no altcoin even comes close to Bitcoin in a variety of ways. Altcoins are essentially all corporate products sold and issued as fundraising for the company, and the product's main objective is to make apps and they focus on this app functionality instead of on immutability, decentralization, security, etc. That's extremely different than what Bitcoin is. Bitcoin is money, altcoins are apps.

And even for the few that sorta tried to be like Bitcoin, there's no need for a second global money so they failed (this is why LTC is no longer relevant), while some realized it was pointless to try to compete with Bitcoin so they tried to pivot from money to the app space that all other altcoins are focused on and they just ended up failing in that space too because they are taking a failed product to compete in a space that already has plenty of competition.

They only way to even attempt to make another thing like Bitcoin would be to mimmick how Bitcoin started - no company, no pre-sell, no coins held for advertising and partnerships and the team and so on, likely no Proof of Stake or similar mechanisims, no sacrificing decentralization to gain a bit of functionality, and no founder or central figure, while being very easy to run nodes on common househould hardware. And even if all that was done (which nobody is trying to do because the people interested in making new coins are doing it to get rich, ie build a company) that new coin would have to somehow outcompete Bitcoin which is already globally recognized as the one and only digital money and has global recognition and support, so it would be a impossibly losing battle right from the start.

So instead people focus on making the next round of apps in this new market space and trying to get rich off their corporate product.

We cant predict the future on what it would look like but we couldnt just deny that Bitcoin is really been mainly supported which is something not surprising. Not only the first but also this one had
started out in overall cryptocurrencies existence which do materialized out and make it a functional utility in terms of decentralized payment which the community do mostly or greatly appreciate it.

Even though there are lots of coins or alts in the market which do works more better and bit superior in terms of functionality and application but still people could not just
simply reject nor ignore the importance of bitcoins existence but we wont know on how long it would be sitting on number #1 spot.

There is no altcoins that can replace bitcoin simply because altcoins only serve as an alternative coins, the main coin will always be bitcoin. And because of its own decentralized nature, people even love it more. Unlike altcoins that are mostly centralized so its never a good preference for us. And because bitcoin has the most expensive price, enough to dominate the whole crypto market. So if you aim for a huge reward from an investment, you must also pay its expensive price.

I think you have it very wrong and other cryptocurrencies will surpass Bitcoin eventually. It might not happen in the next ten years, but there are plenty of technologies out there which improve upon the standards that Bitcoin laid down. It's more like comparing a 28k modem versus fiber optic internet connections - the first iterations of the internet at much slower speeds were incrementally improved over time to allow much greater capacity. There are some inherent limitations that only other versions of cryptocurrency have the ability to change. Network capacity, speed, energy usage and transaction fees have improved over time but they need to keep dropping to compete with existing payment networks.

Well, there's more to just saying gold is a valuable metal. In the financial world gold has been made valuable because it was connected to the dollar (rather that's why it's still valuable today). The thing with altcoins is that there really is no need for a takeover in that sense. Most altcoins actually provide something different than BTC has to offer and in that sense are not competing with it, but coexisting with it.

This is actually quite an important point.

I think platinum is rarer than gold and has more uses.

But gold is simply valued more because of its color.

Bitcoin in addition to mastering the crypto market is also a fully decentralized crypto and makes it an investment choice for investors because it is considered more certain. Bitcoin is a pioneer among the many cryptos in the market so that Bitcoin has influence and control the crypto market. It is true that although many Altcoins are good, until now they have not been able to replace Bitcoin because basically Altcoins were created as an alternative to Bitcoin where the goal is to correct the shortcomings of Bitcoin. that is why Altcoins cannot compete with Bitcoin even though many altcoins are constantly growing and booming in the crypto market.

The first born cannot be replaced as it's the market's standard and it's where all of them are relying based on its market sentiment. Have you noticed when bitcoin dumps? altcoins are suffering too?

maybe bitcoin will one day be replaced by something that catches the hearts and minds of the global community although I think that's highly unlikely as no one knows in the future.
bitcoin has been running for over a decade building on its momentum and has become a global phenomenon, I imagine it will take time for something else to replace it.
there is still a long way to go even though we are no longer in this world and there is a possibility that there will be new things that we will not experience, so yes or no we will not know and so far no one has replaced it and there are only those who compete but cannot replace it.

Going through the existence of money it is possible to see different kinds of practice from the early days of human existence. Slowly there happened transformation in the exchange and trade process leading to the creation of coins and paper currencies. After a long the gold as a backing to the currency happened and this standard is being followed by the countries.

Now in the cryptospace we've been seeing more changes, and existence of different coins. For now gold serves to be the best in terms of usage and as an investment. Most of the new projects compare with bitcoin for promotion and say they have better features and everything, then why they weren't able to overcome bitcoin.

