How long have you been using the Coingate.com site and have you checked any good exchanges on this forum, before using Coingate.com.

If I'm not mistaken there are several accusations against the Coingate.com site on this forum.
For example:
• Topic: [CLOSED]CoinGate.com discount codes up to 50%on giftcards for Amazon+many more. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5303202.0)
• Topic: coingate.com is a scam never use them (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4492476.0)

In the future, try to choose an exchange that is trusted on this forum, for your safety and don't hesitate to ask in the forum if you don't know their reputation.

He claims they have been using the platform since 2017

(For your  information, we have used Coingate.com since 2017, without an issue however now it's an issue. Taken this long to pay out and everyday having a new excuses is a sign of a company going bust)

I still have no idea why he preferred coingate to other platforms. Maybe because of the giftcards?

What's the accusation against coingate on that topic? It's a user who was trying to sell his discount code of some cards, don't know how legit it is but how could you accuse coingate of being a scam based on that topic?

Hello everybody,

As may are familiar with Coingate.com they are now turned into a scam. Coingate.com  haven't paid us in a week and they keep saying is processed, and that a SEPA transfer takes up to 5 days. However everybody know that a EU SEPA transfer takes only 1 work day. Normally we receive our payouts the next day however now over a week later and Coingate.com  keep saying it is already processed.

Without at least a screenshot of your conversations with support, some from your account, or anything else that is not resized to 10x10 pixels or any other sort of proof this is just a baseless accusation. Not saying that coingate is legit as I haven't used them ever but at the moment there isn't any reason to trust you either.

Am not well conversant with crypto payment service providers but from the different posts I have read in the past, but BTCPay server seems popular

Check out these lists. I am sure you will find what you are looking for;

It is strange, but I checked the first 5 pages of negative reviews (1 Star feedback) on trustpilot[1], and only you encountered this problem, certainly as you mentioned, the problem is not from SEPA, and since no one else complained, it is likely that the platform is related to Coingate.
Coingate.com has a good track record and therefore it is difficult to consider them scammers but the recurrence of these incidents is a clear negative sign.

you can try BTCPay Server[2] or Coinbase Commerce[3]
