Title: Scammers are growing in numbers every day on Twitter, be careful out there
Post by: MetaMii on April 01, 2022, 02:07:58 PM
Beware of any mining offers on Twitter that tells you to connect your metamask for daily reward its all a trap to steal your tokens or assets you store in your wallet, there is no cloud mining or whatsoever mining that will requires you to connect your metamask for daily reward, true mining is only real through the following

Asic Miner, CPU and Graphic cards (GPU).

Well, I'm not really familiar with mining but what these scammers do in trading and the use of social media like Twitter is just the same thing they do. It was indeed quite alarming this time as social media become a medium for huge scams in crypto. Almost every day we heard such stories and people complaining but I think this was also because of our too much love for money.

Yes, definitely we have to be careful. Scammers are so smart, they can manage to trick us if we let them do. That is why we are not goingto believe those attractive words that usually they use to scam people and those who offer high and fast rewards.

although this is no longer new but thanks you for reminding us again...

persuasion like this has actually happened for a long time and usually, they hunt newbies who are new to crypto for the first time. I usually always refuse if someone offers me something with the promise of a big profit because usually, it's a trick.

Newbies are finding easy ways to earn crypto I'm sure some will still fall for this old trick, some people still think that you can earn money or more coins through cloud mining I mean when was the last time that cloud mining really become profitable? Maybe 2016-2017 I guess, when orbot, genesis mining are still up and running, any cloud mining today is a scam, none of them owned any asic farm.

Although I do not have experience with cloud mining, from what I have heard, most cloud mining services are scams. If not all. So, all those scammers lurking on Twitter and other social media are nothing new, they just use new techniques. After all, their target audience is probably inexperienced, naive, and unaware of the risks of investing in such schemes,  so it’s easy to dupe them.

So what can one do to minimize their exposure to scams? Well, you have to be smart, and educate yourself about the risks, but more importantly, be able to spot the telltale signs of a scam.

Cloud mining? Yeah most of them are pretty much scam. I would rather just invest those into holding Bitcoin or even just build my own mining rig. As far as I know, Twitter isn't the only one that people should be wary of these scenarios. Pretty much any social media platform, I would say. In Facebook, there are plenty of spam bot accounts wanting you to do the same thing.

I cannot provide the screenshot as it was taken down already.

Cloud mining is a pyramid scheme in disguise, they use new investors money to settle old investors every day or week, even the old cloud mining websites in crypto space since 2017 are all scam, none of them are above to proof that they own a big plot of land full of mining rigs.

Indeed. Scammers will use anything that can help them to scam people. The use of Twitter isn't new but wondering many were still fall into this kind of trick. This will tell us that many people aren't yet aware of the situation like this and many people are still blind not to see how scam works.

East money, quick rich scheme...many got fooled with such offers from these scammers and those who certainly have greed in their life could easily get fall into their hands.

Not just about going to learn, we need to be more vigilant and think before we decide.

Well, it is pretty common!
There are too many of them not only on Twitter, even on Facebook and Telegram they are waiting that there is someone to be fooled by them offering a high yield return which is cloud mining and we all know that there is a legitimate company when it comes to cloud mining. They even stole the images of other mining companies and claimed that they have mining machines on their own but in fact --they don't have them.
However, thank you for the warning and perhaps newbie users will read this warning.

This is practically alarming especially in twitter there are so many newbie seeking for airdrops or new things to invest so its good that warning should be serve unto them so that they will not bite those traps and take what their hard earn earnings. I guess its time for people to stop believing on mining investment offers or offering something huge for just doing less activities or worse nothing because we know how those things end.

Thank you for the reminder, OP! Given that there are numerous attempts of people scamming others by providing fake links and injected malware on mining data, this puts everyone at risk whenever they see links such as this one.

Unfortunately, there are also dozens of fake and scam wallet links in this forum being shared by new accounts in hopes of just scamming at least a person. Personally, I have reported tens to hundreds of malware links and these scammers are just persistent on being a nuisance.

I hope this post reaches to everyone who encounters free giveaways on random sites. Remember, nothing is free and there is 99% chance that they will just scam and get your funds in your wallet.

Just reject any offer on Twitter, Facebook, Telegram, and other social media and you're safer, especially when the offers come with a reward, ROI, freebies, and others. They're simply baits.  Reject them even if they are coming from Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos and Barack Obama and Donald Trump and others. Reject them even if they are coming from accounts with blue verified badge. Work your ass off! Don't chase the easy money.