Is gold the most valuable metal? I don't think so. Neither is gold the most precious metal. But perhaps gold is the most popular metal. It is partly because of its uses and beauty and because it has played a great role in our culture.

The reason why Bitcoin can't be replaced as Bitcoin is that it is the one and only Bitcoin. The most that altcoins could claim is that they're better than Bitcoin, or they're the next Bitcoin, or they're like Bitcoin. We all have also heard of a claim that they're the original Bitcoin. But whatever they say, they're merely altcoins. It all means they're not Bitcoin. Bitcoin is inimitable.

Because only Bitcoin is decentralized and that, among many other features, makes it unique.
I totally agree. This is the real reason why bitcoin is unique, the total decentralization. All the other cryptos are created and owned by some individuals, everybody knows how is behind them, bitcoin is the only one that is different and, at this point, I would say also unreachable.

So there will be no altcoins that can replace BTC although ETH, Sol, Tron or Xrp... have utilities, applications and technologies that are far superior to BTC.
don't talk that everything is permanent because Indeed that Bitcoin is the symbolic and also the most valuable  but have you ever think of your comparison ?

metal cannot be compared to Cryptocurrency because this can be a usable currency but never be as permanent like Bitcoin in top , there are chance that this can be taken position , but of course this cannot be decided now and there are more time to increase the value of bitcoin because the top is finally  over.

If you ask me, some of the altcoins that you're mentioning probably have more utility than bitcoin has, I mean look at ethereum, they probably have more projects attached to them compared to bitcoin.
The DAO exploit proved that Ethereum has the interest of a centralized group of powerful individuals at heart. They mad a re-org so that those 'important' Ethereum figures don't lose money. Bitcoin would never do that as long as the blockchain and consensus rules function the way they should. Everything works properly in Bitcoin. It also worked in Ethereum during the hack, but they still reorganized the blockchain. Ethereum will never be an immutable and decentralized platform. Remember the 3 pillars of blockchain? decentralization, immutability, and transparency. Ethereum failed in this regard.

All those coins that are marketing themselves as being better than Bitcoin have a creator or main developer who gladly cashed out, made millions, and left. Many were pre-mined to generate as much profit as possible for those who created them.

I just happened upon an article that answers the OP rather nicely:

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/why-bitcoin-has-no-competition

From the article:

Quote
Bitcoin’s job is simple. Follow the rules agreed upon by the network and keep going.

That’s it.

It does this job extremely well. Not even the most powerful government in the world has the power to change Bitcoin’s rules.

This, then, is Bitcoin’s key feature. The one thing that sets it apart from every single altcoin: Immutability.

... it then continues and explains how other alts lack the level of immutability which bitcoin seems to have.

I saw that when most alts were claiming that they're going to kick bitcoin's ass and will replace it. But, none of them became successful as most of them wasn't able to replace it.
That's why if it's about bitcoin, there's no way an alt or alts will be able to replace it. It is the reality although for some it's hard to accept it but it is what it is.

Bitcoin is the most decentralized network and blockchain and no altcoins can be even called decentralized as most of them are totally centralized. The reason why bitcoin remains the only one and that no altcoins can ever replaced bitcoin. Bitcoin is the king of crypto and has the highest store of value while altcoins are just alternative coins for bitcoin and their value are only based on the movement of the price of bitcoin.

What about gold and other metals? They can also do what btc can do but the only difference is that bitcoin is digital and precious metals are physical but anyway it is not about between gold or other metals but it was about the btc and altcoins. No alts can replace btc because alts are not the same as btc, alts are alts and only alts can also replace an alt but I think it's also on the way how people think.

Someone can use an altcoin and thinks this altcoin is better than btc, so he will never use btc anymore. He literally replace bitcoin there but to the majority that loves bitcoin, no matter how good an altcoin is, we will always consider bitcoin to be better than them.

This is true, there are too many centralized projects that people ignore that part. Bitcoin is truly decentralized and I believe there are zero projects with that much decentralization. Of course, you can name stuff like ETH, because we know that Vitalik doesn't "control" it, but at the end of the day if people like to do what he says we should do, then even though he can't change things himself directly, he has enough influence over it to make it less decentralized.

Bitcoin doesn't have a figure at the top, I mean we have Satoshi Nakamoto if we want to be technical about it but he is nowhere to be found and hasn't written anything for many years now.

The advantage of bitcoin is that it is the first and most widely developed cryptocurrencies so it is difficult for altcoins to replace bitcoin until now, but if we look at the transaction volume and marketcap data, bitcoin is decreasing, this opens the opportunity that one day there will be altcoins that can compete and even replace bitcoins.

To my little point of view Bitcoin happened to be the first digital money that is fast, trusted, reliable and transparent used for payment generally and before all other altcoin was introduced and since from the introduction it has remain the king of all coins therefore it influences the rest coin in the market, moreover it gain lot of strength in terms of developments and acceptability many company's pays their employee in BTC as salary while some eateries accept it. Therefore not all shopping mall accept Gold, Steel, Aluminum, Silver but they accept BTC and other well known cryptocoin such as ETH, Doge.. ect

Decentralization.

That alone is enough to say why no altcoins can replace Bitcoin. If they want to change something whether its the code or the rules etc., many people must agree to that change that makes it decentralized unlike altcoins where it is being created by a centralized company or a group of people. Most or all of the altcoins are centralized that they can change anything within their project at anytime if they want to.

Bitcoin has actually been replaced by altcoin in many aspects but bitcoin is still the number crypto based on market capitalisation, before now we have BTC pairs but now there is ETH pair, BNB pair, OKB pairs etc.

And if you regard USDT as altcoin, it has fully replaced BTC as the number traded crypto according to market volume.

Decentralization makes bitcoin more unique from the rest of the coins. And while most of the altcoins are centralized, they are also created based on the concept of bitcoin. So they are not made to beat bitcoin, but to follow the path of bitcoin.

However, this perception is only made based on what is seen in the present. There might be an altcoin that will soon to overcome bitcoin in the future, who knows?  But for now, bitcoin will always be the king of the crypto market and the most in demand crypto in the market.

One can make his own upgraded version of bitcoin and continue to promote it and when it is finally recognized and used by the community, he will disappear with no trace leaving his invention free to use as we have with bitcoins right now. But that's not gonna happen since projects nowadays are evolving so fast that for only 1-2 years you need to update or develop the project to adopt the current trend which is kinda hard to do if you decided to hide from the community.

If you can somehow manage to do that, then you have a chance to be in the top 10 in the crypto market and eventually become the first after another 10-20 years.

The crypto world perhaps bitcoin is the most unique, is the first created coin, is the most fully decentralized coin on the market. This asserts that bitcoin is an inviolable asset that can only be used by the holder of the key. Unlike bitcoin, today's altcoins are not fully centralized, so security is not as guaranteed as bitcoin.

If equated with a building, bitcoin is a unique building that is 100% complete and nothing new has been done, there has not been any change in bitcoin so it is purely decentralized, even bitcoin founders can't intervene with bitcoin, and the lack of altcoins is constantly being refined so that it makes Developers have control over the coins or tokens they create.

What I really mean about this is in my own opinion bitcoin represents the whole cryptocurrency platform and that's why it is the most common and dominant crypto in the market. Actually there are many good altcoins too that can we say a good one to invest with but in terms of public popularity bitcoin is the most known crypto..

I don't think that Bitcoin has that bigger community than some popular altcoins. Many of top 10 CMC projects have really big community and I would not be surprised if one of them is even larger than Bitcoin's community. I'd say that the biggest reason why there is no altcoin that can replace Bitcoin is because we are still very early in the crypto adoption. Bitcoin is the king of all crypto and it probably will be the king for quite some time. But that doesn't mean that there won't be some altcoin that will emerge and dethrone Bitcoin one day.

I really agree with your opinion, the real crypto world is bitcoin, because the first thing that appeared was bitcoin, after a few years of the emergence of bitcoin, then several other coins appeared, such as altcoins, but in fact, although many other coins appeared, they could not match bitcoin, the emergence of other coins is only as a complement, and covers the shortcomings that exist in bitcoin.

If all other alts coin have succeeded in building a technology superior to bitcoin then i think they should have been ahead by now, but you know why they cant, their applications is still far behind that of bitcoin and bitcoin does not maintain the leading digital currency a because it was first to launch, but it has built technologies and applications far from the reach of other cryptos.

Honestly speaking i don't think the same, see the strength and the time span in which these other coins have taken over the market Sol has reached in top 5 in just a matter of 10 months, with this much potential in altcoins i am sure there will soon be a time when alts will surpass bitcoin because of their utility, i am sure it won't happen very soon, it might happen after a lot of years but will happen for sure one day.

It always about the Crypto enthusiast choice, but right now generally Bitcoin has more holders , for now and things are fast changing, even if Bitcoin would still be relevant in the future some Alt-Coins would also be up there.

Actually you made the wrong comparison the reason why gold is expensive is simply because its rare and the extraction process cost also bit expensive but one day if asteroid mining became reality we can expect the supply of gold will increase which will greatly reduce the gold. Meanwhile bitcoin can be replaced as well but until now every other project created is trying to become the next bitcoin not better than the bitcoin.

This is like 90% of the problem with the crypto market right now. There are tons of people who do not realize the fact that we are in a period where altcoins are mainly centralized and have teams and founders that get your money and promises you that they will use that money to do wonders.

I hate that, money should not be paid to the owners for betterment of the project, if the project is good then it is good, if you want to make it better, some developer will offer a better solution and if the public likes it then they will go with it. Do we still use the legacy network of bitcoin? No we do not, we use segwit mostly, did satoshi created segwit? No he did not. That means there is no need for a creator to keep it going.