Scammers are in two main categories
  • Old members with high followers but such accounts used for advertisement, shilling services. The owners behind such ones don't mind what projects they are advertising for.
  • New members. Some tips to detect newbie scammers
      • No avatar
      • Twitter username are mostly non-sense and end with random number series
      • Very low followers
      • Past tweets are very little in number and have very low quality
      • Ask for money, access to private keys/ mnemonic seeds, etc. They mostly aim at things related to money

I would suggest banning all social networks not only for adults, but starting from childhood. No matter how popular it may be, but experience shows that social networks are becoming not useful, but harmful. This is a hotbed of fraud, where people play on the trust of the inexperienced. If we turn to statistics, the damage from social networks today is more than good.
Simply, if you are a fan of walking on all sorts of networks, start developing a lot of skepticism in yourself. No one will ever tell you how to get rich. Any offers should be taken with a grain of salt, only in this way you will not feel like a deceived idiot.

It seems crypto users have been mostly targeted by scammers because of their anonymity. Every time I comment on a crypto-related project tons of DM has been sent to me with a link. Same things happen when using telegram. I really doubt people still fall for this method because it's become a very old method for scammers. They should try something different and innovative now. Or those thieves are just out of ideas!!! >:(

The most important thing is that we can always be careful in looking for information because technology development will open a gap for scammers to keep trying to deceive people in various ways.
If we read something suspicious and unusual, we don't have to go ahead and leave it immediately so they won't trick us.
There may still be various ways they will use because the number of people who are new to crypto will continue to grow so this can become a target for scammers.
And don't be tempted to join an event or promotion if you don't have detailed info about it so scammers won't fool you.

There are so many different types of scams out there, that if we start jotting them all down then it might become a book and then someone can list that book on Amazon. We have discussed about different scams on this board and one thing that is common about all of them is that scammers are always looking out for greedy people who want to get rich quickly. To all newbies remember that nothing is free and earning money is not that easy as it looks through the internet.

It's no longer new but someone I knew was scammed this way, it was how I was able to know such a thing existed today on Twitter, I haven't heard about any cloud mining since 2018 because the bear market wiped them all out.

To be honest I'm not familiar with mining but thanks for reminding us beforehand about this. There are many types and modes of scammers in the crypto world, that's why we have to be careful and alert to them. nowadays even scammers can be smarter than us, not only on twitter, scammers roam everywhere with various modes to deceive their victims. To avoid scams like this I will usually research and understand for sure so that I will not be easily tempted by the attractive offers provided. remember that anything can not be obtained easily, it takes hard work and strong effort. So from that, if there is an offer about getting profit easily, then you need to research it further.

There are too many ways scammers carry out their operations this day, I still can't explain how I lost 100$ worth of tokens on my old wallet that I created back in 2017, it was the first and I used it for airdrops a lot too, I dont know how I ended up leaking my recovery seed till date.

Scammers are everywhere and most of them are using social media to trick people, am not really the type that believes in minning which I will receive message on social media like Twitter or Telegram, which they will send a link and you will be asked to connect your wallet, whenever am asked to connect my wallet, I always make sure the website is from a legit source because after connecting your wallet its very easy to move your funds.

Don't do any stupid thing when there's someone sending a link through a private message on any of your social media accounts.  Verify and have DYOR always so that you can avoid these possible problems.  I used telegram and I have encountered there the same problem with the OP, I always got a private message but I never open it if there is a link sent from an unknown source.

This is very common in cloud mining which is offer you a good return, but I think people have learned and didn't fool with this which is very common back in 2017.

Lots of people are still falling victim for the scam, this happen mostly on Telegram, whenever you make a complain in a public group, scammers will start changing their names to admin and claiming to be a customer support which they will ask for some of your details and they will send you link which some will ask you to connect your wallet and some will ask you to input your details, the best thing is that you don't even open the link and then you should just report and block the scammer.

I don't like people, this is why I will never give any strangers attention through Twitter, Facebook or Telegram, people don't have your best interest at heart their attention is always aiming for something they can derive from you easily or by force, im not saying that I can't get scammed but it won't be through fake links or fake mails, still we all gotta be careful.

It’s not just in Twitter alone, but popular platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, etc. These scammers don’t care which platform are they targeting as long they can victimize and deceive the user by making them fall into their trap. And the scary thing is that the scammers are now more intelligent than ever. You know why? If their methods don’t work, they will try to create new strategies over and over again for the sake of scamming people. I have encountered that a lot, but they can’t penetrate my mind that easily.

Twitter, Facebook, telegram...Sad to say that social media now is already a den of scammers. We can deal with these scammers by simply ignoring them and spending no time talking/chatting with them. They will certainly be sending links as one of their strategies and once got fall into their tricks, we're done.
That is why we should be cautious in clickings links especially if this is coming from an unknown person or stranger, this is most likely a trap that makes us regrets it.

Thanks for the notification. Luckily, I've never gotten any offers for mining via Twitter so this could be good advice for newbies out there to be careful about linking their Metamasks. If they want to mine, it's better to use a graphics card or with ASIC or even a CPU, but that will depend on how much mining speed they have. The scammers will always try to look for their new target from social media, which makes us really cautious about their offers and always double-check the information.