Bitcoin is the most important active in Crypto space for being the pioneer is somewhat unquestionable where we all agree. It has great value due to decentralization, it is safe, it is a true store of value.
It is money disruptor,
It has achieved what no one had thought that people move their capitals of traditional assets to digital assets.
Although there are Altcoins they walk in seeking to accumulate more bitcoin.

It is already news in a tweet The CEO of Terraform Labs, DO Kwon, has plans to accumulate Bitcoin to support the StableCoin TerrausD (UST).

I don't know what was the OP thinking that Bitcoin would be replaced by some altcoins who are just merely a copy of the original one. If you want to beat or replace Bitcoin then better make one that has utilities such as your altcoins pick and decentralized at the same time that cannot be controlled by no one. And I agree that he made the wrong comparison since both have different attributes and difficulty level when mined.

I always asked the same question and i think the best answer for this is that bitcoin have a far better reputation in all over the world and all new crypto adopters hear about bitcoin as the first thing in crypto, i want also to montion that it's not logi to make ETH and Sol for example in the same level cause ethereum is far better for me

Its the KING of all crypto which it isnt surprising that it would be staying on the top.If bitcoin did not exist then so as with altcoins that we do have today. Blockchain technology does really give out that

revolutionary kind of utility and Bitcoin did really make out that kind of possibility on having anonymous and decentralized kind of payment system. There might be lots of alts in the market which

do works better and cheaper but the community does know on where they would really be putting up their support.

We can't say bitcoin is far superior in all cases. Maybe superior when it comes to decentralization and security. Other than that, it is just a coin that people hold or use for making payment. But the value is high because it is "Bitcoin". It is the first crypto currencies that was made/invented. No matter how good other altcoins are, people will always in the end hold some bitcoins because believe in bitcoin and its future. Think of it like this, bitcoin is the leading all other altcoins. If bitcoin fails, there is a high chance the whole market will fall because people will lose faith on crypto currencies.

For me he is the King of coins among other coins.
Then from a thousand coins or altcoins are also not able to replace the position of bitcoin even though the price can be more expensive than bitcoin, but the position of bitcoin still cannot be competed.
Thousands of millions of people now believe in bitcoin and of course they will not easily turn away from leaving bitcoin. 99% of altcoin price movements also follow bitcoin price movements.

I looked through most answers in the topic, most say about technologies and decentralization. But some altcoins have all that and more right now. And yes, as for now bitcoins reputation is the main reason why no other coin can replace it now when we can still talk about replacement. Next (I guess in many many years) the situation will change and there will be many strong cryptocurrencies and none and never as important as bitcoin now and that's why none of them would replace bitcoin anyway.

Because bitcoin has been around for over a year and a lot of people are investing in it, the more popular it becomes, the more difficult it is to replace. Even though many altcoins are excellent, they are unable to replace bitcoin. Thus a lot of people are using bitcoin for investment as it continues to grow, It also offers some advantages because it is a decentralized digital currency, which means you have complete control over your funds and there is no need to be concerned because it is built on a secure technology called the blockchain. I read it on www. avg.com hope it helps

Bitcoin is the best. Is decentralized (others are too), it's open source (the source have been review a million times) works (a bit slow), there is acceptance as money replacement, can order anywhere online, transfers are auto, etc.

When i first got bitcoin i was surprised with this new idea, and it was trending, other projects came along like Ethereum but it wasn't the same.
Not all cryptocurrencies are decentralized as Bitcoin. Majority of them are centralized and can be controlled by the developers or platform that owns it. Although some of them have promised to become fully decentralized as they continue to expand. And one of those that has promised to become fully decentralized is Solana, and I believe that they are getting to that stage now.

But, even at that they wouldn’t still come any close to Bitcoin, it is always going to be the topping the cryptocurrency market and that is the cryptocurrency most people are making sure that they invest in. As for the other cryptocurrencies, you just invest whatever little amount that is left in them.

in my opinion Bitcoin is the first crypto currency that already built and make its foundation to be the center of all crypto currency and alt coins in the market but even if its the center or having a higher value crypto, its possible that someday one altcoin will replace the bitcoin because we can't analyze the price movement of all the crypto currency in the market because of its volatility. We all know that.

it is difficult of course for altcoins to shift or replace bitcoin which of course is unique from other altcoins, because bitcoin is in great demand by large investors to be used as their investment for a long time, and bitcoin price movements are certainly difficult to predict when the price will rise. and when to lower the price, bitcoin price movement due to market demand and price can't be manipulated by someone, even if it's a big investor they won't be able to change bitcoin price as they wish.

in the internet world, reputation is important, especially the reputation of an asset, so far Bitcoin is more secure and remains decentralized compared to the new altcoins that appear, even the figure of satoshi is still a big question mark until now. there is no safest and most trusted cryptocurrency other than bitcoin.

First mover advantage is a pretty big one...  With crypto, it was massive and the fact that satoshi disappeared instead of cashed out his hoard like every other founder of every other altcoin was a big step in the right direction for community adoption.  Sure, there might be more useful coins out there, but no coin has the backing that Bitcoin does.  In such a distrusting environment, the trust that satoshi led the world to have in Bitcoin is something that can't be discounted.  Many people are too risk adverse to even invest in Bitcoin, so altcoins to them are like penny stocks.  Ethereum is beginning to break through the scamcoin barrier as far as public sentiment goes, but even it doesn't have the sort of adoption that Bitcoin does among major players in the financial world.

Yes, first mover has a big advantage that only if the potential and benefit are also vast. Even if Satoshi chooses to sell his hoard no altcoin can replace Bitcoin because it's the number one true community-driven crypto with genuine decentralization and no censorship etc. These make people to easily trust Bitcoin and supported it to the fullest.

Sure, there might be more useful coins out there, but no coin has the backing that Bitcoin does.
There is some altcoin with powerful concept and they didn't get enthusiast or community backing because most of the team involve created them to fill their bag.

In such a distrusting environment, the trust that satoshi led the world to have in Bitcoin is something that can't be discounted.
This is the reason why the government can not break the bond people had for Bitcoin and its also the reason why no altcoin can replace Bitcoin.

That decentralization is not the "main" reason why they can't get close. Don't get me wrong, that is a very big deal but the fact that bitcoin has been here the longest and caused a big love from the people, is the main reason. We can see that bitcoin doesn't have the best blockchain, no smart contracts, not even cheap after so many developments, no nft, no meta, no new things.

Just plain old bitcoin that you could buy and sell, you really do not do much else with it. Why then it is the biggest? Because of love, people love it the most for sure and trust it the most. This requires a lot more than just technology or the system to break, you need a lot more than that to make people not love it as much.

Another factor is, that BTC has been around and every coin has a BTC pair on an exchange, so it is impossible that there were other altcoins that will replace the BTC. Considering people BTC is the king of all cryptos, so many people believe in the network that is used by BTC not the other networks as you have said above. BTC is unique that is very simple and no one can even change or break the code.

It is the first cryptocurrency and when something is the first, it is always very hard for it to be beaten by others that comes after it. There are so many cryptocurrencies in the market , we have over ten thousands of them today, but to me I do not think that any of these cryptocurrencies would be able to take over and become the number one cryptocurrency in the market.

I see it that Bitcoin is still going to stay as the number one, while other cryptocurrencies are just going to be there as an alternative. And yes we all know that all these alternative cryptocurrencies were released to be a better version of Bitcoin and offer features that is not available in Bitcoin, but despite all that Bitcoin still stays at the top.

Because most of the altcoins are created from bitcoin, and controlled by a specific organization.
The base of most altcoins is not as strong as that of bitcoin, and a small number of altcoins are formed from the fork of bitcoin.

So tell me, who will people trust more?

Who is Bitcoin or those who were created much later? Bitcoin, of course.

Besides, altcoins are somehow seemed like custodial services, Bitcoin is the only coin that is most trustworthy.

You are absolutely correct, while no altcoins will supercedes the values of bitcoin is because their are under Bitcoin and bitcoin has more relative abundance than any of them, as you said that they are reliable, "yes" because during investment bitcoin can only decreased in value but can't give off in the market, while some altcoins can be rusticated in the line of prolonged investment, so if replacement of bitcoin to altcoins will take place is not something of twenty years time

The reason why no altcoin surpass bitcoin is that Bitcoin is more popular and a lot of people heard of it. It has more investors, more miners, and the cryptocurrency created the birth of the blockchain. Ethereum is the 2nd most valuable cryptocurrency and the most popular altcoin. The month of the first half of November is the golden age for Bitcoin and ethereum. The closest that ethereum would surpass bitcoin when ethereum was close to half of the value of bitcoin's market cap. Bitcoin was about $1.5 trillion in market cap while ethereum's market cap was $600 billion. Right now, Bitcoin's market cap is about $800.5 billion while ethereum's market cap is about $400 Billion. 2022 is the year that we experienced another crypto recession and this year was chaotic. So there is a small chance that ethereum could's surpass bitcoin's value. My favorite cryptocurrency is Bitcoin right now and hopefully it won't het surpassed by other altcoins. If bitcoin can reach at least the price of $95,239, then it's market cap would soar past 2 trillion. Ethereum needs to reach $8,334 to pass $1 trillion in market cap. Hopefully Bitcoin would surpass $2 trillion by 2023.

look to the future Is obviously there will be an altcoin that will surpass bitcoin, this issue of electricity consumption is a big disadvantage that bitcoin has, but in the future there will be some altcoin that will surpass bitcoin, it just needs to be some truly decentralized altcoin with an anonymous creditor is safe and does not waste electricity you will see people running to use this altcoin

Altcoins are more on alternatives for bitcoin so it won't totally replace bitcoin in the long run. And to think that people love the freedom they found in bitcoin, then there's no reason that they would stick to altcoins as they are more centralized. However, we don't hold the future so there are still chances that an altcoin could somehow replace bitcoin. But for now, bitcoin has always dominate the crypto market and even fills the community with huge bitcoin users and owners.

Well you have a point about this and I want to add something.
[safe haven asset and privacy] are also the most thing that people wanted to use in this network because of the decentralization that made no one control it. There is no single altcoin that can replace bitcoin, that is why bitcoin will remain on the top and even ethereum cannot do of what bitcoin has even though they had different functions.

Yes, this is the reality. Once ethereum dominance on the market kept on increasing whereas the dominance of bitcoin kept falling. Those are days when it is talked about the hard competence. Then onwards there is nothing to compete bitcoin for various reasons. Ethereum with its popularity as the dominant altcoin in the market have took a strong place. For now ethereum holds its position and it can't make any changes with bitcoin market.

People are aware of bitcoin, because it is the one that is being talked by any news source whenever something is being broadcast about cryptocurrency. Another thing is the usage and acceptance. There is no other cryptocurrency that have been accepted and getting used similar to fiat on different needs.

I think you can't compare Ethereum and Bitcoin. Bitcoin is more of a digital gold while Ethereum is more of a digital resource. That's why I don't think they can replace each other. I rather see both as the players in their field. So the question should be more like this: Why can't Altcoins replace Bitcoin and why can't platform tokens replace Ethereum?

Bitcoin is considered the pioneer and founding coin of all cryptocurrency. Among all other coins, bitcoin stand out the most because of its features that others don't have such as its volatility rate, decentralization, its uses, and its competency against the flow of time. Which is why most often people say that bitcoin already withstood the test of time, in which most coins in the same timeline with bitcoin didn't survive.

Personally, I think there would come a time that bitcoin will have its greatest competition and probably has the possibility to lose the spot of being the top 1 above all. However, I don't really see it happening soon because as of now, the coins might be competitive, but it still lack on some part and its innovation still needs improvement. Those coins in par with bitcoin could possibly be the center of the light in the future, if they would surpass all bitcoin has to offer. Although, i think it would still take a long time for that, and bitcoin will still continue to reign despite all soaring crypto coins nowadays due to nice projects and background.

I believe that such an altcoin will never exist, firstly because no altcoin has a life of its own and secondly because BTC is the only reliable currency and that it has more than 10 years of history, in addition to all altcoins depending on the movements of BTC, that is, there is no no scenario that this can be possible. In some countries they can create their own cryptocurrencies or their own stablecoins, but they will never have the acceptance that BTC has worldwide, much less the community and acceptance that is currently being captured.

Here, first of all, it is necessary to clarify what is meant by the word "replace", because the appearance on the market of altcoins with better characteristics does not lead to the automatic disappearance of bitcoin. The replacement process can be viewed in terms of increasing the price, capitalization, number of wallets, and so on. I do not think that appearing on this market, altcoins set such a task. At the same time, it cannot be denied that altcoins are now developing very well, new useful areas of their activity are constantly appearing. It is too early to say that bitcoin is irreplaceable. We do not know what will happen to the cryptocurrency in a few decades. In the meantime, you should not oppose bitcoin and altcoins. Let them develop together and this market becomes more and more reliable and useful for people.

I don't know why some people are still surprised why there's no altcoin that can replace Bitcoin when the name given to them said it all.
For better understanding, Alt means alternative and in other words, is called second or non-standard and if we check it very well altcoin standard cant be compared to Bitcoin cause they all imitate Bitcoin concept.
Nevertheless, one thing about the crypto market is that the first project to introduce a concept into the market the project crypto enthusiast will trust the most.

The right analogy, it is true that Bitcoin is difficult to replace by Altcoins because in terms of performance Bitcoin is far superior to Altcoins. Besides that, the popularity of Bitcoin as the first crypto that exists is also an attraction for some people who like popularity. Moreover, the fantastic value of Bitcoin Of course, many people are more after Bitcoin than Altcoins. People's fears if BItcoin suddenly disappears also began to be buried because it can be proven that until now BItoin can still survive even its performance is considered to be getting better every year, so I also think Bitcoin has a longer period of time than some Altcoins that often appear but suddenly just stuck even disappear.

None from these altcoins will even have an influence more than Bitcoin. In fact, if we take a look at the market demand, it is obvious that Bitcoin is in the lead.

So many things that Bitcoin couldn't be replaced by any of these altcoins
 * trading volume
 * potential
 * market price
 * as first cryptocurreny created

I agree with you, bitcoin can never be replaced by any altcoins because bitcoin still remain the king among other cryptocurrencies in the community. Bitcoin is more popular in the community than altcoins because whenever bitcoin price is increasing in the crypto market,  then altcoins price will be increasing too, show that bitcoin is more potential than altcoins. Many investors are still making a huge amount of money from bitcoin investment than altcoins investment because altcoins price is not too stable for both long and short term investors to make a good profit from the market.

The fact that bitcoin "can't" be replaced is not actually a success of bitcoin, but failure of all the other coins as well. Why? Because, every other coin is working towards being better than bitcoin, and many of them are better in the technological sense for sure, however in the end they are forgetting that bitcoin is truly decentralized and I mean actually being decentralized and not just fake one where there is a governance token or whatever.

As long as other projects do not have that, whatever else they have still means nothing to me and nothing to anyone else. If we keep that up, there will never be any need for it for sure.

Bitcoin technology has a number of flaws (you can easily find detailed info on them credits to Bitcoin critics).

Yet, no one has managed to come up with anything that would eliminate all those flaws AND offer better technology. Very simple.

Most likely, no one will (at least, in the near future).

I agree with your review, bitcoin has a far and wider reputation compared to altcoins, the real king of crypto is bitcoin,I am very sure if Satoshi didn't introduce bitcoin to us,I firmly believe that other coins will never exist until now That's why there will never be another altcoin that can replace bitcoin.

She isn’t the one who is making the statement that bitcoin is a transformative technology rather she is stating the words of some bitcoin supporters who believe that bitcoin can be seen as such.

So, I don't really think that she is saying that in support of Bitcoin, there is every possibility that she still remains one of the sceptics. So far from the comments that I have read under this post, it is possible that the news you have posted is not accurate as other people have said something that is entirely different from what you have said. You should do your research and be sure that what you have posted is correct.

Bitcoin is the first crypto and has run alone almost 3 years ago came Litecoin, Namecoin and so on, then in 2015 appeared ethereum which became the strongest altcoins until now, the thing that makes bitcoin difficult to compete with altcoins because crypto trading always makes bitcoin the standard price and trading pair , but after the last 2 years the position of bitcoin is getting lower after the emergence of stable coins.

Oh we see that Ethereum is becoming more and more trustworthy with time and even probably gets some kind of independence inside crypto world. But even though bitcoin is not being replaced, we just have new trustworthy assets. So I don't expect any altcoin will ever replace bitcoin but some of them will become independent one day and there would be new paradigm with multiple important crypto assets.

There are so many Altcoins in the market that are so more efficient than bitcoin but they wouldn't be able to replace bitcoin because bitcoin like you have said represent the revolution of cryptocurrency. And since it is the first cryptocurrency there is no way that these altcoins in the market would be able to take over. All they can do is improve themselves in ways that bitcoin is lacking but that doesn’t mean that they will be able to replace it.

Bitcoin will still stay as the number one coin that we have in the market. Most people prefer bitcoin than investing their money in altcoins. And moreover majority of those altcoins are just shitcoins. So, people don’t waste their time with it, except for a short-term if they do.

it's just that seeing the supply of bitcoins that always decreases from year to year, it is possible that altcoins will replace them when there are no more bitcoins in this world

No alt will ever replace bitcoin, not in our lifetime any way. Bitcoin is King Daddy, there’s a reason alts were nicknamed shitcoins.
Bitcoin is the only coin who dominates the market, and altcoins are just created as an alternatives to bitcoin. But i believe not all altcoins are shitcoins, but definitely a lot of them. And no wonder bitcoin becomes the king of crypto market because its the most trusted coin that can give us guaranteed profits, whereas altcoins are more prone on scams that is why wise investors are very cautious when it comes investing in altcoins.

It's correct.  Bitcoin is considered a trillion dollar asset, it is special and unique.  All the rest are altcoins.  In theory in the future, altcoins can replace bitcoin in the classical way of thinking like Nokia being replaced by iPhone or Samsung… But in reality, that's what we are testing, bitcoin is still holding the capital level stable market over 60%, lol

Altcoin will be altcoins, the alternative coins. So, the alternative will never be able to replace the major. I believe this.

Well about the shitcoins, I also do agree that not all altcoins are shitcoins. but mostly yes. Depend on what coins they are and how we are on them.

indeed the most important thing is because bitcoin is the oldest coin, therefore it seems that it has got a brand, so that in its development it has gained great trust from investors. and that trust is what makes investors seem to unite their thoughts to invest in bitcoin, so that other altcoins seem to follow the movement of bitcoin because of the influence of the thoughts of each investor.

Bitcoin definitely has the first-mover advantage, essentially it allowed bitcoin to form a strong decentralized foundation on which the other very important characteristics can be built. If we think about it for a moment, without decentralization, there wouldn't exist such important value propositions of bitcoin as a limited supply, predictable issuance that algorithmically dictates bitcoin's monetary policy, irreversibility of transactions, and the highest possible uptime. In contrast to bitcoin, the vast majority of altcoins, if not all, haven't achieved true decentralization because (1) their founders are always present and have enormous influence on the project they created, (2) users that join such projects are usually short-term oriented seeking only for profits. Those, who don't care about the future of a project or don't even believe a project has a future, cannot provide for decentralization or can't sustain it for long.

bitcoin is moving very well because bitcoin has a loyal backer for being a first-time investment. especially for a bear market like now, of course investing in bitcoin as a reference for the movement of all altcoins, when bitcoin goes up, many investors take profits and place them on altcoins to get bigger profits. Therefore, it is not surprising that the market cap on bitcoin is always the largest

So, if we are talking about the price, then we have to realize that they are not independent at all, not yet anyway. However, they are doing great blockchain improvements and I support that, they are becoming more independent in the direction they are taking, like how they are moving to proof of stake instead of staying in proof of work.

This is why I believe that there will be some coins, mainly ethereum, that will be more about how we could use it more and more, instead of bitcoin. Maybe the ranking won't change, but the usage rate could change a lot.

Decentralization is the biggest reason. Satoshi created it, helped it grow for a year or two, and then left and he is never to be heard again. How many projects could you say the same? I mean almost all of them have a project team that keeps on working on it.

Look at the top 10 right now, I mean remove the stablecoins because they already are centralized, aside from that BNB has CZ and binance, xrp has Ripple, SOL has a team, ADA has a team, Luna has a team, Avax has a team. All of them have a team. ETH does have a "foundation" and not a team, it is decentralized, but at the same time it still has something instead of nothing compared to bitcoin.

Bitcoin also has a unique story that other altcoins don't have. Bitcoin becomes the most crypto coin to be adopted in almost every country in the world. It is always to be the priority to be adopted. And there are still many other reasons why Bitcoin is superior to altcoins. It makes no altcoin to try replacing Bitcoin till today.

other than because bitcoin was the first. also because people trust bitcoin more. while the altcoins that emerged after bitcoin, even though they are trusted, will still not get more trust than the first.
and still the first is definitely in everyone's mind is embedded that is the foremost. and the ones that later appear will just follow.

So the conclusion is that something new that is born will not be able to surpass that which gave birth. because altcoins were born from the emergence of bitcoin.

unless there is the latest innovation without being tied to bitcoin. and altcoins are still tied to bitcoin because they seem to be just following the trail.

and if you want to replace it then don't follow in the footsteps of bitcoin but he has to make his own trail aka something that didn't exist before. well maybe when it appears. new bitcoin will be replaced and even then if the innovation is better than bitcoin.

These new token has proved that they can't be trusted with lots of successive unfolding events.

Still no Altcoin have same capabilities in bitcoin. I Think, No Altcoin can't replace bitcoin. Bitcoin already proved the token value. Still bitcoin is most popular and most valuable coin.Even Ethereum is most valuable and most promising coin after bitcoin. Bitcoin is a long turm survive coin. But no one said it will not be replaced. It could happen in future.

I think why other alcoins can't replace bitcoin because bitcoin is the king of other alcoins no one can replace the king. alcoin was born because of the creation of bitcoin if bitcoin was not created by satoshi nakamoto maybe alcoin did not exist until now,
Bitcoin will still remain the king among other cryptocurrencies because it has developed a good results in the world which other cryptocurrencies has never develop in the world. It will be difficult for any altcoins to replace bitcoin at this point because bitcoin has more population among other cryptocurrencies which many people believe bitcoin than any other cryptocurrencies in the community.

In this I support it 100%, it is known by moral swimming that BTC is the King, but not because it only represents sentimentality for others, everything has its reason for being, if we start to analyze the behavior and history of BTC, It is more than 10 years old, it has gone through a first system of Accumulation, uptrend, Distribution and again it was in accumulation, leaving aside all the skeptics who bet that the btc was a bubble.

Currently there is no other cryptocurrency that compares to it, it does not exist and if it came out, you should wait for the same process as BTC to go through to see how much of its own life it has, and the truth is very difficult.

There is no alcoin that can be developed like bitcoin and bitcoin is the oldest coin maybe I can conclude that alcoin was born because there was bitcoin if bitcoin was not created by satoshi nakamoto then alcoin does not exist today.

So far crypto has grown and many new altcoins have been born, but they are still behind bitcoin. meaning it can't go beyond bitcoin. bitcoin was born with a symbol of extraordinary technology. Bitcoin's current capabilities have caught the attention of the whole world. Everyone knows bitcoin, and bitcoin is one of the icons of today's crypto.
